23.01.2022 '...the rejection of animal exploitation is part of a struggle to reject all forms of objectification and discrimination, including those directed at humans'. - https://www.abolitionistapproach.com/veganism-history-cont/ Principle Five... Abolitionists reject all forms of human discrimination, including racism, sexism, heterosexism, ageism, ableism, and classismjust as they reject speciesism. Summary The Abolitionist Approach to Animal Rights rejects speciesism because, like racism, sexism, heterosexism, and other forms of human discrimination, it uses a morally irrelevant criterion (species) to discount and devalue the interests of sentient beings. But any opposition to speciesism makes sense only as part of a general opposition to all forms of discrimination. That is, we cannot oppose speciesism but claim that, as animal advocates, we do not have a position on these other forms of discrimination. We cannot say that we reject species as a morally objectionable criterion to discount or devalue the interests of nonhumans but that we do not have a position on whether race, sex, or sexual orientation/preference are morally objectionable criteria when used to discount or devalue human interests. Our opposition to speciesism requires that we oppose all discrimination. https://www.abolitionistapproach.com//the-six-principles-/

06.01.2022 '...In response, you might ask whether the animals we use for food and clothing are less important than more familiar animals like cats and dogs. After all, we live with cats and dogs, but most of us dont accept cows and turkeys into our homes. Maybe the animals we love are different from the ones we use and eat. This line of thinking has no foundation. Pigs and fish are like dogs and cats in every morally significant way: they are thinking, feeling, aware beings who experie...nce the world and feel pleasures and pains. The fact that many of us love and care for cats and dogs while we participate in the unnecessary use and killing of fish and pigs does not show that there is any important difference between these animals. 03.01.2022 We recently read about a school in the UK that has banned veganism calling it an "extreme diet"... You know, if anything should be banned it's celebrities, medi...a etc from misusing the word "vegan" to describe any diet. That's because veganism isn't a diet. Veganism is an ethical position. There's a lot of different diets people can have while being vegan. Whatever the reason for being on a particular diet, whether it is health or illness or weight loss - that doesn't equate to veganism. It's true that some people lose weight when they go vegan. Some gain weight. Since being vegan, we've both gained and lost weight depending on our diet (and exercise of course). It is really frustrating to see media/ pop culture continually latch onto the word "vegan" as the buzz word for any diet that involves plants . Some vegans are smaller, some are bigger, some are muscly, some are not, some are health conscious, some are "junk food vegans"- that's because we are on different diets, and are different people. But what we do have in common is that we all believe that it is both wrong and unncessary to exploit and kill animals, so we can't and won't do that, whatever our particular diet is. So to media, pop culture, influencer, celebrities etc out there, eating plants for weight loss/health/whatever other reason that isn't animal rights - if you could stop referring to your diet as "vegan"...that would be great!
