25.01.2022 Meet Layna . We couldnt resist sharing this ultra adorable photo of this little cutie soaking up the love. Layna spent two weeks in the Special Care Nursery at Gold Coast Private Maternity before heading home and were thrilled to hear shes doing incredibly well. Bree Winchester Photography

25.01.2022 Shes famous again! Our Maternity Manager Judy Ross was approached for this story on how new Mums are coping through Covid-19. The article also features new Gold Coast Private Maternity Mum Shardae Read and a photo of our lovely midwife Chelsea Griffin. The Source News reported: Gold Coast Private Hospital maternity manager Judy Ross said mothers were extremely stressed about contracting COVID-19 when lockdown laws were initially introduced.... We would ring them from 32 weeks to just check in and reassure them that we are here, Ms Ross said. I think in some ways, I felt a little bit sad for them. It is a very happy joyful time, and exciting, especially being able to show your new baby to your sisters, parents and in-laws. I think that excitement was taken away for a lot of them, which is quite sad. You can read the article in full here - https://thesourcenews.com//covid-19-leaves-new-mums-feeli/ Hang in there Mums and Mums-to-be. We know its tough. We are here for you and well all get through it

25.01.2022 Time to pack your hospital bag and don't know where to start? We're calling on all our beautiful mums to let us know what items they couldn't live without or anything they wish they'd remembered to pack for their hospital stay! Tell us below... #gcpmaternity #goldcoastprivatehospital #goldcoastprivatematernity

25.01.2022 A Christmas Eve message from Gold Coast Private Hospital's General Manager Kimberly Pierce: "At this time of year, we inevitably reflect on the year that was and look forward to what’s to come. Although our position here in Queensland has meant that we have managed to keep the COVID-19 pandemic relatively at bay, it has undoubtedly been a busy year for us all. Some of us have been affected more than others, particularly with the border closures and my thoughts go out to thos...e families who are now isolated from their loved ones, most recently those from Greater Sydney. "What pleases me most as the General Manager of Gold Coast Private is the enthusiasm and willingness that you show daily - no matter what challenge is thrown your way. Our recent The Smith Family toy appeal, for which many of you gave up your secret Santa traditions to give to those in need, was another indication of the spirit and compassion this family-oriented organisation possesses. "For those of you who have time off this time of year, I’m sure it will be a welcome break and certainly well deserved. For those that will be working over the festive period to care for our patients and support the running of our hospital, I thank you for continuing to maintain Gold Coast Private’s high standard of care. There is a complimentary festive lunch being held in the main staff dining room on Christmas Day, which I hope that you’ll enjoy. "I hope that you have a safe and happy festive season and wish you a bright and prosperous 2021. If you are working over Christmas, I hope that you have planned to take some leave at some point in the New Year to refresh for our exciting plans for 2021. "I will continue to work during regular business hours over the Christmas break should you need anything and I look forward to popping in on Christmas day to wish you all a very merry Christmas."

24.01.2022 "Being able to make a difference to women through the joyful times and tough times is a privilege," says Gold Coast Private Maternity Midwife Amanda Myers. After starting a degree in law and international studies, Amanda took a wild stab in the dark and picked midwifery as something completely different and shes never looked back. "I love so many things about being a midwife. Being "with woman" (which is the definition of midwife), as she enters her new role as a mother is... so special." Amanda continues to grow and develop in her role - last year completing the Prescribing for Midwives course through Griffith University to become a Medicare-endorsed midwife; and this year she has taken on the role of Maternity Educator which she says brings a new challenge and interesting new perspective to her career. "Gold Coast Private is a wonderful place to work. In Maternity, we have the best team, we are all mates and we support each other, celebrate our successes and provide the finest maternity care on the Gold Coast. Im so proud to be part of Gold Coast Private Maternity." And were proud to call her our midwife. Thank you for your dedication, laughter and sense of fun. Youre an asset to our team Amanda #YearoftheNurseandMidwife

24.01.2022 Only two more sleeps before these merry mischief makers return to their North Pole homes (and parents can switch off that 9pm nightly alarm )! Have you had an Elf on the Shelf wreaking havoc in your home this year? Share pics of their most memorable moments below!

24.01.2022 Were so excited to be welcoming visitors back (particularly those oh-so-adorable big siblings) and have been receiving a few additional questions about our updated Maternity Care Centre visitor policy. If you are planning to have visitors stop by to meet your newborn, please bear in mind: There is no limit to the number of visitors you can have, however, social distancing rules apply Most of our rooms fit four to five people, including the patient, with social distancing... rules in mind Consider inviting visitors to come at different times - for example, have one set of grandparents come at the start of visiting hours and the other towards the end (visiting hours are strictly 2pm-6pm) If big siblings are coming to visit, they will need to stay in the room at all times All visitors must also be well, free of any cold-like symptoms or fever and not had, or been in contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with, COVID-19. We thank everyone for their cooperation at this time, as we ensure the health and safety of our patients, including those extra special little bubs! However, when it comes to baby wearing, there are some things to keep in mind. Our latest blog, 'Tips and tricks for baby wearing', is a great guide on how you can enjoy all the benefits of the carrier while keeping your bundle of joy safe and secure. https://gcpmaternity.com.au/tips-and-tricks-for-baby-weari/

21.01.2022 We get constant requests for the recipe to our famous lactation cookies so we thought wed share it again - particularly as its timely for National Breastfeeding Week! As the story goes - Gold Coast Privates Executive Chef, John OShea, made these cookies to help one of our new Mums that was having trouble getting her milk in. As John handed them over to the midwives he said with a grin, hopefully these bad boys will do the trick . Thanks John! Ingredients:... 50g linseed meal 80g water 3tsp brewers yeast 180g cubed butter 280g brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla bean paste 260g plain flour 2 eggs 300g rolled oats 250g chocolate chips 100g chopped almonds Method: Combine linseed meal and water together in blender and set to the side. Place yeast, butter, sugar and vanilla in food processor and mix together. Add flour, eggs and linseed mixture to processor and mix together. Scrape mixture into a large bowl and add remaining ingredients. Fold together with hands and spoon onto baking trays. Slightly flatten with the back of the spoon and place in oven for 15 minutes at 180 degrees. #WBW2020 #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #GCPMaternity #BornAtGoldCoastPrivate

20.01.2022 Ezekiel certainly looks happy in his baby seat...but choosing which brand and style of car seat can be a daunting task. 20.01.2022 As exciting as it is, pregnancy can sometimes feel like you’re in a never-ending loop of tests, scans, appointments and needles. We've put together an overview of what's offered in each trimester to help make it easier for you. It’s always a good idea to talk to your care provider about your options in-depth so you can make the most informed decisions on what is best for you and your baby. 20.01.2022 I am constantly amazed by the fact we can grow another human being, says Gold Coast Private Hospital obstetrician, Dr Genevieve Bishop. Supporting women and ...their partners throughout the pregnancy journey, and being able to create a birth plan that is suited to them is my passion. I am focused not only on the delivery, but providing holistic care pre- and post-delivery, in what can be an exciting but overwhelming time. Dr Bishop recently joined Gold Coast Private and says she is loving being part of the team. The midwives, staff and other doctors have welcomed me and my team with open arms. It is so lovely to be in a new hospital with amazing facilities and, as equally important, a warm and friendly feeling, she says. As a believer in a holistic approach to medicine, Dr Bishop says she works with a community of health professionals and staff to surround and support patients to manage their health from every angle. In pregnancy, I believe it is not just about the birth. We need to support women during all phases of their journey. Antenatal education is vital but, most importantly, we need to realise a lot of the hard work starts once the baby is born and this is when women can need more support postnatally. To organise an appointment with Dr Bishop, please call (07) 5598 0418 or email [email protected].

17.01.2022 Welcoming a new baby into the family is an experience every member of the family never forgets and its a privilege to share that experience with my patients," says Midwife Chelsea Griffin. Having always dreamed of a career where she could help people, Chelsea found a passion for midwifery during a placement in a Brisbane maternity ward. I love people so I knew I wanted a career that was very people orientated. It was always a toss-up between the police force and nursing bu...t when crunch time came nursing won. Chelsea says getting to watch families grow is one of her favourite parts of the job. As a mother of three boys myself I know how special holding your baby is and its a beautiful moment seeing parents and siblings hold their newest family member for the first time." Recognised for her bubbly personality and booming voice, she says she tries to lead by example. At Gold Coast Private, everyone is treated like family. The executive team is just as approachable as your unit manager and there is no discrimination for what job you perform, you are just family." Were thrilled youre part of our family, Chelsea. Thank you :) #YearOfTheNurseandMidwife

16.01.2022 One of the most common questions we get asked is should Mums-to-be get the flu jab. We spoke to Grace Private Obstetrician and Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr Adriana Olog to get the answer. You can find it on our blog: https://goldcoastprivatehospital.com.au//im-pregnant-shoul

10.01.2022 It's important to check in with your emotional health throughout all stages of life, however it is even more vital during pregnancy and early parenthood when parents may be more susceptible to stress. To mark PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia) Week, we're sharing tips and information for maintaining emotional health during pregnancy, and we'd love to hear from you about what strategies you find helpful. Remember - you are not alone, and there is always someone ...you can talk to when you are feeling overwhelmed: your partner, family, friends, healthcare professional, mental health specialist or free services (listed via this link). #pandaweek2020 #tellsomeonewhocares

10.01.2022 We love helping new parents capture all the special moments during their stay with us. Our photo wall is just one way to remember the important details, from bubs time of birth to their length and weight (trust us, in those whirlwind first days you will find yourself looking back at this ). We love this adorable photo of little Leo enjoying his moment in the spotlight!

10.01.2022 Breastfeeding can be a hard and lonely journey for some women, so we think sometimes it's nice to hear a story of when the struggle and perseverance paid off - like it did for baby Daisy and her Mum Rhiannon. They are celebrating a six-month breastfeeding milestone - one they weren't sure they'd reach. Rhiannon says it's a monumental achievement, given Daisy's allergies and other hurdles. "I truly believe one of the main reasons we were able to do this was the ongoing suppor...t and expertise of the brilliant midwives at Gold Coast Private. Even after we were discharged they were always there to answer questions, check her latch and offer valuable guidance," says Rhiannon. If breastfeeding hasn't come as naturally to you as it does to some, please remember we are here to help, any time. It can be challenging but it's important to remember - you are not alone. Call us on 07 5530 0726. Daisy McCarthy

10.01.2022 If youre looking for an antenatal class you can take anytime you like (in ugg boots and pyjamas ), this one is for you! You can access our online antenatal education library from the comfort of your home, via https://goldcoastprivatehospital.com.au/int/antenatal-class We suggest watching the Express Antenatal Class - which was filmed at Gold Coast Private Maternity with our midwife, Nikki - with your birth partner.... To view the class, contact the maternity ward on 5530 0726 to verify youre a patient and well provide the password. Make sure to write down any questions you have and send them through to our midwives to answer. Were always here to help!

09.01.2022 When Lucy met teddy. Were not sure it was love at first sight, but we know these two will enjoy many a comforting cuddle for many years to come. These teddies are part of the experience at Gold Coast Private Maternity and we hope they help create many special memories for our families.

09.01.2022 As we move into the colder months, it's important that you dress your little bundle correctly, making sure they're kept warm, but won't overheat. Confused? Here's a few handy tips: Dress your bub in layers. This way you can take layers off when you're at the shops or at other warm places. As a general guide, dress your baby in the same number of layers you’re wearing, plus one extra layer for warmth.... Babies can lose a lot of heat through their heads, so it can be a good idea to put a hat on their head when going outside. Babies also regulate their temperature with their head, so make sure you remove the hat when inside.

08.01.2022 Is there anything cuter than a swaddled up baby burrito?! Aside from the cute factor, swaddling has a number of great benefits for babies. The age-old technique helps to mimic life in the womb, with babies feeling safe, comforted and secure when they're all wrapped up. It also helps with your baby’s natural startle reflex, which can mean better sleep (for both of you!). We'd love to see your swaddles, share below!

06.01.2022 Say CHEESE! Big siblings dont come much prouder than Flynn, who looks pretty chuffed to be helping give his new little sister, Erin, a feed. Share your special sibling moments in the comments below!

06.01.2022 From all of the team at Gold Coast Private Maternity, we want to wish you a fun, safe and Merry Christmas. If there are any Christmas Day babies born, we'd love to hear from you! Share your pics below!

06.01.2022 Two special deliveries in one photo! The Gold Coast Private Maternity team was so grateful to receive this gorgeous box of personalised goodies from baby Adaline. What a thoughtful surprise

06.01.2022 We'd like to say a BIG congratulations to Gold Coast Private Maternity Manager, Judy Ross, who just this week graduated her Masters of Clinical Nursery in Special Care with Honours from the University of Tasmania. Well done Judy! What an amazing achievement.

06.01.2022 Those winter morning feels. If only we could all look as stylish rugging up as little London, born at Gold Coast Private Maternity on 8 May.

05.01.2022 While we like to keep bubs cooking until full term, sometimes they're just a little too eager to see the world! In such cases, Gold Coast Private Maternity is there to support, with nine Special Care Cots for premature babies 32 weeks and over, plus a team of highly specialised nursing staff at the ready to provide paediatric support. We understand this can be a tough time for mothers, which is why they're given the opportunity to be with their baby 24 hours a day and are as...sisted with skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding and expressing. #goldcoastprivatematernitycare #privatehealthcare #privatematernityservices

05.01.2022 Looks like we've got little elves arriving at Gold Coast Private Maternity this Christmas, thanks to the creative crocheting of our crafty midwife Jane Knox (pictured). Jane starts crocheting in August to be ready in time to outfit every new baby in the ward with a handmade creation come Christmas Day - and has done so for the last four years. Parents love them, I have been there since the hospital first opened and really it is just a nice thing to do.

Dont you just want to squeeze that gorgeous face!

03.01.2022 Every Mum has a story. For Jade, the journey to motherhood wasnt always an easy one. We thought wed share the announcement she waited so long to make... "The wait is finally over, our miracle has arrived! ITS A BOY, HE IS HERE!! The anticipation of not knowing if you were going to be a boy or girl has been fun and exciting!... WELCOME TO THE WORLD ROCCO. 20 January 2020, at 7:32am, weighing 8 pound 2. After 3.5 years, several miscarriages, seizures, juggling my MS and two rounds of IVF (with no fertilised embryos in storage, you were the only surviving one) Finally, we are now a family. I have wanted you for as long as I can remember." Congratulations Jade. We know baby Rocco is worth all the struggles and heartache.

03.01.2022 There are some elements of childbirth that movie producers have decided aren't nice enough for the big screenvernix is one of those things. A waxy white coating, the vernix caseosa plays an important role in the health of your baby. So, should you wash it off or rub it in? Check out our latest blog to find out more about this amazing and natural part of childbirth. https://gcpmaternity.com.au/vernix-wash-it-off-or-rub-it-in/

02.01.2022 We love welcoming visitors almost as much as we love welcoming babies and were happy to say the Government has given the green light to lift SOME visitor restrictions. Unfortunately, siblings will still not be able to visit, unless they are over 16. See the updated policy below... UPDATE ON OUR VISITOR POLICY In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, strict visitor restrictions had been put into place.... However, given the success of measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Government believes that it is safe enough for us to relax some requirements. The new visitor rules are: No limit to the number of visitors however they must be 16 years or older (unless they are a patient) Visitors must not have travelled interstate or overseas in the past 14 days Visitors must not be unwell Visitors must pass Gold Coast Privates compulsory screening Visitors must adhere to physical distancing rules of 1.5 metres Visiting hours are strictly between 2pm and 6pm daily. Anyone entering the hospital will undergo a compulsory temperature check. For anyone who doesnt meet the above criteria, we suggest you instead call your loved-one via the hospital switchboard (07) 55 300 300 or direct room number. We understand that these circumstances may not be ideal and sympathise with any disappointment. As a healthcare facility it is our duty to implement the latest health advice in order to keep our patients and the community as safe as possible. Thank you for your support in helping to keep our hospital as safe as possible.

02.01.2022 Breaking news: Big siblings are back in a big way! Effective immediately, we are thrilled to be able to update our Maternity Care Centre visitor policy to allow children into the ward.
