17.01.2022 Meme Mondays! Seriously though, do your exercises!

16.01.2022 Think that your pain is due to "old age"? Here you can see how even at 70, exercise can help to retain that good muscle mass we need to maintain good function. Comparing it to a similar aged person living a sedentary lifestyle, you could see why pain and musculoskeletal issues could arise. A good message that no matter what stage in life you're at, exercise can and will keep you going!

16.01.2022 GSP COVID-19 Update In line government advice, all our Gold Standard Physiotherapy clinics remain open as usual. 16.01.2022 Ever wondered why you get so sore after your exercises? Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is the pain and soreness felt after strenuous exercise. It's usually felt 24-72 hours after the exercise session is done. The mechanism thought to be causing the pain is the microtraumas in the muscle fiber that occur after an eccentric (or lengthening) exercise. Common ways to help with DOMS are a cool down such as going for a run, ice packs/baths and/or contrast baths. ... Now you know not to be too worried if you're sore after a treatment session!

15.01.2022 Great awareness for exercise! Spread the word guys!!! #motionislotion #exerciseismedicine

15.01.2022 How amazing is that! A 16 year old injured her left knee during a netball game and a subsequent MRI revealed a completely ruptured ACL and partial tear to her MCL. She was booked for surgery to have a total knee reconstruction. Her surgery was delayed a few times due to sickness and school exams, until eventually it was cancelled altogether.... In the meantime she was attending physiotherapy to regain her ROM, strength and coordination! She soon found herself to be pain free and had improved her strength, returned to running and passed all of her single leg hop tests! At just 9 weeks post injury she returned to netball and finished off the rest of her season! An MRI 6 months later showed that the ACL had begun healing itself! Crazy to see (admittedly in rare cases like this) just how much the body can overcome!

03.01.2022 The Carpal Tunnel! Ever wondered why you get that pain and numbness into the hand? Have a look how crowded it is in the carpal tunnel! Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed on. This can occur due to multiple factors, but usually comes down to something in the tunnel compressing on it, whether it be fluid or thickened tendons.... Treatment usually focusses on trying to get that median nerve gliding smoothly through the tunnel again. Do you have carpal tunnel syndrome? Come see one of our physios today to start your recovery!
