23.01.2022 Having a BBQ this Grand Final day? Then please make sure your BBQ is in safe working order by following these simple steps - - If a fire occurs, don’t try to extinguish the flames if it is not safe to do so. Call Triple Zero and turn off the gas at the meter or cylinder, but only if you can do so safely.... - Do not use barbecues in windy conditions as the burners may blow out, risking a gas leak. - Check the LP gas cylinder on your barbecue before you turn it on. A cylinder must not be refilled if it hasn’t been tested for more than 10 years or if the cylinder has been damaged. - Have your gas cylinder tested and ensure you use a licensed gasfitter. - You can exchange LP gas cylinders at a reputable supplier. - Check the hose to make sure it has not deteriorated. - Check the connections to make sure they are tight and that the O rings are in good condition and have not cracked or split. - Use your barbecue in a clear space. Never use it indoors or in a confined area and ensure there is adequate clearance from walls, fences, and other property. - Cook with barbecue utensils and wear an apron to protect yourself from hot fat. - Remove excess fat from the barbecue after each use to prevent fires. 22.01.2022 At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month...we will remember them! At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
18.01.2022 Last night a crew from Golden Square and Fire Rescue Victoria’s station 73 responded to a fire in a laundry. The home owner arrived home to find there had been a fire in their laundry and called 000 but due to basic fire science and closing the laundry door the fire was unable to take hold and self extinguished due to a lack of oxygen. Crews ensured there was no fire extension into the rest of the house and returned to station. ... This is perfect example as to why you should close the doors to rooms that aren’t being used, especially whilst you aren’t home as it can reduce the fire progression throughout the property and always have working smoke alarms.

15.01.2022 Time is running out to prepare your property! The Fire Danger Period for the City Of Greater Bendigo will commence at 0100 on the 30th of November 2020. Restrictions during the Fire Danger Period -... - Once the Fire Danger Period comes into effect, CFA and Victoria Police have a ZERO-tolerance approach to any fires caused by negligent behaviour. - CFA can issue permits for certain circumstances during the FDP. There are very strict conditions attached to these permits and the liability sits with the permit holder to ensure they always act safely. - Lighting a fire in the open during Fire Danger Period without a permit is an offence and can bring a penalty of over $19,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment. - Burning off: A written permit is required to burn off grass, undergrowth, weeds or other vegetation during the FDP. This permit may be issued by the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer or the CFA District Office. Please check with your municipality in the first instance. - BBQ's and fires for cooking and warmth do not require a permit, but must be lit in properly constructed fireplaces. - Equipment & Machinery: The use of an incinerator, chainsaw/lawn mower, welding/grinding equipment and vehicles that come in contact with vegetation and machinery with an internal combustion/heat engine are permitted provided certain conditions are followed. 06.01.2022 What is your bushfire survival plan? Victoria is one of the most fire prone areas in the world. If you live near areas that have significant bush, forest or long grass, then you need to plan ahead for the fire season.... A written and preferably well-practised plan will help you remember what needs to be done during a crisis.

Weather Situation: A low pressure system will deepen over northernwestern Victoria this evening before tracking south during Thursday. HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop across western and central parts of the warning area late on Wednesday before extending to the northeast ranges early on Thursday. 6 hourly rainfall totals of 30-50mm are possible into the early hours of Thursday. A Flood Watch is current for North East Victoria. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h are expected to develop about eastern Alpine areas from early on Thursday morning. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines always assume they are live. * Stay informed monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency.
