25.01.2022 We will reopen clinics for urgent infant TT care as of Wednesday 29th April. But we still have some restrictions. To care for all we have the following measures in place. Referral letter from an IBCLC lactation consultant is required before entering the clinic to ensure we limit the people coming to those who have already been triaged. Please have your LC email the letter to us as well as bring a copy with you. Please call the clinic to make your appointment at any time but your appointment will only be confirmed upon us receiving the letter.

25.01.2022 https://www.goldlearning.com//gold-learning-online-tongue- Dr Dan will be speaking at this international online conference in September. You can register to listen / watch online using the link

25.01.2022 Great to see this fantastic article in the Herald Sun amongst other places https://amp.heraldsun.com.au//d6a9c2154dedaf95a5bc8bcc74fa Great to see this article published in Morning Herald. Well done Marjan Jones

24.01.2022 More reasons why we do what we do. Thanks to Yue Weng Cheu and Louisa Lee in Singapore for this great diagram.

23.01.2022 CoVid19 update: We are requiring all patients to have an online (Zoom) consultation with Dr Dan the day before any possible emergency surgery. This is to triage those who require urgent help. As per previous, all patients must also have seen an IBCLC prior to this consultation. A referral letter must have been received by us prior to the consultation as well. Patients are asked to not arrive early. There will only be 1 family in our clinic at any time. All patients and their families will require to go through sanitising procedures before and upon entry. If you have a thermometer please bring that with you.

22.01.2022 Wonderful to see almost 50 attendees from all over Australia and NZ at this TTI event. Dentists (and their teams), Drs, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Lactation Consultants and Midwifes were all present. It was so much fun to share the protocols developed at TTI and used at Heal.

20.01.2022 This shows an adult 1 week after treatment. This adult had previously had a tie all the way to the tip of the tongue and had experienced some re-attachment. For infants / toddlers / children it may be more difficult to dry the area first. However, the action of the stretch and the intention behind it remains the same

20.01.2022 COVID-19 update Level 3 Dental Restrictions 27th March 2020 Dear Immediate Team Members, Affiliate Health Care Workers (members of our wider inter-disciplinary team), Referrers and Patients Our Infant Tongue Tie Clinic is still open. Non urgent services have been modified to online, or are closed completely due to the restrictions....Continue reading

20.01.2022 Dr Dan Hanson founder of our TT clinic is looking forward to being a part of this great inter-disciplinary team in 10 days time. He hopes to see any Brisbane or Gold Coast based health professionals there. Come and find out how you can assist with oral function from toddler age and beyond. https://myomunchee.com/munchee-protocols/brisbane

20.01.2022 This is a great article which is well references and provides further evidence that oral function is very important (tongue tie are mentioned as an important factor in oral function) D'Onofrio L. Oral dysfunction as a cause of malocclusion. Orthod Craniofac Res. 2019;22(Suppl. 1):43-48. https://doi.org/10.1111/ocr.12277 Oral restrictions

20.01.2022 This is a great way to get young kids to learn to chew and swallow functionally. They are often too young to follow complex instructions but still need to improve oral function as soon as possible. The MyoMunchee can be effective in stopping thumb / finger sucking as well as helping to develop oral musculature. Whilst dummies (pacifiers) force the lips, cheeks and tongue into dysfunciton; the MyoMunchee encourages better functional swallowing by encouraging the tongue into th...e roof of the mouth and by minimising contraction of the ckeeks and lips during swallowing. The muscles of the lips, cheeks and tongue act rather like a sculptor in a growing child, and the jaws and teeth are like a lump of clay (in this analogy) so how the muscles funciton affects jaw and facial growth. The jaws and face must grow normally if we are to have enough room for our erupting teeth. See more

18.01.2022 Dr Dan Hanson is looking forward to getting back to clinic on Thursday after lecturing to a full house of dentists from Japan on Saturday. He is particularly excited about the depth of knowledge of Japanese clinicians regarding paediatric #sleepapnoea and the role of the #tonguetie in jaw growth and making #straightteeth happen

17.01.2022 QLD Gov fact sheet on some of the implications of tongue tie

17.01.2022 Day 2 of lecturing today in Brisbane. Today I will speak about the importance of a forming a great team and gaining enough experience prior to venturing into treatment of infants and toddlers. We suggest at least 500 frenectomies in kids and adults prior to venturing into this specific age group. Experience is key.

17.01.2022 Day 2 of TTI Sofitel Brisbane - The Advanced Course for treatment of Children and Adults. Dr Dan was first up to lecture - he was speaking about working as a team and how to properly prepare the patient for excellent outcomes.

17.01.2022 Day 2 of Dr Dan’s 4 city lecture tour of USA with MyoMunchee. 2 days ago was LA and today is Seattle. He’s speaking about the importance of correct oral and breathing function in relation to how kids faces grow and how their teeth come through, and links to Paediatric Sleep issues, and behavioural issues.

16.01.2022 So much fun today in Sydney sharing an integrative approach to health care #tonguetie

16.01.2022 Great sleep is essential for children to grow and develop properly. We know that issues such as tongue tie and incorrect swallowing and breathing function affect how the jaws grow and how the jaws grow affects not only facial appearance and room for the teeth, but also sleep apnoea..... Obstructive sleep apnoea in particular is related to not having enough room in the mouth for the tongue, so the tongue drops back and blocks the airway during sleep. Also it appears that incorrect breathing patterns may relate to neurological changes which lead to Central Sleep Apnoea

15.01.2022 CoVid19 Update. Unfortunately we are no longer open until further notice. Coastal Dental Care have made a decision to stop all new patient appointments at this time. I am very sorry to have to share this news. Dr Dan Hanson

15.01.2022 Here's an example of an IBCLC who had lived with oral restriction for many years. ..... At our TT clinic we help adults like this too.... but it's better to be dealt with as a baby. #thrivenotjustsurvive

14.01.2022 Just finished 2 day conference on MTHFR in Melbourne. Very interesting to listen to experts in this field.... MTHFR genetic polymorphisms are highly suspected to be a cause of TT

11.01.2022 Interesting information about the effects of pacifiers on otitis media. Possible reasons for this is that introducing a pacifier into the mouth leads to alterations in swallowing patterns. In particular, the cheeks activate more, and the tongue is forced to thrust instead of elevate. This change in swallowing function leads to alterations in craniofacial growth (since elevation of the tongue and de-activation of cheek muscles leads to better growth of the top jaw). In young p...eople the Eustachian tube is already at risk of not draining because it is relatively horizontal compared to an older child / adult and so cannot drain so well. Deficient growth of the top jaw makes this risk even greater since the tube itself is likely to be more narrow.... combine this with mouth breathing (which increases congestion / inflammation) which often goes hand in hand with low tongue posture (from pacifiers, bottle use, or tongue ties)... and you've got a perfect storm for recurrent otitis media. 09.01.2022 I’ll be back at GCTLTC on Wednesday before travelling to USA to share similar information with Mary Bourke and the MyoMunchee team on Thursday

09.01.2022 Amazing to read that only 1% of UK mums are still breastfeeding 6 month old bubs. And just as concerning to learn that 2/3s of them don’t think there’s any difference between human milk and formula. At GCTLTC we support all mums whether they are breastfeeding or not. However the key to making informed choices is education. There’s not always a choice but when there are options, accurate knowledge empowers mums to do what’s best for their families

09.01.2022 Interesting article stating some advantages of using laser for tongue tie surgery

08.01.2022 Another reason why we like to establish proper feeding (and breathing) function as early as possible. Interesting article and while this by no means can say lip ties / tongue ties actually cause SIDS (an infant sleep apnoea which leads to death), it does point to the fact that feeding dysfunction (from ties) may be related to airway dysfunction. Certainly other

08.01.2022 Guess what caused this open bite / cross bite?

06.01.2022 Due to Corona Virus we are currently only seeing infants with feeding challenges. All non urgent treatments are cancelled until further notice. Also Dr Dan Hanson is currently on day 6 of his 14 day quarantine after returning from his lecture trip to USA. He is fit and well and will at this stage return to the first clinic back on Thursday 2nd April unless government guidelines and restrictions prevent this from happening. Stay safe and stay connected.

05.01.2022 Yesterday Dr Dan Hanson and his colleagues Dr Marjan and Anton Jones we’re privileged to lecture on oral restriction to many different professions from all over the world- from Texas to Taiwan! From dentists to osteopaths, to chiropractors and Lactation Consultants.

05.01.2022 There will be some discussion about tongue ties at this talk. Great to see such education getting out to our local community

04.01.2022 I really like this article by Dr Ghaheri in USA http://www.drghaheri.com//rethinking-tongue-tie-anatomy-an

04.01.2022 Pleased to announce that we no longer require referral from an LC, and we are able to perform our usual 1 week review post-surgery. However we strongly suggest that you see an LC before bringing infants with feeding challenges and if possible a referral letter is ideal. We are crossing our fingers that restrictions do not return for us here in QLD and we have now rebuilt and retrained our non-clinical team after being hit hard by the effects of COVID-19 restrictions. Our receptionists are now fully trained and ready to serve your needs. Our clinical team has always remained the same, and Dr Dan wishes to share his gratitude for everyone's patience during this challenging time.

01.01.2022 Even more research showing that tongue function is important for prevention / correction of snoring.

01.01.2022 Some interesting science happening in relation to breastmilk. Watch this space.
