10.01.2022 Friday 19th March is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is an important day to mark Australian school communities standing together against bullying and violence. Schools are aware of the potential harmful effects of bullying, including online bullying (cyberbullying) on young people and take reports of bullying seriously.... While all Australian school communities are different and each student's circumstances are individual, there are some general actions schools take to address bullying. The primary aim of the school's response is to restore a positive learning environment for all students. Positive responses are based on the understanding that children and young people are in the process of learning how to be a member of the school and wider community. Join us on Friday 19 March 2021 and help create positive change for students, staff, and the school climate.

05.01.2022 Tomorrow is National Close the Gap Day please get involved! National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD) is an annual awareness event that aims to close the health and ...life expectancy gap between the indigenous and the non-indigenous communities in Australia. What is Closing the Gap? The 2020 National Agreement on Closing the Gap (National Agreement) is a strategy that aims to improve the life outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. National Close the Gap Day (NCTGD) is a national day of action to pledge support for achieving Indigenous health equality by 2030. Over 250,000 people have participated in National Close the Gap Day events right across the country. NCTGD is usually held on the third Thursday in March. It was first observed in 2007 as a joint venture between Australia's top public and health organizations. Olympic sprinter Cathy Freeman and swimmer Ian Thorpe launched the campaign from the Olympic Stadium in Sydney. Unequal Health Outcomes. The campaign was a response to the poor health outcomes among indigenous groups in Australia. Studies have shown that the life expectancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is 10-17 years lower than that of non-Indigenous Australians. The main aim of National Close the Gap Day is to make people from both indigenous and non-indigenous backgrounds aware of this problem and work towards finding ways to solve it. A Human Rights Issue. High life expectancy is not just a health issue, but it is also a human rights issue. Poverty, education, and employment levels all have a long-lasting impact on the health of a community. The Close the Gap campaign recognizes this and emphasizes that closing the gap in early childhood development, schooling, housing, and employment is the key to also closing the health gap. What Happens on National Close the Gap Day? National Close the Gap Day is not an official holiday, so businesses, schools, and government offices are open. Community health groups, educators, medical professionals, and policy-makers organize outreach drives, conferences, and workshops to bring attention to the problem of low life expectancy among indigenous groups. For more information please visit: https://antar.org.au/campaigns/national-close-gap-day

02.01.2022 This week is Transgender awareness week! WHAT IS TRANSGENDER AWARENESS WEEK? Transgender Awareness Week runs between the 13-19 November. This week is an important time in the LGBTIQ+ calendar because it raises the visibility of trans people around the world. ... During this time, allies and organisations around the country, and the world, participate in Transgender Awareness Week (also called Trans Awareness Week) to help raise awareness by amplifying the voices and experiences of transgender people to the wider community. The week is about bringing attention to issues of prejudice, discrimination and violence that affect trans and gender diverse people. More importantly it is also about celebrating the trans community, sharing their stories and taking action to educate everyone about who transgender people are. The week culminates with Trans Day of Remembrance on 20 November. WHAT IS TRANS DAY OF REMEMBRANCE (TDOR)? Trans Day of Remembrance is an annual observance on November 20 that honours the memory of the trans lives lost to acts of transphobia and discrimination. TDOR was founded by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour her memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence that year and began an important memorial that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. TDOR is a day of gathering, togetherness, and community solidarity. We remember those we've lost, celebrate our strength in the face of adversity, and commit to fighting transphobia to create a safe and inclusive world for everyone.
