23.01.2022 Piper in full stride today, finishing 3rd in the u12’s 2km. Another strong race on a hilly course, this weeks race testing her ability to back up after winning her school cross country on Friday. In fine form and ready for her first state event next week. Can’t wait!!! @impisportswear ... #GCRAtrained #racefit #crosscountry

23.01.2022 Post race fuelling Congrats to Matilda on finishing 6th female overall in the SEQ Trail Running Series in Pomona this morning. She took on the the 7.1km event in typical Tillly style - smiling from ear to ear and picked up 2nd place in the 19’s & u category (no she is not even close to that age). ... I’m so grateful for her wonderful, supportive and definitely leading by example parents for helping develop and maintaining her love of running. While she loves her trails I can’t wait to see what she can bring to the athletics track at Regional A’s in a couple of weeks time.

22.01.2022 Across the road to the Roller coasters for our Wed arvo crew. All about strength, power & arm activation as we attacked the hills. Top effort all

20.01.2022 Anyone wanting to still enter State Cross Country in Ipswich on Sat Sept 5th, must be nominated by 9am this Friday - ages 7yrs and up.

19.01.2022 Salk was the place to be this morning Great turnout put through their paces over some longer reps (300m & 200m) and finished off with some 100m/50’s - finding form, speed and reaction on tired legs.

19.01.2022 Monday Endurance Standout session from Maddie & Marlie, and an extra special mention for Asha’s sprint finishes on all.

19.01.2022 One to place in the calendar - local event.

18.01.2022 Waddled down the road to the Duck Pond , where we moved into a quacking pace Usual standouts upfront, but special mentions to Reid, Cooper & Lucy who come through with some impressive runs over the 800m loop.

14.01.2022 Wednesday Arvo Crew working hard through a Fartlek session

14.01.2022 Rushed first session back, but we beat the storm Regaining fitness will be number one priority for most of our crew over the coming weeks. However our smiling assassin Matilda has shown some long runs over the break have her fitter than ever

14.01.2022 Working down from 1.8km 200m... Together these guys were definitely all stronger this morning and worked hard to maintain form as they tired. All looking ready for your next cross country event.

14.01.2022 We’ve just come off an impressive week of training by so many. As we transition back into school life it’s important to establish a good routine quickly so that each and everyone of our runners can get the most out of their training. To reap the benefits of GCRA training for our more advanced runners - 2 days a week is recommended from here forward and those heading onto State/Nationals will be allocated additional sessions as we get closer to major events. Those cross train...ing for other sports, consistency is key to improvement, so I recommend locking in at least once a week. Running is the foundation for so many sports and training under a qualified Australian Athletics coach will ensure efficient and effective running is established. Please note session change for this week starting Mon 25th Jan - Wed AM to Fri AM. Yours in Running Coach Mel

14.01.2022 Shoutout to Indi also yesterday , taking 2nd place in the 10 girls at the Hinterland District Cross Country and therefore moving through to Regionals. We know she can run and she bought her A game to training this morning with goals fresh in her mind. Proud of you girl , tho I must say I’m not surprised.

13.01.2022 Some impressive running from our Wed afternoon crew.... Solid efforts from Cotter, Ben Emily & Mason. One more Wed afternoon session for the year before we finish up.... I will continue to remind all of finishing dates and starting times for 2021 over the coming weeks.

12.01.2022 Down to the duck pond for a change of scenery..... Great to see so many of our youngstars working hard and enjoying themselves.

12.01.2022 ‘They have a runners body’ one of my most cringed at lines. Things I will never support for young runners (under 16) daily/weekly weigh ins... food diaries skinfolds restricting food groups talking weight gain/loss We all develop differently and if you take a look at elite runners, they come in all shapes and sizes. A healthy fuelled body equals a strong body - one that will go far, with minimal breakdowns. This is a great video to watch. Thanks Tracey for the FB share.

12.01.2022 No school holiday sleep ins for our Wednesday morning crew.

12.01.2022 Miss Maddie was entered and excited for all the cross country races in Brissie - but unfortunately as a NSW resident the border bubble had other plans. So happy she got a chance to have a race Top Work Mads! Repost @maddy_mcpherson09 with @get_repost... 3km #flirtwithdirt race. Time of 12:12 landed me 3rd overall female and 2nd in my age group. With these border restrictions this is one of the only races I can get too - thank you for organising it @wildearthflirtwithdirt See more

10.01.2022 A massive happy Father’s Day to all of our wonderful GCRA dads. We couldn’t do it without you. A special mention to Cam today (our unofficial assistant coach) who spent his Father’s Day morning winning the Open Division of the Bribie Triathlon - 750m Swim, 20km Cycle , 5km run. Never to be upstaged by his kids and their achievements, he absolutely smoked the final 5km run leg in a blistering time of 17min 16sec bringing home the fastest time of the day. (M...aybe should of done state cross country - just saying ) Congrats mate! See more

10.01.2022 FYI.... On our return I will be looking to run some Holiday sessions on the sand, to cater for our nipper crew but to also enjoy the summer vibe the beach brings. Until we break up stay committed to your training

10.01.2022 Speed at Salk Special mentions to Kaden and Zac who held form & stayed strong for the whole main set.

10.01.2022 Four groups, four different distances - five times. Today’s standouts - Hamish, Eadie, Orlando, Jade, Cam, Aspen & Hunter @ Tugun, Queensland, Australia

08.01.2022 Determined to be a force on the track, sand or on the footy field. Our middle distance group were switched on , our sprinters needed a little rev up. As I always tell them, you need to bring the effort and the attitude cause I can’t physically turn their legs for them or make them accept the challenges around them.... My job is to set the program, guide them through it, analyse and correct technique and provide a positive experiences...their challenge is to get out of the comfort zone. Can sound intense to some for ones so young, but if I can tap in mentally with them I will achieve so much more out of them each and every session.

08.01.2022 It was fantastic to catch up with our friends at @impisportswear today and a big thankyou to our girls involved in their photo shoot at Currumbin Beach. Be sure to check out their gear online if you weren’t around today.

08.01.2022 Belonging.....being part of a supportive group, the essence of what it’s all about for our kids/youth in sport. Touched to see for this little pocket rocket that GCRA is part of her supportive network. Coaching is way more than just teaching them the fundamentals of running and our squad is all responsible for this supportive environment created. Truly stronger together crew. ... #strongertogether #supportteam #runningsquads #makeadifference

08.01.2022 First Spring Session and Salk turned on the Sauna Once our main set was complete we made shapes over the wickets. It was great to welcome some new faces in and see others return.

07.01.2022 It’s not meant to be easy..... Making diamonds Across the board Strong ... Standouts for me G1 - Jai & Savannah G2 - Summer & Addis G3 - Eadie Happy Coach

07.01.2022 Out n Backs Monday arvo Loved the speed they found at the end and special mentions to Finn & Zedd - putting in a solid session from start to finish.

04.01.2022 Piper Anderson has taken the bronze medal at the @qldathletics State Cross Country in the 10yrs Girls race. A tough race mixed in with the boys saw the front group of three girls battling for their spot. Piper following in the footsteps of older sister Aspen, has taken to racing for the first time this year and is proving to be one extremely talented runner. Beyond proud Pipe’s knew you’d be in the medals tho with the way you train and the times you are achieving. #trulyearned

02.01.2022 For the past four years GCRA has continued to deliver quality affordable running sessions to many young Gold Coast athletes. GCRA is more than just a running squad with the majority of our athletes utilising our sessions to gain speed, agility, stamina and running confidence for so many other sports...think AFL, Soccer, Touch, Netball, Triathlons, Aquathlon and Nippers. While sessions can be challenging, Athletics Australia Qualified coach Melanie Black offers a supportive ...environment to ensure development is achieved both on a physical and mental level. A big emphasis in our sessions is placed on movement patterns, teaching runners to become more efficient through educating them on and developing correct technique. If you’d like to join us please message for further details re session squads and times. I look forward to welcoming you into our squad. #BeGCRAtrained #Resultsspeak
