13.01.2022 We’re back! Snake season is now well upon us. Over the following couple of months reptiles on the Gold Coast will become increasingly active as their annual opportunity to breed comes around once again. The following are things which can help you make your own property more snake safe. * Keep your lawn short and gardens clear of overgrowth. Snakes are excellent at camouflage and often blend in well with their surroundings. Unfortunately, this makes them prone to being stepp...ed on and accidentally disturbed, which can result in a bite. Keeping your lawn short and garden clear of thick overgrowth will increase your own visibility which in turn reduces the likelihood of accidentally stumbling too close to a snake. * Remove any rubbish or unnecessary ground lying debris. Snakes are not awfully picky when it comes to selecting a place to shelter. Sheets of corrugated iron, log/rock piles, and even deserted household junk are ideal locations, especially when left unattended for extended periods of time. The more shelter sites your property provides - the more likely snakes are to hang around. * Keep your doors shut! Though snakes are not fond of being around people, they are prone to travelling indoors while searching for a cooler location to sit out the mid day heat. Unfortunately once inside snakes are easily disorientated and struggle to find a way out. If you are to encounter a snake at home this season you can get in contact with a Gold Coast snake catcher @ 0423 866 017. We are based in Arundel. Services are available 24hrs a day. We’re always happy to identify snakes over the phone if you are able to grab a photo. (WITHOUT moving close or agitating the snake in any way a photo is not worth getting bitten for). Send any photos via text message to 0423 866 017.
