06.01.2022 I spent some time today with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while. He asked me how my business was going. I was proud to tell him that I have a few businesses under contract. He asked me, "What do you mean under contract?". I told him the process that I go through to on board a contracted client. I told him that I take the time to sit down with a perspective client and review their current state "online". Yes that means that I sit down and look at their Facebook page, Insta...gram page and any other social pages that they have and lastly I look at their website. The purpose of all of these things is to generate more sale but they all work a different way and they all provide a different context to the business. As an example; Facebook may provide a good platform for a business to connect with their clients. Instagram may be a good way to them to showcase work that they have done. My friend said to me, "What do they use their website for?". Well I said, that's a great question. The traffic on their website comes from Google or "organic" reach. So we can track all of that data and anywhere on the website that has generated particular interest and then push marketing on Facebook and Instagram towards a product that we have learned is popular. My friend was quite surprised that this was something that actually happens. I then explained to him when you go and google something do you notice that on Facebook that particular item keeps popping up in your feed? This is re-targeting and it is based on traffic to your website. He then asked me, "What does a contracted customer mean?". I explained to him that I develop the website at no cost up front and I keep modifying the website until the customer is happy and signs off on the design. When the website is in production rather than charging a large fee upfront I ask the customer to pay off the development and management, SEO and analytics each month. This lowers the cost of my services and makes it more affordable for my customers to have a first class website and the reporting to back it up. Then my customers know where they should be spending their marketing budget.
