22.01.2022 LEO UPDATE Leo went to his palliative forever home last night and has been a cuddly loving boy since. Today he had a vet visit and groom and doesn't he look handsome. Thank you so much to Leo's new family xx

21.01.2022 LOCKYS STORY Candice here, this post will be long and extremely honest but important to show what we do. Locky is the meaning of Rescue to me. I rescued him the evening before gina passed and went through quite a battle to save this boy. I have waited until now to share his story due to the grief my family and i went through to get him. Locky came into my care on 13/5/20 when I took him from his then carer after seeing a video of his state sent by her.... He was in a terrible state with his back open and full of fly bite wounds and flesh infections, his ears were almost split into two, mass tumors on his chest, throat and genitals, arthritis was severe, hypo thyroid untreated, skinny and filthy stuck in a back yard being jumped on and bitten by another dog. I took him so I could get him to a vet and give him mercy, I felt it was the only humane thing I could do. I befriended his carer and told her I'd fix him in order to get him out of the hell he was suffering. I broke a toddler's heart by taking her best friend. I took locky to colyton vet, they were horrified and agreed mercy, but i decided to try to see if I could help first This was 5 months ago. Once home, I cleaned his wounds, he just laid there and let me do it. I then covered them in castor oil and zinc (Flies hate this, it works as a barrier) i fed locky chicken and broth. We made a fly deterent spray from apple cider vinegar and water (dries wounds and stops infections) Both of these are household item's and something anyone can do! After 4 days He ate well, he slept well and he started walking so much better. Back to the vet we started thyroid meds, they were amazed at his healing sores and told me to keep doing whatever I was doing. 3 MNTHS ON chest + neck tumor removed, hair starts to grow. NOW Locky has best friends, sleeps in my loungeroom watching netflix every night, Eats like a horse has new spiky hairs and loves people, he's boss! TOMORROW locky goes to the vet to have his final tumor removed. Pictures via private message only. More info and about locky to come

19.01.2022 They tell you not to cry. They tell you that it's just a dog, not a human being. They tell you that the pain will be over.... They tell you that the animals don't know that they have to die. They tell you that it's important not to let him suffer. They tell you that you can have another one. They tell you it's going to happen to you. They tell you that there is more pain. But they don't know how many times you've looked into your dog’s eyes. They don't know how many times you and your dog have looked into darkness alone. They don't know how many times your dog was the only one who was by your side. They don't know how much fear you have at night when you wake up with your grief. They don't know how many times your dog slept near you. They don't know how much you've changed since the dog has become a part of your life. They don't know how many times you hugged him when he was sick. They don't know how many times you've acted like you didn't see his hair getting whiter. They don't know how many times you've talked to your dog, the only one who really hears. They don't know that it was just your dog who knew you were in pain. They don't know what it feels like to see your old dog trying to get up to say hello. They don't know that if things went wrong, the only one who didn't go is your dog. They don't know that your dog trusts you every moment of his life, even in the last. They don't know how much your dog loved you and how it is enough for him to be happy, because you loved him. They don't know that crying for a dog is one of the most noble, significant, true, purest and warmest things you can do. They don't know when the last time you moved him with trouble... making sure it didn’t hurt him. They don't know what it felt like to pet their face in the last moments of their life.... In Memory of all those who went over the rainbow bridge. You all have a place forever in our hearts Namaste. ~Michelle xo |www.michellerussell.com

19.01.2022 PHINEAS UPDATE Our crazy active and so very mischievous boy is just over 12 weeks old now. He came in 6 weeks ago from a breeder under duty of care because he had a very bad heart. Phineas has a grade 5 heart murmer and possible other heart issues. We are waiting another 4 weeks (vets suggestion) before he has his first cardiologist appointment. ... From there we will find out if surgery is a possibility and will know more about prices and plans. For now Phineas is a palliative care (so high needs) and is spending his days here at my (candices) crazy zoo for now. Phineas adores the chickens, rabbit and his best friend is 40kg locky (also a palliative boy) he may have a heart problem but until you hold him (you can literally feel the crazy of his heart) or see him need a wind down, you would never guess it. Phineas is not available for foster or adoption until we know more about his heart. However he does very much love his cuddles and visitors almost daily with the high traffic of living here with us.

19.01.2022 Most definitely

18.01.2022 So proud of the new GOAR Today while I worked the fundraising stall, Becky transported our new boy from the pound to me and into my care, Becky then transported buddy to his new foster home. We do everything as a team and it's working so well. I wish all rescues I have been involved in acted the same :) No drama no bosses or power highs, no gossip and immaturity just LOVE, TRUST COMMUNICATION AND COMPASSION. To everyone who has helped Becky and I build back up, thank you.... From auctions to page moderaters, admins, volunteers, support, shares, donations, transporters, vets, advice and well support. We ALL as a team should be proud. See more

17.01.2022 I just had to share this picture of Phineas, Franky and Leo today. (and princess laya in the back ground). They have had a great day socialising today. Leo has had a big day today, with a visit from his first carer this afternoon and is meeting his new forever mum in a couple of hours.

17.01.2022 ZOE UPDATE Foster to adopt needed. Zoe is ready to find her forever family. Zoe has separation anxiety and can be verbal when alone So will need someone experienced. She sleeps in her crate with her teddy as you can see above, when she is ready for naps she takes herself to bed. (The crate is only locked through the night)... Since crate training (just under 2 weeks) Zoe now sleeps through the night without having upsets. (In a new home please expect A few night upsets to start, this may not happen) Zoe is on daily medications for her grade 4 heart murmer she has an enlarged heart, this doesn't seem to bother her at all but needs to be medicated. Zoe loves the car, food, walks her toys and talking (she sounds like a little gremlin). Zoe is available in NSW only and the closer to blacktown the better. She is located with Candice in blacktown See more

We decided after Ginas passing that together we would do what we could to keep helping the heartbeats that are Golden Oldies. We are both very much unique individuals with an insane love for animals. We take everyday as it comes and are not afraid to be ourselves. We take rescue incredible seriously and put our animals above and beyond anything. If you would like to know anything please feel free to comment or inbox us girls. We do everything GOAR related together and make all decisions regarding animal rescue and welfare as a team. 11.01.2022 Little Zoe is looking for a foster or temp carer. Zoe is a very anxious dog that needs human contact constantly. So a work from home or stay at home carer would be amazing. Zoe needs to be an ONLY dog. Zoe will be getting dental done and will be a medicated dog.... The closer you are to blacktown or colyton the better. Zoe is an 11 yr old pom x She has a grade 4 heart condition and severe anxiety. Zoe is NOT available for adoption at this stage. Zoe is a sweet little girl who just wants your love and attention. She loves toys and loves even more when you throw them for her and play tug of war. Zoe is a very anxious one so will need someone who is around a lot who can make her feel safe and settled. She is working on using the grass for wees and poos. Whilst she isn’t much of a cuddler, she loves head scratchies and feels comfortable when picked up. She is a very good girl at the vet and is very easy to groom.

08.01.2022 Since Gina passing it has been a roller coaster of a ride for GOAR and alot of amazing stuff has happened. We started our journey with a 3am vet call regarding a dog named Chang having to have an emergency surgery for a twisted stomach, it shocked Candice and myself but it helped us realise why we need to continue Golden Oldies work. We have had many of our GOAR dogs cross to the otherside but in saying that there is plenty of positive to take from this. They left this world...Continue reading

Her plaster is off and now she is in a light bandage/sock to stop her tearing out her stitches, that need to stay in another week. She can now use her foot as much as she likes. BELLA has had a weigh in at home with Candice and has lost 800grams in 8 days. She is going fantastic.
