08.01.2022 Would anyone believe you if you claimed to have caught a Murray Cod this enormous? This one, caught in 1924, would be impossible to believe without archival rec...ords. Murray cod fishermen became known as Murray whalers due to their phenomenal catches, which regularly tipped the scales at 11 kilograms. Amazingly, one catch from the Barwon River in New South Wales reportedly weighed in at a whopping 113kg! Caught in 1902 by three bridge workers who were woken in the night by an uproar in the water, they caught the monster fish using old fencing wire and a large hook baited with kangaroo meat. Whether it be for survival, the thrill of the chase, or relaxation, the fishing experience spans most cultures and is one of the worlds oldest pastimes.
