24.01.2022 Explorers needed for rare 'hot spots' of mineral deposits Evidence suggests some of the world’s most in-demand minerals may be sitting together in a rare miner...al hot spot, providing another opportunity for resource investment in Queensland. The Department of Natural Resources and Mines’ Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ), in collaboration with University of Queensland Emeritus Professor Ken Collerson, undertook a range of surveys in the remote region which uncovered evidence of a belt of extremely rare geological pipe structures. The type of minerals found in the geological pipes were in high demand around the world, particularly in the development of cutting edge technology. Initial surveys indicate that the remote area of western Queensland may be rich in mineral deposits containing platinum, gold and silver as well as rare minerals. The field work for this once in a life time discovery was made possible through GSQ’s Industry Priorities Initiative, with sampling and positive confirmation of results enabled by drill core samples acquired under the Queensland Government’s Collaborative Drilling Initiative. Exploration companies will be given a geological briefing on the potential at an exploration forum happening in Mount Isa this month. Invited attendees include the 47 exploration companies who have been involved in the North West Mineral Province Taskforce. The structures sit southwest of the North West Minerals Province, stretching in a broad belt from far-northern New South Wales, across a remote section of Queensland, and into the north-eastern Northern Territory. The rare phoscorite pipes originate from very deep within the earth, where pulses of mineral rich material are forced to the earth’s crust from 'hot spots' as part of the process of heat release and cooling of the earth. Phoscorite pipes have previously only ever been found in South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Finland. GSQ Chief Government Geologist Tony Knight said the pipes found in Queensland could be as large as 3 - 6 km in diameter each an extremely rare and very exciting discovery. Beyond the potential economic boost for Queensland, the discovery brings a new understanding of mineral potential in the previously under-explored area and for a geologist this is very exciting, Mr Knight said. Exploration companies interested in taking this discovery to the next step have full access to the significant geological groundwork that GSQ and UQ have undertaken as part of the survey work. The full suite of minerals that are potentially enriched in these bodies, include scandium, cobalt, nickel, copper, light and heavy rare earth elements, yttrium, niobium, hafnium, zirconium, tantalum, phosphorus, silver, gold and platinum group elements, as well as potential for diamonds. The discovery, loosely being referred to as the Diamantina Minerals Provence, covers an area 2010 km long. At its southern end, the area is marked by the copper, gold and platinum-rich Fifield area. At its northern end lies the Merlin diamond mine, where one of Australia’s largest diamonds was discovered.

04.01.2022 Gidday members. I've just been advised, that a Minelab GPZ 7000 has been stolen from EE Day & Son, Ballarat, this morning. The lowlife, took off with it, running out of the store and in the process, broke the lower shaft of the detector and also left behind, the WM12 wireless module. So if anyone sees or hears about a shady character asking for the lower shaft and module on Face Book or prospecting forum sites, please contact Mark Day immediately.

03.01.2022 There's Gold and its haunting and haunting It's luring me on as of old, Yet it isn't the gold that I'm wanting So much as just finding the Gold. It's that great, big, broad land way up yonder ... It's the forests where silence has lease; It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder. It's the stillness that fills me with peace.
