24.01.2022 WARNING ALL DOG OWNERS WALKING/SWIMMING THEIR PETS ON OUR BEACHES It has been confirmed by NPWS today that there are algal blooms currently occurring just off ...our beaches. Blue- green algae (cyanobacteria) can produce toxins that are harmful and often fatal to animals. Cyanotoxins produced by these organisms can affect the nervous system, liver, skin, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract. If ingested in large enough quantities, onset of clinical signs can be rapid and animals require immediate and aggressive treatment. Even with aggressive treatment, death is not uncommon. Clinical signs can vary and include: Vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, depression, loss of appetite, pale mucous membranes, jaundice, weakness, stumbling, muscle tremors, rigidity, excess salivation, algae in vomit or stool, blood in urine, foaming at the mouth, difficulty breathing, respiratory paralysis, convulsion and seizures. If you suspect that your dog may have been poisoned by cyanobacteria, time is of the essence for veterinary care..... I am currently closed. Please HEAD TO THE MAINLAND IMMEDIATELY AND SEEK VETERINARY ATTENTION, see my website for details: www.straddievet.com I have attached a couple of photos of the dried- up algae that has washed up on our beaches. PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR DOGS EAT ANYTHING ON THE BEACH and do not let them swim in ‘foamy’ or dirty water. Thank you Jade (Straddie Vet)

15.01.2022 PREMIER: PLEASE REVOKE YOUR PLAN TO ALLOW DESTRUCTION OF TOONDAH'S RAMSAR PROTECTED WETLANDS Just about everybody now realises the world is facing a climate em...ergency, particularly Australia, with its dry, hot climate. Why would you proceed with the Jackie Trad led plan to allow a political donor property developer to destroy climate change defences - Toondah's Ramsar protected mangroves and seagrass beds - and build 3,600 high-rise units for private profit? This is just one of many important reasons for stopping the State Government/Walker Corporation controversial plan for the wetlands beside the Ferry Terminal at Cleveland, where the ferries depart for Stradbroke. Image 2 contains an artist's impression of what a section of the Toondah proposal would really look like from GJ Walter Park (Image 1), where today's World Wetlands Day event is taking place. Click on the images to view in panorama. The Premier promised "honest, open, accountable Government". But she has refused to be interviewed, including by the ABC, about Toondah. PREMIER, THE PUBLIC IS ENTITLED TO CLEAR ANSWERS FROM YOU TO THESE QUESTIONS:- 1. Why did the Palaszczuk Government backflip in 2015 on its previously strong opposition to Priority Development Areas (PDA's)? 2. Why is the Palaszczuk Government continuing with the irresponsible and unnecessary Toondah PDA over Ramsar protected wetlands, when the plan conflicts with Labor Party policies of protection? http://bit.ly/LaborToondahPolicy 3. Why did Jackie Trad agree to a 450% expansion in the number of proposed units, from 800 to 3,600? Even Lang Walker was only hoping for "about 1,000"! See - http://bit.ly/2J2uYUD. 5. Why did Jackie Trad write to the Federal Government in 2016 to encourage a "controlled action" decision under Federal Laws, encouraging a rejection of advice from Environment Department experts that the Toondah plan is "clearly unacceptable" ? (see the paragraph heading about the Trad/Miles letter in this 2018 ABC article - https://ab.co/2JdXCUo) 6. Why did Jackie Trad (and Steven Miles) write to the Federal Government in 2016 to suggest a boundary change to exclude the Toondah wetlands from the Moreton Bay Ramsar site? See this 2019 Guardian report - http://bit.ly/2KzKf2H 7. Why was it (absurdly) claimed, in the same letter, that the Toondah plan was in Australia's "urgent national interests"? Two petitions calling for the Premier to revoke the Toondah plan now have a combined total of over 20,000 signatures (and growing). See - https://www.actforbirds.org/toondah-queensland-petition and http://bit.ly/toondahpetition2 In an election year, the public has a right to clear explanations from the Premier for her Government's suspicious decisions and actions favouring Walker Corporation, and her Government's complete lack of respect for the international Ramsar Convention, signed by Australia and 170 other nations. When will the mainstream media, particularly the ABC, act in the public interest and ask these questions when the Premier appears at media and other events?
