22.01.2022 KBCCI's Business Adviser Sharni recently met with Jamie Hunter from Kalgoorlie Salvage and Demolition. Sharni and Jamie have discussed some innovative ideas an...d issues that the salvage industry have been facing in the past. Knowing and understanding what our members future plans and challenges may be allows us to connect them to valuable contacts that may be able to assist their business growth and future plans. Sharni introduced Jamie to Roban-Lynn Clarke the Regional Manager of Business Outreach and Engagement from AusIndustry within the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources during her last visit to the Goldfields. From there, Roban was able to pass feedback onto her colleagues in Canberra about challenges in the industry, and make recommendations and referrals for Jamie's future plans.
22.01.2022 Jobs, Jobs and More Jobs!
22.01.2022 We’ve just released our roadmap to carefully ease COVID-19 restrictions to start getting Western Australians back to work safely and begin the process of re-sta...rting the State’s economy. This plan includes specific details on the next phase of easing restrictions in WA which will take effect on Monday 18 May. Western Australia has already implemented many of the changes announced by the Prime Minister on Friday. We have led the way, and other States have looked to us for guidance on the way forward. Our strong performance in controlling the spread of COVID-19 means we will continue to lead the nation when it comes to easing restrictions. Our plan has been developed in conjunction with the National Cabinet framework and is based on the best health advice for Western Australia. Phase 1 is already in place following the cautious relaxing of some restrictions from Monday, 27 April. Phase 2 will focus on encouraging many Western Australians to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable, so the WA economy can further rebuild in a safe and measured way. The new phase will come into effect from Monday, 18 May, giving businesses and families time to plan accordingly and includes: - Indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings lifted to 20 people; - People are encouraged to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable; - Cafés and restaurants can reopen with meal service (including within pubs, bars, clubs, hotels and casino), limited to 20 patrons and the 4 square metre per person capacity rule applied; - Weddings and funerals, limited to up to 20 attendees indoors or 30 outdoors; - Places of worship, community facilities and libraries to re-open, limited to 20 patrons; - Community sports (non-contact) limited to 20 people; - Outdoor or indoor fitness classes (minimal shared equipment) limited to 20 patrons; - Public swimming pools can open under strict rules (one indoor pool and one outdoor pool), limited to 20 patrons per pool. If businesses or premises want to reopen in line with these changes, they will be required to complete an official COVID Safety Plan. More details on this will be released shortly, in consultation with industry. As part of Phase 2, regional travel restrictions will also change, bringing the number of current borders within WA from 13 to only four (not including the Commonwealth Biosecurity zone and remote communities). The new regional boundaries will allow: - Travel between the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Perth and Peel regions; - Travel between the Mid-West, Gascoyne and Pilbara regions (excluding Biosecurity area); - Travel within the Goldfields-Esperance region (excluding the Biosecurity area); - Travel permitted within the Kimberley Local Government areas (the Biosecurity area remains in place). Following this change, it is expected that Phase 3 will be implemented around four weeks from the commencement of Phase 2. Phase 3 will be finalised in the coming weeks, based on the advice from the Chief Health Officer, and will take into account the infection rates across WA. Phase 3 will focus on continuing to build stronger links within the community and include further resumption of commercial and recreational activities, and may include: - Further increases in number of people allowed at indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings; - Possible further relaxation of regional travel restrictions; - Restrictions further relaxed for gyms, health clubs and indoor sport centres; - Contact community sport (indoor and outdoor) permitted, with gathering limits; - Beauty therapy and personal care services permitted; - Auction houses and real estate auctions (not just online as it is currently); and - Public playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, skate parks, zoos, cinemas, galleries, museums and concert venues permitted to open, with gathering limits. Phase 4 and further future easing of restrictions will be assessed and finalised in due course. Western Australia’s hard border with the rest of Australia will remain in place, and is expected to be among the final restrictions lifted. For more information on this roadmap and the easing of restrictions, please visit www.wa.gov.au
22.01.2022 Tia Jefferies and I recently met with Ronald Coleman from Sedgeman. We always love catching up with Ron and hearing all about what he has been up to. Ron is always willing to share his knowledge and let us know about his projects and provide us with updates in the mining sector. It was so great to connect Ron with Michael Beaton so that they could assist one another with networks and knowledge. ... 22.01.2022 Through our hard work, Western Australia continues to have an excellent record in the fight against COVID-19. We are now a week into Phase Two of eased restrict...ions, and have continued to see no local outbreaks in Western Australia. It's a great result, and it gives us reassurance as we can continue to relax restrictions within our State. Today, we can announce the next step in that process. Of all the current restrictions, we know that the limitations on travel throughout regional WA and the boundaries between regions have been particularly difficult for many regional communities. Putting up those boundaries was an important step to protect our regions - including many vulnerable Aboriginal communities and areas with limited access to healthcare. The boundaries meant that potential spread of the pandemic was slowed and contained. As the situation has played out, we have successfully avoided significant community outbreaks, but this was a vital precaution for our State, and for the health of regional Western Australians in particular. We are currently working hard to progress towards Phase Three of easing restrictions, and we will have more to say on that very soon. But today we can announce a change to take effect ahead of the WA Day long weekend, in line with expert health advice from WA's Chief Health Officer. This Friday, 29 May, all regions of Western Australia will be reopened except for those under Commonwealth Biosecurity Area restrictions. That means that travel will be permitted between the Pilbara, Gascoyne, North-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Wheatbelt, Great Southern, South West, Peel and Perth. As the Kimberley and other Biosecurity Areas are currently subject to a different set of restrictions, there is a separate process for reopening them. The WA Police Commissioner and the State Government are working with the Federal Government to remove the Biosecurity Areas from Friday, June 5 around two weeks earlier than the anticipated deadline set by the Federal Government. This means until then, people will need an exemption to enter the Kimberley region, parts of the East Pilbara and the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku. Following 5 June, travel to those areas will also be reopened - however restrictions on travel to remote Aboriginal communities will remain in place pending further consultation. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. These changes will help support our regional towns and local businesses, as well as allowing Western Australians to reconnect with their friends and family in regional WA. I urge everyone who can travel to do their bit, get out there, wander around our State and support local businesses. We should be proud that our efforts in stopping this pandemic have meant that we're able to take action to remove these restrictions in WA. But I would again reiterate that these changes are only possible at this time because of our hard border with the eastern states. As we move forward, we will continue to act in line with the expert health advice of the WA Chief Health Officer and our local experts. In line with that advice, Western Australia’s hard border with the rest of the country will remain in place, and will likely be the final restriction lifted.
21.01.2022 We love seeing businesses trading local! Murray Engineering Pty Ltd recently went through a corporate rebrand and as a result went to refresh their entire vehic...le fleet and facility signage. Kalsigns were selected as the preferred supplier on the basis of quality, cost and service, despite being pitted against Perth-based suppliers. Murray Engineering and Kalsigns then collaborated extensively throughout the design process to implement their new branding across their fleet and facilities throughout Australia. Having now completed vehicles in Pinjarra, Kalgoorlie, Newcastle and Mt Isa works have now begun on the facility rebrands with Pinjarra beginning first. All signs and stickers produced have been designed and manufactured locally in Kalgoorlie, with staff travelling to provide on site installation where required. Having now completed close to 50 vehicles, the relationship has grown between Murray Engineering and Kalsigns to providing machinery sticker and sign solutions to all Murray Engineering branches across Australia. Both Murray Engineering and Kalsigns are still open for business and have the necessary precautions in place to keep operating at full capacity during this time. #tradeloKalwa #shoploKalwa
21.01.2022 I don't think this news will come as much of a surprise - but we've made the decision to delay the commencement of Phase 5 by at least another fortnight. Phase ...5 will see the removal of the 2 square metre capacity rule and the 50 per cent capacity limit for our major venues. But given we have already come so far as a State there is just no need to risk everything for the sake of two weeks. We are closely monitoring the situation in Victoria and New South Wales in relation to our decisions here. With that in mind, and in line with health advice, we will be delaying the introduction of Phase 5 until at least Saturday, August 15. This is a tentative date only, we will provide clarity on whether it will proceed in advance of that date. We are already able to enjoy significantly reduced restrictions and we're making the most of our freedoms. A recent ANZ survey showed Perth is the most confident city in the nation and we must keep it that way. So far, it appears that our measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 from reaching Western Australia from overseas, Victoria or New South Wales appear to be working, but we have to remain cautious and vigilant. So let's keep up our efforts, be sensible, keep up good hygiene, physical distance between others where possible and stay home if unwell. Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

18.01.2022 The restrictions we have had to put in place during this crisis have been significant and disruptive, and the limitations on seeing family and friends have been... particularly difficult for many. But the overwhelming majority of Western Australians have done the right thing, and it has paid off so far. Our State has seen remarkable results in the fight against COVID-19 - and while that fight will continue for some time yet, those results mean we can now cautiously adjust some of the most extreme of those restrictions. As of tomorrow, 27 April, based on expert health advice, the two person limit on non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings will be adjusted, with the limit rising to 10 people. Additionally, the list of acceptable activities to do away from home has been expanded slightly. Everyone should continue to practise appropriate social distancing and stay home except for: Shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies Medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements Exercise, including outdoor personal training without shared equipment Training or University study, where remote learning is unavailable Childcare or school Work Non-contact recreational activities such as private picnics in the park, fishing, boating, hiking and camping all in compliance with travel restrictions and the new 10-person rule Home opens and display village openings, with appropriate record keeping and hygiene practices in place, and in compliance with the 10-person rule A maximum of 10 people will be allowed at weddings (an increase from the five person limit), funerals, outdoor personal training (no shared equipment), home opens and display village inspections as part of these changes. The new 10-person rule aligns Western Australia with South Australia. The two-person rule was adopted in WA going further than what was recommended at the time in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. All other restrictions will remain in place for now, and all public playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment to remain closed. These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country and as outlined by National Cabinet restrictions could be in place for six months, but subject to regular review. Thank you again for doing such a great job so far. Although these changes are small, I hope they will help many Western Australians get through this difficult period.
18.01.2022 CEO UPDATE APRIL We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it has brought a sense of hope to our business community. April has been a tough month for ...all, worrying about finances, family and friends' health, and business in general. We have seen the community come together and support one another. We have seen businesses diversify quickly like never before, KBCCI included. KBCCI made history when we held our very first Virtual Business After Hours in the Chamber's 117-year history, keeping our members updated and connected. We heard from Garry Symonds from Stewart Symonds & Partners on the importance of supporting your staff when working from home, and received an update on the Stimulus Packages from KBCCI's Sharni Foulkes. KBCCI were thrilled to partner with KCGM, Northern Star Resources and Saracen to facilitate small business grants up to $10,000 for businesses adversely affected by COVID-19. All staff have been working hard to cushion the impact of COVID-19 and maximise opportunities for Goldfield's businesses in the recovery phase. Staff have also been assisting businesses to navigate their way through the Government Stimulus Packages and providing general business support. Staff have been seeking and applying for grants that will assist more local businesses. In the coming weeks, we will have a number of announcements on how the KBCCI will be able to support your organisation. Thank you to all who have completed our recent surveys on the impact of COVID-19 on your business. These surveys are extremely valuable, as the information and data collected is conveyed to key stakeholders as well as to Local, State and Federal Government representatives, and are used to form actions and influence policy. Follow our Facebook page so you don't miss any important announcements. April 25 saw a number of our members stop to reflect and take part in a very unique ANZAC Day by joining together at the end of their driveways to pay their respects to our ANZAC's. Although this was a very different way of recognition of our ANZAC's, it was very significant. Please, Stay Calm and Stay Connected and Stay Safe, we can see the light!
18.01.2022 CEO Weekly Update Great work everyone on flattening the curve. 15.01.2022 Firstly, great work everyone on smashing the curve! We will get through this together. It has been a busy week for the KBCCI. Staff have been calling our memb...ers and touching base to see how the continually changing effects of COVID-19 are affecting our business community. A number of business owners feel a sense of relief now that the stimulus funding has commenced. Feedback from our discussions and surveys has been passed onto Local, State and Federal Government. This information is important and assists government when planning policies and recovery initiatives for COVID-19. I have also passed the feedback onto our local politicians who can now lobby in our best interest having up to date information on hand. KBCCI has just sent out a Local Survey, seeking further information on the changing effects of COVID-19, please ensure you complete the survey. Staff have also been busy applying for a number of grants that will assist local businesses in a number of areas. Hopefully we have some good news to announce very soon. KBCCI also held our very first Virtual Business After Hours, which was extremely well received. We had Garry Symonds from Stewart Symonds & Partners and Sharni Foulkes, KBCCI Business Adviser presenting on the stimulus packages and supporting staff while they are working from home. Next Wednesday we will be holding a Member Coffee Catch Up, another way for our members to stay connected and informed. Di Rowan owner of Goldfields Physio will be presenting on the importance of staying fit and healthy whilst in isolation and working from home. We have also seen some great collaboration and businesses working together and diversifying. We have seen businesses go online, produce takeaway meals, delivery services, pod casts, apps produced in record time and online gym classes take place. Some great initiatives that should be recognised. Please continue to check up on one another, stay informed and stay connected. If anyone needs any advice on the Stimulus Packages please do not hesitate to contact the KBCCI. I hope you all have a break this long weekend and celebrate ANZAC Day.

03.01.2022 COVID-19 has been devastating for WA tourism - with thousands of small businesses impacted all around the State. It has been a tough few months, and it's going... to be a long road back. As restrictions start to ease, our tourism industry can now start charting their way forward and get back to business. Today, we've announced a new grants package to help them on this journey with two new funding programs. This new funding package will help small tourism operators adjust and adapt their businesses away from targeting the international and interstate market and towards Western Australians. Firstly, we'll be providing $10.4 million in one-off cash grants for up to 1,600 individual small businesses around the State. The $6,500 grants will provide immediate support to eligible tourism operators with annual taxable wages of less than $1 million, including accommodation, attraction, tour and transport businesses. This will include micro-tourism businesses, such as sole traders and businesses with four or less employees. The second, $4 million Tourism Business Survival Grants package will be available for tourism operators dealing with exceptionally difficult circumstances - with grants of $25,000-$100,000 available. The Survival Grants will target businesses located in parts of the State with more restrictive travel bans in place, or whose circumstances otherwise mean they will face a more difficult road to recovery. Businesses which deliver iconic experiences are also eligible to apply. These grants are in addition to other State Government assistance packages which have been announced in the last few weeks, including payroll tax waivers to eligible small-to-medium sized business, one-off electricity credit and waiver of business licenses fees. With the easing of regional travel restrictions it is anticipated thousands of Western Australians will be looking to travel around WA this year - and we want as many local businesses as possible benefiting from these opportunities. More information on the Tourism Recovery Fund and the online application form can be found on Tourism WA’s corporate website at: http://www.tourism.wa.gov.au/WATourismRecoveryProgram More information on the Tourism Business Survival Grants package, including how businesses can apply, will be released shortly.
