18.01.2022 Be kind to me this Christmasfrom a little person's point of view: - You've probably let me eat more sugar than usual. I'm bound to have higher highs and lower ...lows. - In the holidays I'm out of routine. I can cope better with transitions when I know exactly what's coming next, so please explain our plans for the day clearly to me. - The anticipation of Christmas can be pretty overwhelming and exhausting. Help me to rest by keeping to my normal bedtimes. - Travelling at Christmas is stressful for all of us. When possible, be flexible about when we travel and check the traffic before we leave. - I have no idea about the value of money. If there's no way I can have that giant Lego set for Christmas, then please tell me well before Christmas morning. I'll have time to get over my disappointment, and I'll learn to trust your honesty. - Grown-ups find preparing for Christmas stressful. I know you want it to be perfect for me so I'll have memories I can cherish forever. But I see you getting stressed, sometimes even before you do. I pick up on it and reflect it like a mirror. Please slow down, notice me, talk to me, play with me. That's what I'll remember. - When I lose itand I probably will at some pointplease don't make me ashamed of my feelings by shouting at me. I never set out to deliberately disappoint you and I didn't try to ruin your Christmas. I'm really not that calculated. I'm just a little person whose brain deals with stress in different ways to yours. Please try to understand me, from my point of view. And when all else fails, wrap your arms around me and hold me so I feel the strength of your love. Shared via Esther's Childminding

16.01.2022 "When it comes to education, play is enough: it contains within it all the important questions and answers. We don't need adults commanding, coaxing, coaching, ...or cajoling the children in order for it to be purposeful. When I hear people use the phrase "play with a purpose" (or something similar) I cringe because no matter how well intended, I know that these are people who don't trust the children's natural instincts and so feel compelled, however gently, to turn their self-directed learning into yet another adult-directed activity that may or may not lead children to answers that are important to them." The wise and wonderful Teacher Tom talks about the natural instincts of children and play, and how sometimes, we big people may just need to leave well enough alone! https://teachertomsblog.blogspot.com//children-dont-need-a

12.01.2022 Look at the differences between a typical preschool child’s hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isn’t abl...e to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Playdough, colouring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc. All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready! See more
12.01.2022 Class 3-4 camp Quaranup day 3 photos The children had a wonderful camp full of many new and exciting experiences. Hiking, archery, raft making, jetty jumping and rogaining. Time was also spent strengthening friendships, adjusting to new environments without parents, paddling through rock pools, board games, cricket and ping pong. The children were amazing and it was a such fun! Heartfelt thanks to Monique who spent all 3 days with us and to Ryan and Heath who shared the role... as parent supervisor’s. Your help and support was invaluable and the children loved having you along. Special thanks to the many parents who cooked and baked to add some home cooked goodies to our menu. The facilities and staff at Camp Quaranup were amazing. My heart is very full See more

11.01.2022 Class 3/4 sleepover has been deemed a success. The children were very excited to spend the night in their classroom surrounded by their peers. An evening of board games, craft, dressing up for dinner and spotlight has indeed proved exhausting, but oh what fun!! Special thanks to Jewels and Leif for joining us in classroom 3/4 and to Monique, Jane, Rangi, Eli, Heath, Lesley, Kerry and Nat for helping with dinner, breakfast, lunch and yummy morning tea. My heart feels very full

08.01.2022 It's a skill most commonly associated with your grandmother or aunty. But the art of knitting is on the comeback trail. It's being used to teach kids about technology - without them touching a device. #9ACA
08.01.2022 Our latest special guests have been chicks... and their Mum. Rosie in class 3 bought in her newly hatched chick’s for news. The children delighted in their new visitors and it was lovely to hear of the feathered foul frequenters in many households. So far this year we have had guinea pigs, rats, rabbits and a puppy dog.

We have looked at lots of different money from all over the world and talked about the differences in currency from names, numbers and value. We then began our money market by making our own Denmark Dollar and selling and buying produce tokens within our class market. Lots of fun!

04.01.2022 Our Autumn Festival is this Friday. One of the highlights for our upper primary children is the walking of the rope bridge. A crossing of courage and for many their first crossing. Kristi needs helpers (preferably Dads for their strength) on the Thursday afternoon at 3 pm to assist with erecting the bridge and at 8 am on the Friday morning to tension the bridge. Please comment below or let Kristi know. Many thanks X
