25.01.2022 Blood oranges continue to look fantastic this season and it is a great time to enjoy all their tasty and nutritional goodness! We supply two varieties of blood oranges Arnold and Tarocco. Tarocco blood oranges are an Italian variety, medium to large in size and are round in shape with a small bump on the stem end. They have thin orange skin which is slightly blushed in red tones and are easy to peel. Arnold blood oranges are an Australian variety, small to medium in size an...d their skin is tinged with a deep red blush. Tarocco blood oranges are slightly sweeter than Arnold blood oranges, which have a sweet-tart flavour. The Tarocco variety season will end soon while we expect to have the Arnold variety until late October or early November. Both varieties are wonderful for eating raw, juicing and cooking into sweet and savoury dishes. Enjoy them as much as you can while their season lasts. See more

24.01.2022 When we understand where the fruit we eat has been grown, who has grown it and the process involved in getting that fruit from the tree to our fruit bowls, we are able to make more informed choices about the produce we buy and consume. That’s why we do our best to introduce you to as many of our growers as possible. Meet the Alampi Family, third generation fruit growers and fruit packers from Prima Fresh Group in Tatura, Victoria. Gerard Alampi and his team have an incredible... passion for fruit and it shows in the exceptional quality across all varieties of their stone fruit, apples and pears. Their fruit has grown to become famous across Australia for its exceptional flavour, consistency and premium quality, no doubt attributed to the Alampi Family's years of experience, hard work and meticulous attention to detail in the growing, harvest and packing process. In 2018 Gerard won the Apple and Pear Australia Grower of the Year Award for his contribution across all aspects of fruit production including growing, environmental management, staff management and product quality. We are incredibly proud to work with the Prima Fresh team to distribute their fruit throughout NSW and the ACT. 15.01.2022 Visiting the lively shopping precinct of Sydney’s Northern suburb of Eastwood is an incredible experience! The village has an undeniable buzz about it created by the thousands of Sydney siders that flock there daily to shop at the local greengrocer, butcher shops, fishmongers and Asian grocery stores. It’s also home to many restaurants and specialty food stores, with strong influences from the local Chinese and Korean communities. The hustle and bustle of Eastwood Village is ...a familiar scene for greengrocer Joe Bova and his family who have operated their famous Eastwood Superfresh Village store since 2003. Their store is as vibrant and colourful as the village itself, filled to the brim with a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and an amazing assortment of Mediterranean and Asian ingredients, fresh nuts, sweet treats and savoury delicacies. The abundantly stacked towers of fresh produce are striking, constantly replenished throughout the day to meet the demand of the local community and local restaurants. The quality of the produce is incredible, all sourced by Joe from local Sydney farms and theSydney Markets daily. And the variety of fresh produce is unparalleled, an extraordinary selection ready to cook into any cuisine. The Bova Family are excellent at what they do, and it shows through their impeccable store, good old fashioned great service and their admirable work ethic, something that has carried through the three greengrocer generations of the family and the many stores that they have operated, starting with Nonno Giuseppe soon after he migrated to Sydney from Calabria, Italy in the 1950s. The young fourth generation is slowly making their way into the business with the same enthusiasm and passion as the generations before them, which is wonderful to see. Great fresh produce, great friendly service, in a great bustling Sydney hub! It’s a pleasure to work with such a great business and family! Eastwood City of Ryde Council

12.01.2022 US pomegranates are now available and their quality is great. We expect to have regular supply for the next few months until Australian pomegranate season starts in February. Ripe pomegranates should feel heavy as if their arils are full of juice and their skin should be firm and taut. The darker and deeper the colour of their skin, the sweeter the fruit will be.
11.01.2022 We couldn't agree more Peter! Don't let the coarse textured, bumpy exterior of a Gold Nugget mandarin stop you from trying these beauties. It's what's on the inside that's important! Sweet, juicy and magnificent! Enjoy them before their season ends!
10.01.2022 Navel oranges and Dolci navel oranges are coming to the end of their season so this weekend is the perfect time to preserve their sweet and juicy goodness into juices, preserves, marmalade, curd, dehydrated slices and dressings. Harvest of Valencia oranges is just about to begin and we expect to see them make their way onto the market stand this coming week.

05.01.2022 As the weather starts to warm up, we see signs of Spring pop up everywhere around us. The hard working bees are busy working their magic pollinating the cherry blossoms, an integral part of the cherry growing process. Here are some beautiful scenes of the blossoming cherry trees from Yarck and Yarroweyah in Victoria, courtesy of our cherry growers, Koala Cherries. A wonderful time of year, in anticipation of all the beautiful cherries that we’ll start to see in the markets from November.
04.01.2022 A stunning Sydney Sunday with signs of Spring everywhere! As the seasons change so too will all the wonderful fruit we've been enjoying in Winter. Now is the time to preserve all that citrus goodness in the form of curds, preserves, marmalades and spreads to enjoy when all the glorious citrus comes to an end. Here's our recipe for a citrus curd, perfect for drizzling over cakes, adding to muesli or filling a tart with: 1 and1/4 cup caster sugar 2 teaspoons cornflour 2 whole e...ggs 2 egg yolks 120ml mandarin juice (or orange juice) 80ml lemon juice 120g unsalted butter (cut in cubes) Place sugar and cornflour in a saucepan. Whisk well. Add whole eggs, egg yolks and juices. Whisk well. Add the butter. Place saucepan over medium heat and whisk constantly until the mixture thickens (8-10 minutes). Strain the curd through a sieve into a bowl. Cover bowl with cling wrap, so that the wrap is touching the curd, to avoid a skin forming. Refrigerate for 2 hours. To store, place curd in sterilised jars and keep in the fridge. @ Sydney, Australia See more

03.01.2022 We have had the good fortune of working with some amazing fruit growers over the years and recently we lost of one of our best, with the passing of Nick Parris. Together with his brother, Nick operated ACN Orchards in Bunbartha Victoria, who are renowned across Australia for growing some of the country’s best quality stone fruit and apples. He is a great loss to the industry and we offer our condolences to his family and loved ones. Vale Nick Parris. Images courtesy SPC.

02.01.2022 We have the good fortune of working with amazing people operating incredible businesses and it brings us great joy celebrating them! We recently visited the delightful Quattroville Family at their vibrant store, Fourth Village Providore, in Sydney’s Mosman. Stepping into Fourth Village Providore instantly feels like you’ve been transported to a Southern Italian village Mercato, abundantly filled to the brim with a culinary smorgasbord of delicious ingredients and an endless s...upply of generosity and inspiration. The sweet tomatoes are ripe and ready to bite straight into. The juicy peaches smell like Summer. The fragrant purple streaked garlic is proudly parading and longing to be turned into a spaghetti aglio e olio. The Quattroville Family have a profound respect for fresh fruit and vegetables and an inherent understanding of celebrating the seasons, something that Peter and Annette have passed onto their sons, John, Dominic and Sal, who all operate the business together. They have a unique enthusiasm and passion for what they do and have managed to bottle that passion into the extraordinary array of jarred delicacies that adorn the store. Preserved lemons, Marsala poached figs, blood orange marmalade, raspberry conserve, artichoke pesto, apple sauce there are hundreds of products to select from, all made in the Fourth Village Kitchen using fresh produce at the peak of its season for maximum flavour. The variety is incredible and seeing our grower’s produce come to life in this way is exciting. Nothing goes to waste and every ingredient is seen as an opportunity. It’s sold fresh in store to the local community, preserved into something delicious, turned into a gourmet take away offering or used in the family’s dine-in restaurant. (Yes - Fourth Village turns into an Italian restaurant at night, which opens onto an al fresco mini piazza setting, with its own fountain!) It’s impossible to walk through this culinary wonderland while listening to Eros Ramazzotti and not get excited, especially as we approach the festive season. It’s like Nonna has opened her kitchen for everyone to relish in. Hot bread from the oven three times a day, an endless supply of freshly baked sweet treats, ricotta cakes and chocolate chip cookies, extra virgin olive oil from the family’s Hunter Valley Farm, Rosé from the family’s vineyard, home-made lemonade, Italian nougat, pasta made specifically for the store in Italy, towers of panettone, a dedicated cheese room shall we go on? 01.01.2022 One of the advantages of buying fresh produce from your local greengrocer instead of a major supermarket is that your greengrocer visits the Sydney Markets and their growers every morning to hand select the produce specifically for their local community. The produce they select from is at its freshest, seasonal best, usually within hours of being harvested. Meet John from Farmers Fresh Burwood in Sydney’s bustling Inner Western suburb of Burwood. John is responsible for sele...cting all the amazing fresh produce that you’ll see beautifully stacked across this immaculately presented, colourful space. He has a comprehensive understanding of the diverse local Burwood community and a keen eye for quality, reflected through the wonderful selection of fresh produce throughout the store. With the beautiful array of summer fruit currently on offer, including juicy peaches and nectarines, sweet cherries and fragrant apricots, the store looks and smells particularly amazing! Farmers Fresh Burwood also stocks a wonderful variety of gourmet groceries sure to impress any discerning gastronome, including an incredible selection of cheeses, nuts, spices and pantry essentials. They have an amazing selection of Asian, Middle Eastern and European groceries, perfect for creating a Shakshuka for breakfast, a Thai green vegetable curry for lunch, a Greek Moussaka for dinner or a cheesy Knafeh for dessert! The team at Farmer’s Fresh have done a great job at serving the local Burwood community for the last 3 years and we wish them ongoing success for many years to come. Be sure to visit Farmers Fresh Burwood located on the ground floor of Burwood Westfields, in the fresh food precinct. Burwood Council Westfield Burwood A Better Choice
