24.01.2022 The customer hasn’t long received his tank for a 1973 Honda CR250 Elsinor, yes it’s nice and shiny and should be a matt finish but thats what the customer ordered. It arrived in quite poor condition with some very deep gouges and several holes in the polished sides that had to be carefully welded up and dressed back for polishing. Its was all beated back to it’s original shape and completely file finished including the weld repairs. It was then polished, prepared , primed and coloured with the pinstripes and decals added and the lot cleared over for the beautiful flat finish off the gun.

24.01.2022 Machines,, there such a wonderful thing.

24.01.2022 The 500 Goldstar restoration is finally done, it was completed last night around 11pm and just in time for the bike show at Greta today thats organised by the Coalfields club and what a top day it turned out to be, the added bonus was the Goldie taking home the trophy for bike of the show which was great. This was a very meticulous restoration with nothing being overlooked and only the correct parts being used, many were new old stock including the GP2 carburettor and float c...hamber. The aluminium engine castings were vapor blasted before being rebuilt and assembled with a balanced crank and a new Carillo con rod, the barrel was bored to +20 and the head having new inserts, guides and new valves fitted. The gearbox is the original close ratio RRT2 completely rebuilt and coupled up to a 4 spring clutch. The wiring harness was made and cotton braided, it fits and looks perfect. The bike still needs fine tuning it starts first kick every time having a nice strong magnito and is music to your ears. Sitting next to it there is a very low numbered unrestored Rocket Goldstar of my dads that he imported from England in 1984, it’s been well maintained over the years, it’s had the engine and gearbox rebuild etc but its a bike regularly ridden and show’s some patina which is beautiful. 20.01.2022 An early steel tank off a Suzuki RMS125 finished and back to the owner a little while ago. It came in, in quiet a beaten up way and required the bottoms to be completely removed to straighten it out. It had a ton of dried up rust and mud inside which needed blasting out. The tank was completely repaired and file finished before being prepared for colour. Our own manufactured decals were applied and the lot cleared over for a beautiful flat finish off the gun.

20.01.2022 Here’s a very knocked around Honda 250 Elsinor aluminium tank i repaired for a customer. This tank had an extremely rough life before we gave it the TLC treatment it deserved. This tank had some horrible previous repairs and countless leaks where someone had tried to repair them with an epoxy type glue like Araldite which was smeared over the underside and between the rear bracket which was also crack, broken and well out of alignment. The bracket was carefully removed to s...tart with and tank blasted to try-and remove this horrible stuff so I could commence the repair but unfortunately the blasting couldn’t budge a lot of it. The bottoms were removed to allow us access, and the dents were beaten out and the tank bought back to its original shape and completely file finished, the front mounting lug holes repaired as were the threads for the fuel tap fitting along with a section i had to remove and replace as a section of the seam was missing. After many hours on the hammer and dolly the bottoms were replaced and she was tested for leaks before sending back to the owner. See more

20.01.2022 I’m quite excited to post the restoration of this steel tank off an M21 BSA, it was completed a few months ago as covid hit. It finished off absolutely perfectly and was truly testing my patience but the final result was well worth it. It was brutally beaten and modified in the early days with a large Ball Pein hammer, I’d say the idea was to allow added room for the rider to tuck his arms, chin and elbows into for racing purposes. To start with we had to blast it to remove t...he paint and bog, which revealed some original chrome and nickle which also had to be stripped be the repair could commence. I removed the bottoms sections to allow access to the inside of the tank so the dents could be beaten and removed. I measured the large dents on the sides of the tank from the outside using a Tech drawing plasti-guage rule which revealed these dents were just over 80mm deep and near the length of the tank and just on 55mm deep on the top section. After many many hours the whole tank was beaten back to its original shape and completely file finished for chrome. The bottom sections were then repaired and all dressed up nicely and fitted back into the tank and completely flame welded before being tested for leaks and then off to the chromer so he could do his part. On its return the chrome was prepared for primer then paint. The customer liked the black with the gold colour pattern and all was finished off with a few nice wet coats of clear. See more

17.01.2022 An early Honda CR80 tank completely file finished. It came in a little while ago quiet beaten up and quiet rusty internally, a section of the bottom was removed to allow access for the repair, it had to be sandblasted internally prior to clean it up. After quiet a few hours we had our original shape shape back and ready to replace the bottom section. After being completely file finished it was prepared for primer and colour. After our colour was applied it was blocked flat, decals applied and finished off with a couple of nice wet coats of clear.

16.01.2022 A 1984 Honda CR500 frame saved from the scrap pile. A customer bought it in a while ago hoping we could save it for him as he couldn’t find a good replacement. The frame rails were very ordinary with little to no thickness left in then so they had to be removed and new replacements made and fitted into place. There were a lot of previous repairs that were done in a way that made some areas quiet difficult to repair, as many fittings had to be removed and replaced due to brok...en and snapped bolts with bodgy oversized threads, cracks in the frame etc. We machined up a number of new parts and fittings and Tig welded them all into place as originally fitted. The original foot peg mounts were removed and brand new items modified and fitted so they’d operated and look as originally intended. After hours on the lathe and Tig the frame was sent to be reblasted so it could be prepared for colour. It was primed and coloured in its factory red 2k. This will be quiet a special build as the customer is fitting it out with a Titanium bolt kit, a new factory aluminium swinging arm and a lot of new old stock parts. See more

13.01.2022 A very lucky customer will take delivery of his brand new fuel tank in the next couple of days for his 1937 BSA single. It’s been quite a hard road for the owner as the original tank (also pictured) was destroyed several years ago by a previous repairer and unfortunately couldn’t be saved. The owner assigned me to build another tank as he had no luck sourcing a replacement, however i did have a doner tank to start with but wasn’t the correct in the shape around the rear area ...and the bottoms were completely different. I started by dechroming the replacement tank then removed the complete bottom including the tunnel where it sat in the frame, these has to be disguatded and new sections made to suit. The fuel cap fitting also had to be remade as the original was distorted and had pulled out of shape due to the amount of heat from previous repairs. Our replacement tank was pretty knocked around and was beaten back into shape then the new fittings put into place and completely file finished. We also had to machine up replacement fittings fo mount the hand gear change to the side of the side of the tank. After all the repair work was completed and the tank tested for leaks it was off to the chromers to make it look pretty. The chrome was then prepped for primer, paint, pinstripes and decals and the lot cleaned over to finish it all off. It will be great to see this pretty little number ripping up the road in the near future. See more

13.01.2022 Now here’s some great news.

12.01.2022 A lucky customer has just received his Nice shiny tank and side covers of his 1966 Bsa Lightening. The parts arrived in their typical used state with the usual dents along with cracks and fractures in the fibreglass side covers. The tank was dechromed before being opened up and the side covers Vapor blasted for repair. The tank was beaten back into shape and file finished very nicely for chrome plating, the Fibreglass covers were repaired along with approximately 100 pinholes in each cover. The chrome was masked off and prepared for the 3 layer Candy Apple red and gold pinstripe and finished off with a few nice wet coats of clear.

11.01.2022 Another aluminium tank just finished it’s off a 76 Suzuki RM125. It arrived in quiet a poor state as they usually do along with an alloy RM250b tank (posted earlier). The bottoms were removed so the tank could be beaten and planished back into shape and completely file finished. Around the top area at the front had some horrible repairs that needed a fair bit of love and again it was repaired and file finished. The yellow was matched to the Vintage Suzuki plastics before havi...ng a set of Works replica decals made for it, these took a fair bit of time and patience to draw up along the customers assistance as we had nothing to go by, but the final result was well worth it and look absolutely spot on. The decals were applied and the lot cleared over for the finished product. See more

06.01.2022 Just finished machining up and polishing a couple of sets of Suzuki RM250 fork tubes. Like all upside down forks they suffer from damage and corrosion which gets under the anodising and etchs away the parent material, but unfortunately not all tubes can be saved or repaired as corrosion can basically eat the entire aluminium away, but these couple of sets were quiet repairable which was the news the customer wanted to hear.

05.01.2022 Just finished the rebuild on this genuine BSA Goldstar tank for our project bike which isn’t to far away now. It was the perfect tank to start with as it is the real deal and hadn’t really been played with except the dodgy weld around the hold down bolt fitting, it was quite knocked around but still a great start. Under that grey primer was the original chrome which had to be removed, the bottoms were then taken out to allow access for the repairs. A section on the top was r...emoved and a new piece made up and flame welded into place and file finished, the sides and remainder of the job were beaten back to its original shape and patiently finished off for chrome plating. The bottoms were then replaced and the tank was tested for leaks and then off to the chromer for his magic. On return the chrome was prepared for primer and paint with its pin striping and a couple of nice wet coats of clear to finish it all off. The badges, cap and other hardware have been fitted and it now waits patiently for the bike which will finish off this 1 beautiful restoration. See more

04.01.2022 Gee these annual events roll around quickly, I can’t believe this 1 is just about on us again. It’s organised by great club and a Is a top day out, may even take the latest Goldstar restoration project out there.

04.01.2022 We’ve not long finished a couple of early Honda CR125 Elsinor steel tanks, a green strip for the 74 & a red stripe for the 75. Both tanks we’re blasted to start with, and a small section underneath removed to allow access for our repairs. They were completely beaten and planished back to their original shape and file finished before being polished only for photographic purposes. The under sections were replaced and Tig welded, then tested for leaks. The tanks were prepared fo...r primer and paint, with our own Honda wings & clear warning decals fitted and the lot cleared over for the finish as pictured. At the moment in the que we have another 7 aluminium tanks for the 1973 CR250 Elsinor, stay tuned as our next post will be 1 of those that required some major surgery to save it. See more

03.01.2022 This customer hasn’t long received this tank for his Suzuki RM125 restoration. This was a tank we supplied as his original plastic tank was far beyond repair so an aluminium tank was retro fitted in it place and looks right at home. The tank was already cut open when I originally purchased it, the previous owner had it earmarked for a British scrambler, something like a BSA or Triumph project hence the additional holes cut in it. The job was Vapor blasted prior to being repai...red, and was completely file finished, the pieces we added in the rear and the top section were butt welded into place with a new tag being made and fitted for the rear hold down strap. A replacement fuel tap fitting had to be machined up and welded in as the original thread was completely stripped, the bottoms were then refitted and tested for leaks. The tank was prepared and painted with the colour being matched to new Vintage Suzuki plastics, the decals were fitted and finished of with a couple of nice wet coats of clear. See more

02.01.2022 I love the Crystal Silver colour pattern on these big Yamaha tanks. I finished this 1 not long ago after a lot of TLC was required. It had suffered a pretty hard life especially on the left hand side, but after many hours work and plenty of patience it filed up and finished off perfectly. The tank was then polished and checked for any imperfections before the bottoms were refitted and welded back in and then tested for leaks. It was prepared, primed and coloured with our own decals before being clear coated all over and finished off with a couple of nice wet coats.

02.01.2022 The latest update on our Goldstar restoration and starting to look the goods. All the painted parts were blasted and repaired as needed, the toolbox and oil tank have had the decals fitted and cleared over, the swinging arm has new silent blocks and pivot pin fitted. The original mudguards and stays have been dechromed, repaired , rechromed and fitted, the forks have had brand new hard chromed stauntions, bushes and seals and fitted up to the bike along with the wheels and br...akes. The close ratio RRT2 gearbox stripped and rebuilt and is sitting in place very nicely. A new wiring harness in the correct colours has been made, cotton braided and awaiting fitment. Next update we’ll see the engine, clutch and chaincase fitted and nearing completion. See more

02.01.2022 We just finished a beautiful pair of original XT500 rims for a customer. They arrived in a very used condition, so we pressed the flat spots out and machined them to remove any previous damage from tyre levers etc before polishing them up to a mirror finish but still leaving the original stampings. The hubs and backing plates were blasted and powder coated satin black and rebuild with stainless spoke sets, bearings and seals and finished off with a nice set of Pirelli tyres.
