25.01.2022 TERM 3 SCHOOL SPORT UPDATE- BASKETBALL Throughout Term 3, GGHS has participated in a number of Basketball Carnivals and fixtures. Here is a short summary of some of the events that we have participated in. YEAR 9/10 VISTA GIRLS BASKETBALL CARNIVAL We took two teams of Year 9 and 10 Girls to the Vista Girls Basketball Carnival held at MARS Stadium. Having won this carnival for the previous two years, we headed out keen to retain our trophy! The girls all played fantastically i...n what was a dominant display, with our Division 1 team going through the day undefeated and winning the whole tournament. Our Division 2 team also competed hard all day and finished 5th overall against some strong opposition. Well done to all the girls involved and a special thanks to Ella for contributing her expertise and coaching the Division 1 team to victory! YEAR 9/10 BOYS VISTA BASKETBALL CARNIVAL GGHS, again, took two teams to the Boys Year 9/10 Vista Basketball Carnival, this time at the brand new The Lights Stadium. Both teams performed admirably and both were right in the mix come the preliminary finals and both were playing off for a spot in the final in their respective divisions - both against Cedar College. The Division 2 team had their chances but just couldnt quite get over the line, going down to Cedar College in a nail-biter that came down to the last seconds of the game. The Division 1 team fought hard but were beaten in the end by a bigger Cedar College team. Both teams finished 4th overall, but could have very easily have won the day had a couple of things gone their way. Well done to all players who showed great grit, determination and resilience throughout the day. STATE-WIDE KNOCKOUT OPEN BOYS BASKETBALL The first round of this knockout fixture saw our GGHS Open Boys Basketball Team face up against Gleeson and St Columba Colleges. Our first game against St Columba was close throughout the whole game, but unfortunately in the end our boys just couldnt quite compete with the height and went down in a tough loss. The second game against Gleeson looked dangerous to begin as Gleeson quickly got out to a 15 point lead. To our boys credit, they dug deep and dragged the margin back to 5 points at half time. It unfortunately wasnt to be though with Gleeson going on to win by 20 points and progressing to the second round of the competition. STATE-WIDE KNOCKOUT OPEN GIRLS BASKETBALL Our Open Girls team took on Gleeson College in the first round of the state-wide competition and grabbed the victory in what was another dominant display of basketball prowess. The girls led from start to finish in this game and ended up 20 point victors, progressing to the second round of the competition and just one more win away from the State Finals. This was a great effort by all the girls. Good luck for your next game! Matt Sharpe PE Leader See more
24.01.2022 GGHS teams up with the Golden Grove Lions Club and Hutt Street centre' On Friday 23rd October some students from the Discovery Centre and Golden Grove Titans teamed up with the Lions club and Hutt street centre as part of our annual fundraising program. Part 1 of this was process was the 'walk a mile in my boots' initiative earlier in the year and Part 2 is to now work alongside the Lions club on 'the good box project' an initiative that recently set up to support people expe...riencing homelessness. This initiative helps provide small boxes, that contain food and sanitary items, to people experiencing homelessness and our role was to write some letters that would be placed into the boxes before they are distributed. If you would like to find out more about this initiative, then please go to: www.thegoodbox.com.au. Well done to all of those who participated and there were some very caring and supportive letters written by our students. T. Potter - GG Titans team manager.

24.01.2022 KINDNESS IN THE COMMUNITY Yesterday, the school had a phone call from members of the public who wanted to pass on their gratitude to three of our Year 12 girls Georgia, Kaitlyn and Darsie. They had lost their phone and our GGHS students found the phone and managed to return it to the very relieved owner.... A reminder that one small act of kindness can change someones day and it did yesterday!

22.01.2022 POWER TO BE POSITIVE - PROGRAM FOR DEFENCE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS We would usually travel to the Power Clubrooms for this annual event, however, due to COVID restrictions at the Club we had Will Townsend, Bobby (Alipate) Carlile and Russell Ebert from the Power Community come to our site this year. Defence students from each Campus school were invited to participate in the program and the students learned about identifying character strengths, goal setting, gratitude and mindfu...lness as well as growing from challenges. Usually a few AFL players would come and speak with the students, however, this year we enjoyed seeing a video interview of some players where they talked of similarities of moving around, being away from family and having to integrate into a new 'community'. The students enjoyed interacting with Will, Bobby and Russell when learning some team building footy skills, and did well! Thank you to all those who supported this event! 22.01.2022 During week 2,3 and 4 all Year 11 classes undertook their 3 day canoeing trip in Ral Ral creek, North of Renmark. It was time to put into action what they had been learn about in class - Group Dynamic, using a compass, read and interpreting map , cooking on trangia and sleeping in tents. After the first day of trip is a easy 6km paddle to camp which on Calpurin Station. The second day is little more taxing, with 18km to paddle for the day, but some rewarding views and a cool ...swim at the end of the day. The students still made camp the second night with time to spare. The third and final day was an early start and about 6 km back to the buses, where things are clean and put back on the buses ready for the return back to school by the end of the day. Well done to the students on camp, they did a really good job on camp. A special thanks to Stephanie Sunter, Kelly Rowe and Elsepth Druce for being the extra staff on camp, without them it’s hard to make the camps work.
