21.01.2022 Life today is full of stress. Too many problems, too much to do and not enough time. This is not what our minds or bodies were designed to cope with. For many people this high stress environment can lead to chronic fatigue and breakdown. How can you fight back? Can you better understand how your body reacts to stress? Check your tension frequently and determine if you are stressed. As time passes each day stressful events will occur. Are you still reacting to some of those ev...ents hours, or even days after they occurred? This leads to chronic stress, and this can cause a great deal of harm. The mechanism we all have to deal with stressful events (threats) is called the autonomic nervous system, and it works the same today as it did 400 million years ago. Chronic levels of stress prevent the body from relaxing. Your body is designed to function best when you are relaxed. Your autonomic nervous system (ANS) is activated whenever you face a stressful situation. This means that you take in more oxygen to feed your muscles so that they can prepare to fight or flee from the stressor. Blood flow to your muscles increases while blood to your brain decreases. The increased blood flow to your muscles causes them to tense which leads to pain and discomfort. Reduced blood flow to your brain inhibits your capacity to think. You may have noticed that when people are aroused (angry, excited) they don't think well. They are prone to saying things they don't believe and doing things they would not normally do (shouting, hitting etc) Chronic activation of the ANS will generally lead to a breakdown in healthy functioning. You can learn to control your ANS response. Talk with a registered psychologist at Solve Your stress

21.01.2022 Choose Success!!!!! Most people think success in life occurs by accident or just plain luck. Do you know the expression, "The harder I work the luckier I get!" Success usually entails a great deal of thinking, planning and hard work. However to plan at all means having a goal in mind. In fact, not just an ultimate goal but a whole series of intermediate steps. Climbing a ladder means starting at the bottom and ascending one step at a time. The most important thing you can din... in life is to define your goals and work out what steps you must take to get there. Before you can do that you must define where you are at this point in time. Evaluate your personal assets and weaknesses. Ask a friend to comment on your problem areas. Most obstacles can be overcome with effort and persistence. Look for training courses that could improve your undeveloped areas. If you need to understand figures do an accounting course. It is not necessary to excel in it but you must understand the principles See more

16.01.2022 We hear a lot about stress, people complaining about being stressed. They might talk about a stressful day at work or an incident that they found to be very stressful. How do you understand stress? Response 1. A few things we know about stress. 1. Engineering, pressure on a system, 2. when things go wrong, don’t know how to respond/fix/deal with.... 3. cumulative, We can solve our stress but we need to have clear in our minds what we mean. For example, our stress is nor what is happening to us, its how we are responding to what is happening. Each person’s capacity to manage stressful events is limited, and when a person reaches their limit they start to break down. If we don’t recognize what is stressing us we will be unable to take the appropriate steps to take the pressure off. A stressful day at work might be one that involved some sort of conflict or threat (stressful events. If there are too many of these events for a particular individual, a diminished capacity to cope can result. Breakdown. There are two ways to deal with the impact of stressful events, assuming of course that we can recognize them as stressful. Firstly we can limit our exposure to further stressful events and secondly we can increase our control of our responses to further stressful events. I can teach people this.

15.01.2022 How is it that stress makes us feel bad or uncomfortable? Why is it important to know this? Response 2: This is such an important point. The mechanism within all of us that causes us to feel fear is the same one that enables us to feel euphoria (great happiness). Why do people continue to line up to ride the Tower of Terror? Why do some people choose to jump out of aircraft when they are thousands of feet up in the air? Parachutists have been studied to gain a better unders...tanding of their behaviour. It was discovered that, physiologically, their responses were the same as if they were facing a great threat such as impending doom. The difference was in how they were interpreting their physiological responses. Stress that we enjoy is known as eustress but it still has an impact on our capacity to cope with stressful events. If you hear that the boss wants to see you in his/her office you may interpret this to indicate that you are in trouble and this is likely to cause you to feel bad or uncomfortable. On the other hand you might be expecting a raise or a promotion and become excited about that. Physiologically the same things are happening to your body but they are being interpreted differently. 12.01.2022 Easter. like many holidays may be a joyful time for many. Chances are though, that there will also be a certain amount of stress that will creep into your life as well. Some polls show that almost 90% of people in Western Society feel some kind of anxiety or stress about the holidays. The shopping, out of control discretionary spending, cooking, visiting and holiday entertaining at home can all add up and cause tremendous pressure on both adults and children. When did things get so out of hand?

11.01.2022 Thinking Errors............. Emotions like fear, anger, guilt and anxiety usually arise from "wonkey thinking". Holding on to beliefs that are negative or not rational. Such beliefs form rigid rules, or "shoulds" and reside in our minds. Negative beliefs can make us feel bad which in turn can influence us to behave in self-defeating ways. Wonkey thinking represents fixed patterns of thinking that give rise to unnecessary distress. These patterns include, "catastrophising, ri...gidity, making it personal, jumping to conclusions and clairvoyance. To be more psychologically healthy we need to "think" healthy thoughts. If we feel emotionally disturbed it will be because of what we are thinking. Because of that it is important that we keep a monitor on our thoughts.

10.01.2022 In my Private Practice I help a lot of people to better manage their stress. There are various ways I can do this obviously, depending on each individual’s circumstances. One source of stress that I find very common relates to the work that people do. Their occupation, vocation or even avocation can play a significant part in where we derive our life satisfaction. Many people are in jobs they didn’t really choose. After all, a job’s a job, right? One university statistic I a...lways found interesting was that over 80% of first year university students change their degree structure. Also, many graduates, and this includes the trades, choose not to utilize their training and do something else instead. It could be argued that the most productive people are those who are doing what they want to do, or like doing. It could also be argued that they are the happiest. See more

07.01.2022 Change in our lives is often a good thing, but that does not necessarily mean that it is easy. Adjusting from the freedom of the Christmas vacation back to rules, homework and routines associated with the return to school can be a big jump for parents and children alike. But with a little prior preparation and planning, and the right attitude, you can make a good start

05.01.2022 Stressful Eating Stress Awareness. It is common among friends and relatives to recognize that their loved ones are suffering from stress. It is not always so obvious to the one actually suffering. Consider the various ways that ways that stress can manifest itself in our daily lives. It is only by being aware of the stress that we can attempt to find solutions. One of the most common behaviors many of us use are coping mechanisms, such as overeating, smoking or drinking when ...we feel stressed. Emotional eating and even binging is not only unhealthy, this type of eating robs us of the joy of appreciating and savoring our food. Eating properly is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves to feel good and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Using Mindfulness Meditation has been found to help us slow down and enjoy our meal, and even a few studies mentioned here, suggest it is potentially beneficial to reduce binge eating and emotional eating. When we are mindful, we can also use our mealtime to focus our minds, making us aware of the present moment, without judgment, and simply understand how alive we feel when we experience our physical senses fully.

04.01.2022 Occupational diversity has increased and career decision making has moved beyond the skills and knowledge of the family networks. Full employment is no longer a normal expectation, and many comment that the notion of a single job or even a single career, in a lifetime is not realistic. School leavers of today can expect between five to seven career changes in their working life. Without the notion of lifelong learning, individuals are likely to have some difficulty keeping up with the pace of changes taking place in the world of work. They need to know how to learn and they need to take responsibility for their own learning throughout their lives.
