25.01.2022 Green Powders Yay or Nay I feel that a green powder is essential for everyday people. I tend to see a lot of people who don’t eat enough fresh vegetables or salad in their everyday diet and a concentrated greens powder can aid and support one’s everyday health. What do I mean by not enough? Ideally if you are going to eat salad with a meal you want 2 cups of salad which is 1 serve! With vegetables you want 1 cup of cooked vegetables minimum to count as 1 serve. With vegeta...bles I am predominately meaning green vegetables. When you think about it, this is a lot and the majority of people don’t get this much in everyday, therefore increasing our risk of nutrient deficiencies. When we are under stress of some sort, this quantity of fresh vegetables and salad needs to increase as we deplete our stores and don’t absorb nutrients as well. When we are unwell and need to heal we also need more nutrition. There are just so many different factors that can impact on how we absorb and utilise the nutrition we get from food. I find greens a great addition to anyone’s diet to provide them with the added support to get through. Greens can also give you energy, aid better digestion, improve skin and support a healthy immune system. Green powders don’t all taste great let’s face it. A few brands that taste quite nice and I find palatable with water are Vital Greens and True Greens. The best way I find to get your greens in, in via a smoothie. #greens #greenpowders #individualrequirements #antioxidants #intolerances #allergies #tips #nutritionadvice #wellbeing #healthy #guide #educate #inspire #getbackontrack #nutritionist #good4younutrition

21.01.2022 Pimp Your Smoothies Without Tasting Gross! Green smoothies get such as bad rep as we often associate them with tasting yuck. There are ways that you can add extra nutrition and use green things that don’t make them taste yuck and get the added benefit of more fiber into your diet! What could you try?... Silverbeet Leaves start with 1 leaf with your normal smoothie and see what you think. I find silverbeet leaves blend better and have a nicer flavour in a smoothie compared to spinach or kale. It is also full of Vitamin A and C to support vision and immune system along with many other nutrients and minerals. Cucumber it is sweet and blends up very well and gives you some Vitamin K and Potassium which supports bone and heart health. Alfalfa Sprouts may sound like a strange item to put into your smoothie, but they blend well and don’t have a strong flavour and packed full of nutrition! They are is a way a super food as they are comprised of so many vitamins and minerals. Start with a small handful. The trick to making them taste yummy is to use some fruit that packs a strong flavour. Bananas with berries are often my go to and mask things really well. I usually use a base of almond milk and water and add some nut butter and hemp protein to make it a complete meal.

19.01.2022 Why see a Natural Practitioner? By that I mean a Nutritionist or a Naturopath. Great question and one I think that people don’t completely understand.... First thing is first. Natural. We work with clients to work on their food and where we can add in extra nutrition without the use of anything chemical related. By this I mean any form of supplement that is designed to burn fat quick or lose weight quick or anything that promises a quick fix! We use natural products comprised of vitamins, minerals and herbs to treat any underlying condition or to support the body such as; restoring gut health, boosting the immune system and reducing inflammation plus so much more. We also provide suggestions of what else you can do in your lifestyle to support your ongoing health. We can conduct various testing to help you find out what is causing you to not feel like yourself, whether this be food allergy or intolerance testing (2 separate tests), stool testing for gut health, heavy metal testing and the list goes on. If you have any questions about what we can do for you, please give us a call today to enquire.
18.01.2022 Can't go past a smoothie bowl when I am craving something sweet! The trick with getting these right and still making them healthy is to not go overboard with the fruit. Adding too much fruit will create unstable blood sugar levels. Recipe here!... 1 frozen banana - cup coconut or almond milk 1 scoop chocolate protein powder avocado tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp cacao powder 1 medjool date optional Place in a high speed blender and blend until thick and smooth. The banana and avocado really blend well together with the milk and give it this lovely smooth creamy texture. I did top mine with some leftover homemade granola along with a small gooey banana brownie. 17.01.2022 Chocolate Chip Buckwheat Cookies That perfect sweet yet savoury snack that is perfect for morning or afternoon tea! I used chunks of coconut milk chocolate in these ones. They are also gluten, dairy and egg free and still taste great ... I did make these quite big but they are all mine! No sharing here
13.01.2022 What is it like being dairy free? Something that people often like to ask me and then continue to say that must be so hard. Yes some days it sucks! Most of the time it is fine, I am use to it and have learnt how to manage it. I am already gluten free being a Coeliac so it wasn’t too hard learning how to stay away from cow’s milk.... Don’t get me wrong I loved cheese and milk, but I am able to enjoy some goat’s cheese, just nothing cow’s milk based. I have got use to nut milks and tend to stick with almond milk or coconut milk. I use coconut oil instead of butter in cooking, coconut yoghurt instead of Greek yoghurt and coconut cream instead of regular cream. A couple of my favourite dairy free products that I really love are vegan cheese. One brand I really like is ‘The Vegan Dairy’. This Persian feta is made on cashews. Another product I like is this vegan mayo ‘Vitawerx’. Now I know there are other mayonnaise's that are dairy free but I personally prefer this one as it doesn’t contain any canola or vegetable oil and it is egg free, perfect for our household at present.
11.01.2022 I haven't post for a little while now! So thought I better get myself back on track :-) Now that Winter is here, it is often the time of year we see people getting sick. There are so things we can do to reduce our risk of getting sick and build up our immune systems to support us during this time. Today I am making a chicken soup in the slow cooker, so simple and easy and tastes great. Some of the immune boosting foods I have put in include:... Onion Leek Garlic Herbs and spices Vegetables - carrots and celery These foods in general are great for everyone (if you don't have IBS or SIBO). In winter we need to remember that fruits and vegetables are just as important. Using herbs and spices is a great way to get in extra nutrition and antioxidants. We still need to choose quality protein sources and drinks lots of water! Just because it is cold doesn't mean you don't drink water. There are herbs that can be great for immune function as well and I prescribe a few tablets that contain a mix of nutrients and herbs to support people during this time. If you would like any information please send me a message :-) #winterfood #immuneboosting #preventsickness #soup #glutenfree #guthealth #loveyourself

09.01.2022 Coffee and Chocolate Flavoured Milk Now that summer is coming why not make your own flavoured milks! You can use any nut or seed milk that you like and you can make it from scratch.... Coffee milk - 3 cups nut/seed milk, 3 shots of espresso, 2 mejdool dates & 1 tsp vanilla essence - blend until smooth Chocolate milk - 3 cups nut/seed milk, 3-4 tbsp cacao powder, 2 medjool dates & 1 tsp vanilla essence - blend until smooth I used sunflower seed milk that I made. To make yourself - 1/2 cup sunflower seeds soaked in water for 4 hours. Drained and added to a blender with 3 cups of fresh water. Blend until smooth. Can put through a nut milk bag to get rid of any pulp if you like #nutmilk #seedmilk #dairyfree #intolerancefriendly
08.01.2022 Weekend Breakfast We love to do a cook up on a Sunday for Breakfast. We try and use up any leftover veggies and make a bit of a bubble squeak type dish. We quite enjoy beans and find they go great with a tomato based sauce. We like to add lots of herbs and spices to make it super flavoursome. ... You do need to ensure you eat enough protein with your breakfast, therefore we have added some eggs in as well :-) So easy and cheap to do, and you can use any leftovers you have in the fridge. If you are egg free you could add some good quality tofu or tempeh to this. #weekend #breakfast #savoury #glutenfree #dairyfree #eggfreeoption #veggies #onepanmeal #familyfriendly #nutritionist #good4younutrition
07.01.2022 Tea Bags and Plastic Tea bags, not something you would ordinarily think would cause any harm. Tea bags contain up to 25% plastic!! Plastic helps to keep the tea bag sealed up and to keep its shape when it goes into hot liquid. Polypropylene is the main plastic polymer found in tea bags. It is known to affect our bodies endocrine system.... It can cause allergies, genetic mutations and tumours and mimics the female hormone oestrogen which can cause problems with fertility and conceiving. TRY: Loose leaf tea and use a stainless steel strainer or look out in health food stores for tea bags that state they are plastic free. Reduce your plastic consumption! #reduceplasticconsumption #whatareyoueating #teabagsandplastic #hormones #youarewhatyoueat #mindfulness #putyourselffirst

04.01.2022 Let’s Talk Sugar Sugar is sugar no matter what form, whether is it Natural, Refined, Unrefined or Artificial. You can have too much of each form of sugar.... We do need sugar to function, it provides our bodies with energy to survive. This doesn’t mean we need to add it into our diets, as we can get plenty from natural sources such as; fresh fruits and vegetables, this includes salad ingredients as well. You can still eat TOO MUCH NATURAL SUGAR, particularly from eating too much fruit. 2-3 pieces of fruit per day is plenty with a wholefoods diet. It is our Refined, Unrefined and Artificial Sugars that we want to get a handle on. Refined sugars also known as empty sugars have gone through a manufacturing process or chemical process to make them easier to use in foods and therefore have no nutrients or minerals at all. Commonly found in processed foods such as baked goods, and things like soft drink and yoghurts. Unrefined sugars haven’t gone through the manufacturing process and contain some nutrients and minerals, both not enough that they should be consumed regularly. **My pet hate is when you see raw sweets advertised as refined sugar free, yet they are loaded with unrefined sugar such as maple syrup or honey and just as dangerous to the body as refined sugars. Artificial sugars, as the name implies are fake sugars, made through a chemical process, and often contain no calories, therefore must be healthy right? NO. If you consume sugar free, light or fat free products you are generally consuming artificial sugars. Obviously we don’t want to live under a rock and never eat foods that we like, we just have to start thinking about what we are eating and make an effort to reduce our sugar load through eating a Wholefoods Diet, rich in quality proteins, carbohydrates and fats. This is something that I work with Client’s on to find a healthy balance as often within a few weeks, most Client’s do notice a considerable difference in how they feel, whether it be increased energy and alertness and improved sleeping.

02.01.2022 Egg free version to scambled eggs It isn't the same as having eggs but for those who can't or choose not to eat them this can be a good alternative to get a good source of protein. Lightly fry up any vegetables that you like. Then mix together 1 cup chickpea flour and 1 cup water with any herbs and spices you like. I like adding some nutritional yeast. Then pour over vegetables and scramble up like you would with eggs. ... Optional - add 1 tbsp of butter or vegan butter and scramble through at the end to make it break up a bit more. Feel free to add your preferred cheese if you like. #eggfree #veganscrambledeggs #glutenfree #dairyfree #proteinrich #fibrerich #veggiesforbreakfast #holidays #nutritionist #good4younutrition
01.01.2022 Why did I get into Nutrition? Everyone always asks me how did I get into Nutrition. Was it because I got diagnosed with Coeliac Disease or did I have an eating disorder? Just to clear it up, I have not had an eating disorder or suffered from distorted eating. I purely fell into Nutrition over my love for food and just how great food can make us feel.... It started as a hobby, I didn’t go into it thinking it would go anywhere. I wanted to learn as much as I could about food and what I could do to ensure my health and wellness long term. I actually started out in Human Resources. I left school and studied at Uni for 4 years, graduating with a double degree in Business (Human Resources) and Arts. I fell into construction and spent 2 years in FIFO roles, predominately in WA. I had a mentor at the time who encouraged that I look at studying something as I wasn’t enjoy HR like I thought I would. That is how I started studying Nutrition. Working FIFO made me realise just how hard it was to eat well especially when you couldn’t have Gluten or Diary. I had to be more creative and that seemed to spark my interest further. I knew then I wanted to work with people to show them that you can still eat well you just need the motivation to do so. I made the decision to leave construction and FIFO and return back to QLD to finish off my study full time and start my small business Good4You Nutrition. Today I get to work as a Nutritionist and absolutely love it :-) #passion #dowhatyoulove #whatsinitforme #smallbusiness #driven #goals #reachhigh #foodismedicine #healthandwellness #nutritionist #good4younutrition
