25.01.2022 Attention all members and social players. At the Board Meeting on Wednesday night, it was decided to adopt one of the new local rules designed to speed up play. Summary as follows; Rule E-5 Alternative to Stroke and Distance for Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds... Purpose. When a provisional ball has not been played, significant issues with pace of play can result for a player needing to take stroke-and-distance relief for a ball that is out of bounds or cannot be found. The purpose of this Local Rule is to allow a Committee to provide an extra relief option that allows a player to play on without returning to the location of the previous stroke. This option allows the player to drop in a large area between the point where the ball is estimated to have come to rest or gone out of bounds and the edge of the fairway of the hole being played that is not nearer the hole. The player gets two penalty strokes when using this relief option. This means that the relief is comparable to what could have been achieved if the player had taken stroke-and-distance relief. This Local Rule cannot be used for an unplayable ball, or for a ball that is known or virtually certain to be in a penalty area. If a provisional ball is played and neither the original ball nor the provisional ball can be found, then the Local Rule may (also) be applied for the provisional ball that cannot be found. So a simple example of the new rule is if your playing hole 3 and you hit one into the old nursery you can drop a ball as per above and you will be hitting your 4th shot. NOTE: This Local Rule will come into force on Saturday the 8 May 2021. More information can be found on the USGA website.

A list of qualifiers has been published and there is an overflow for those who missed out. To add atmosphere to the grand final Jason and Jenna have brought 2 of their magnificent tractors down and they are currently parked near the 17th tee. More equipment will be on display tomorrow. So if you can please nominate for tomorrow or attend presentation to honour Jason and Jenna. Cheers Pete from PR

17.01.2022 Members may recall earlier this year we applied for a grant with the Central Highlands Regional Council's - Community Improvement Category. Our application for funding of a "Children's Playground Project" was approved. The playground is currently under construction behind the clubhouse on the southern side by members in their own time. When completed it will create a new space for families. Also under our Covid-19 plan you can no longer enter the pro shop from inside the clubhouse. Yes I agree it maybe an inconvenience but it is a requirement from statutory authorities to be Covid-19 compliant. The good news is that Lauren and her offsider Matt have moved the fridge and now have more stock on display. Drop in and check it out. Cheers Pete from PR

13.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone. I am watching the Masters from the comfort of my recliner and note a few things. Not the same atmosphere as pre covid days, different course to last November and some of the greens look very patchy in colour. But they are still lighting fast and I wonder what score I would have. In today's Highlands Leader are numerous photos from the CQ pet rescue charity golf day and my normal golf report. Please pick up your copy as the paper is keen to work with us ...and i put a lot of time and effort into my column. Apologies to Doug Gray as a photo of him receiving the Wednesday sporters club trophy from Keith McDonell is not correctly recorded. Live music, raffles, great food and friendship on offer at the club tonight. Then tomorrow it's round 6 of the Farm and Construction Products Saturday series a single vss and Sunday a single stableford. Enjoy your day. Cheers Pete from PR See more

12.01.2022 I cannot fathom why people destroy the property of others. In this case ploughing up a local golf course. I feel for this volunteer who is looking at his dedication and hard work destroyed before his eyes. Cheers Pete from PR

07.01.2022 Unfortunately my golf report did not make it into this week's edition of the Highlands Leader but that's okay. This is what I emailed on Monday evening. Wednesday club 18/11/20 On Wednesday afternoon 23 members teed off in the Wednesday club monthly medal proudly sponsored by the Wednesday club. The very worthy winner was Mick Stanton on 28 points. Runner up was Roy Druwitt on 26 points on a countback from Kent Neasey. Pinshots on 10 and 15 were won by Grant Armour, 12 by To...ota Kendrick and 17 by Steve Dowling. A minutes silence was observed for the sad passing of Mrs Gail Harmer the much loved wife of our member Reg Harmer. RIP Mrs Harmer. The Wednesday club break up is on 5 December. Members Saturday 21/11/20 On Saturday a small field of 16 members teed off in round 5 of the Farm and Construction series proudly sponsored by Jason and Jenna Mihill. The winner on plus 3 was Keith McDonell who had a brilliant round of 68 2 under par. He was closely followed by Noel Rogers who had plus 2. Members Sunday 22/11/20 It was another warm and windy day but it did not stop 40 members teeing off in the annual men's and women's foursomes championships over 27 holes. It’s the last honour board event for 2020. The foursomes is where you have alternating shots with your partner. It can make grown men cry and test the strongest friendships. The winners of the men's championship was Matt Youd and his son Noah Reiter-Youd in a thrilling play off from Darcy Hagan and Ryan Aspinall on 114 gross. Daria Wills and Trudy Morgan won the women's championship. (Photos attached.) Thanks again to VLI Conveyors for their sponsorship and Customer Service Manager Damo Serotzki for attending the presentations. Next Saturday is round 6 of the Farm and Construction series and is a 4BBB. Sunday is the monthly medal proudly sponsored by Central Highlands Golf Carts. Cheers Pete

07.01.2022 The Wednesday sporters club is on tomorrow and the course is looking magnificent after the recent rain and work by our staff Jared, Dave and John. As this is a new season membership fees of $10.00 is now payable. Why not buy a shirt from the pro shop for $40.00. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sporters club founded by my late father in 1971. On behalf of my family I will donate a trophy and the winners name and score each week will be engraved on it. The trophy w...ill remain in the clubhouse. So please come and play if you can. Your name may be recorded on the trophy that will be part of the clubs history. Cheers Pete from PR

06.01.2022 Sorry for the delay with yesterday's results but our Rotary night markets needed a train driver and I answered the call. The winner of Division 1 of the grand final of the Farm and Construction series for 2020 was Wayne Miller on a countback from Keith McDonell both on 35 points. The winner of Division 2 was Ben Jaensch on 36 points and runner up was another great supporter of the club Pete Eversham. Look at the prizes! Golf bags and golf shoes. That is the beauty of having... fabulous sponsors like Jason and Jenna Mihill who incidental don't play golf - yet. The overflow was won by Peter Gibbs on a countback from Toota Kendrick on 36 points. What about Keith McDonell an eagle 3 on hole 6. He had a 1 metre putt for eagle. Special mention of Kerry McAtee winning the club pin on hole 17. Its a single stroke today plenty of spots. Cheers Pete from PR See more

05.01.2022 Members will recall that in March 2019 our great friend and member Darren 'Dazza' McMicking was tragically taken from his family, friends and our club. At the request of his wife Michelle a bench seat was donated along with a plaque. We thank Jared and Dave for assembling the seat and placing it on the 15th tee today. Dazza won many pinshots on this hole. So please sit on the seat and reflect on a life cut short. The supplied photo of Dazza was taken about 4 years ago on the course. RIP Dazza. Cheers Pete from PR

05.01.2022 Good morning all from the pro shop. I am advised that Norm Bull sadly passed away Thursday night. Norm was employed by ICI explosives and Orica as Area Manager for them. He was here from the mid 1980's until the late 90's. Although he did not play golf he was a very proud member, served on the committee and patronised the club very well. For those who knew Norm you are welcome to leave a tribute. RIP Norm. Cheers Pete from PR.

04.01.2022 This afternoon a good field teed off in the Wednesday club. The winner on 27 stableford points was Kent Neasey. Another par round of 35. The runners up was terrific Tony Ronnfeldt on 26 points. Pinshots won on 10 by Tony Caffrey, 12 by Beau Barraclough, 15 by the birthday boy Pete Bailey and 17 by Mick Stanton. A great shot and he made the putt for a birdie. Don't forget the break up party on 5 December for Wednesday club members and partners. Its free to attend in recognition of your support to the club over the past 12 months. In addition the funeral for Mrs Gail Harmer the much loved wife of our Reg is on at 10am at the Emerald Uniting Church. The wake is at the club. It would be a lovely gesture if Wednesday club members could wear their club shirts as a mark of respect. Cheers Pete from PR

04.01.2022 Its been reported that golf balls have been hit in the direction of staff and volunteers as they are working on the course. Whether by accident or design is not known. Beside the first tee is the sign below. The club owes a duty of care to our staff and volunteers and we cannot discharge that legal obligation when golf balls are flying past a mower or other vehicle. Remember the operator cannot hear you over the noise of the motor or earmuffs. So be patient and wait for the mower to stop and to be waved through. I can assure you the next ball to hit a mower I am driving will not be playable again and you will/may be asked to leave the course. Cheers Pete from PR

03.01.2022 The Masters coverage will soon be over this morning so come on down for a game in the comp or socially. Plenty of spots in the Farm and Construction Products Saturday series. Its a single Vss. If you do play this is the view from the 12th tee. Our greenkeeper Dave Terrey and a number of volunteers have created this view and all tees, fairways, greens and rough have been mowed. So come and play to show your appreciation of our fabulous sponsors Jason and Jenna Mihill, Dave and the volunteers. Good luck to our team at the Volkswagen Scramble in Yeppoon. Cheers Pete from PR

02.01.2022 Well folks still light rain falling at the club. Beautiful to watch the water flowing on the course. As the course is closed I have also closed the pro shop and going home. More updates this afternoon. Cheers Pete from PR

02.01.2022 Results from yesterday's foursomes championships. Congratulations to all winners. Look at the amazing $ amounts. By having great sponsors like VLI Conveyors on board we hope it will encourage existing and new members to play. Cheers Pete from PR

01.01.2022 As reported earlier a bench seat in memory of our great friend and member Darren (Dazza) McMicking has been place on the 15th tee. Today I had the honour of accompanying his wife Michelle, oldest daughter Danielle and baby and his great mate Peter Gibbs to view the seat. Michelle said she was very happy with the seat and plaque and wanted to thank the club for agreeing to her request to have a memorial. She particularly wanted to thank Jared Armitage, Dave Terrey and volunteer John for assembling the seat and placing it in a wonderful and fitting location. RIP Dazza. (Photos published with approval). Cheers Pete from PR and

01.01.2022 As the end of 2020 approaches, we would like to wish our Members all the very best for a happy & prosperous New Year in 2021. Stay safe & drop in for a drink today with your mates.. See you at the Club!
