24.01.2022 Oh that looks like fun, bit of a problem in Australia as we seem to be running out of water

21.01.2022 Three years ago today Sue Taylor pulled over on the Hume Hwy South bound, just prior to the Wallen Hil truck stop. Two years ago she did it again, same date, but about 100 meters closer to Melb (I was getting faster on my splits), but this time she donated half a cup of drive through, cold black Maccas coffee - tasted like pure gold

21.01.2022 Just look at what the great man was riding If you like these old B&W photos pop over to the FB page 'Dust & Climbs'

20.01.2022 Breaking in new Giro cycling shoes, always this heel

19.01.2022 Looks like a Zep day for tomorrows 300 Warrnambool to Melb - it's also the route of the 2nd oldest bicycle race in the World Testing Gabba v Pafetto v Shakedry

19.01.2022 40+ degrees C tomorrow (104+ F) so I was going to ride to Warrnambool tonight, however the Falls music festival (Princes Hwy, West) has been cancelled and thus Id be sharing 260 Kms of road with folks who were packing for 3 to 4 days but will be consuming all of their chemical feel good, goods in 36 hrs. The last testing done locally showed around 3/4 of festival attendees required chemical assistance to have a good time, so Im giving it a miss

19.01.2022 Nice to make the right call for once

18.01.2022 Oh man - imagine a spread that tastes like the biscuit crumb base of a cheese cake

18.01.2022 Self sealing, tubless tyres. I pulled this out of the rear tyre wall this morning. Its wire from a blown truck tyre. These fine wire trapped air liberators would give me an average 1.5 flats per day. Tubeless sooooo, much better for so little initial extra work. Photo taken of partially encased wire in rubber placed on saddle for a backdrop.

18.01.2022 Overnight 30C/87F THE predominate wind pattern to affect Melbourne, see pics 1 & 2. The second most prevalent wind goes in reverse direction, with the third being the Westerly's we are having today, great riding from Warrnambool back to Melb, unusually without the heavy rain Westerly's normally entail - pic 3.

17.01.2022 I ride the safest, fastest roads, Freeway/Highways - they always have an emergency breakdown lane that doubles as a 12 foot wide bike lane. However, you need to be aware that other traffic, Trucks in particular have blind spots. The video below shows from a Driver's perspective what he can see, even if there is a defined bike lane 12.15 to 12.45. The Ad below for bike lights is just awful, awful, awful. https://youtu.be/dThT-4UlSDU

17.01.2022 When the air gets chewy

16.01.2022 Ive just contacted Guinnesss Verification body the WUCA, to notify them formally of my withdrawal from the HAMR, HMMR & 100,000 mile records attempts due to my blow achilles. I can ride, even if at a lower power output, but cant walk on it, push off or sort mechanicals/flats, so Im a danger to other road users and myself. Very annoying as I strained it the week prior to setting off, it was totally avoidable.

16.01.2022 Highly recommend Castelli Inferno Bibs, Jersey, UV arm & leg protectors . Wahoo says 45C/113F Friends say I am Crazy - Jam Hot -

16.01.2022 Physio, heat & heated rollers, TENS, compression and light exercise - leads to broken skin but healing of the tendon sheath is progressing

14.01.2022 Now what? Guinness require 12 weeks notice, prior to starting a record attempt or to establish/set a new record. You can do this with less leadtime to a start date, down to 5 days (from memory), but it then costs $1,000 Aus, per Record & you can only submit 3 events per day so it 12 weeks plus the number of events/records, divided by 3. So when to start the process off, predicting recovery, right now is impossible, never had an injury like this before. Gojng out again AS...AP means I ride through a compleat winter rather than splitting it in half at the start and end when you are feeling your strongest. The most annoying part is not collecting the Monthly record on World Polio Day. One of the Charities I was riding for. Back to the spread sheets - again . Im going to uninstall and reinstall FB later today, as advised to kill the posting problems Ive had. So if I disappear...... See more

14.01.2022 This is why I ride with cameras F&R front camera footage here - https://youtu.be/LVZjrCVSABA

11.01.2022 Pulled the plug on all rides over Xmas and new year. Fires 1,000 Kms away to the north (an area the size of Wales in the UK or New Jersey, State, USA have been burnt out) have put so much smoke into the air that despite the prevailing winds being Southerly (pushing the smoke away) the air quality is still bad - not the stuff you want to be pulling deep into your lungs. Good lick to the many volunteer fire fighters keeping people safe in these horrendous conditions.

10.01.2022 Only managed three decent rides this week as smoke particulates from the fires are still hanging about - see the link (very much a 1st World/CBD problem as the fires continue), but all three were done in the rain from South Easterlys before the smoke from either SA or Tasmania arrived. Very impressed with chain lube squirt especially after doing the Lillydale to Warburton Rail Trail (not paved but very fine crushed limestone, which in the rain, becomes a grinding paste for chains, etc). https://youtu.be/Z5TqD5xf0ic

10.01.2022 Bugger As always at dusk, raining, post livestock slurry delivered by truck going 100 kmph - nails all over the Hume Hwy in two dumps of around 750 and 200 - debris from two truck tyres just before where a single veichel accident occurred a couple of weeks back - VicRoads, you're inaction is a disgrace & dangerous to the public you are supposed to look after almost 1,000 7cm nails on THE Hwy linking our two largest city's.

09.01.2022 Patch up your body chemistry (if not the holes in your cycling jerseys with a dose of hot iron) no one ever drowned in sweat stay isolated & hydrated

09.01.2022 And this is how you stuff up your achilles the week before you set off on the HAMR - so you have no one to blame but yourself, the 35 kg bike and the 800 Kms into a 30 kmph headwind over two days.

09.01.2022 Strong language warning, NSFW.

08.01.2022 Just stretching that achilles after lots of heat/cold treatments plus massage - so annoying I cant blame anyone but myself

08.01.2022 Bit wet, new take on keeping your head & spirits down

07.01.2022 First day back on the bike, testing out the bung leg. Ive got, back up & they are on a Vivente with full Ortleb pannier set up so Ill be able to do a compleate build, frame & all, if necessary Bendigo to Ballarat to Geelong, its all down hill, on the map . Told my riding buddy they have to take off their Halloween mask, she said she wasnt wearing one

07.01.2022 Oh yes.... McLovin this https://youtu.be/-NoLJ_gaamk

06.01.2022 Warrny to Melb - bit of a tail wind

05.01.2022 Warburton Lake Mountain. Lovely day for a ride organised by our Dave Harrington with help from Liz, Gavin, Miles and wee Ron McInnes. Cool to coolish would desc...ribe the weather with Audax cyclists going all over the hills and even braving Donna Buang as well. Congratulations to all the finishers and especially those who rode this for the first time and those who succumbed previously to the weather or other ailments. Food a plenty for the finishers with Gav the chef working his hotplate magic and heaps of finger food to satisfy all but the really fussy eaters. Big thanks to all the supporters for a great day out.

04.01.2022 Slow and steady post lockdown build up
