25.01.2022 This morning the traditional Manly Rotary The Manly Scenic Fun Run & Walk was conducted virtually. I joined Lifeline Northern Beaches who did their event at Manly Lagoon with the support of sponsors Bendigo Bank Freshwater. Hundreds registered in the Fun Run event across the Northern Beaches. Did you participate?

24.01.2022 It's 101 years since the Manly community decided to build, and pay for! a new hospital at North Head. It was to be built on former quarantine land as 'a permanent tribute to the men who went forward and fought in the Great War', & called the Manly Peace Memorial Hospital. Now the hospital is closed but the land - almost a sacred site for our community - remains in public hands & will become a health & wellbeing precinct. 24.01.2022 The old beach parking permits expire tomorrow. These are the Council permits that allow extended free parking at Manly oceanfront & free at most other peninsula beaches - a different scheme to the Manly residential permits. Rate payers received two free permits with the last council rates notice. If youre renting, you need to contact your landlord or managing agent.

23.01.2022 Do you cycle or walk between Manly & Freshwater Village? Would you if the pathway was wider & safer? Have a look at the Councils planned upgrade to the shared path. Its not long - 750m - but its important. You can comment up to Fri Sept 25 @ yoursay.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/queenscliff-shared-path

22.01.2022 Hugos is open. Did you know? Its had a $1M refit and its only just reopened its doors. And in no time at all its busy. Welcome back Hugos Manly

22.01.2022 Looking for a good Manly Christmas gift? Here’s a great initiative from the Lost Manly group.

22.01.2022 Its Past Tense Tuesday. Look at these great photos of Manly Shark Tower & the Sinden Tyre tower at Fairlight. Do you remember them? Thanks to David Lowe, Ian McKnight & @manlysocial for sharing.

21.01.2022 Love this post from an overseas friend. What were your holidays plans this year V what actually happened? One thing is for certain, I’m more grateful than ever to live right here in Manly.

20.01.2022 Now here's a fun idea. Winning Moves Australia has obtained a license from Hasbro to produce a northern beaches version of Monopoly. The game will be sold through exclusive local businesses and will be directed at locals, not tourists. They are looking for suggestions of local sites should be featured. What do you think? What should replace Pall Mall and Old Kent Road? What should we feature instead of the railway stations? etc

19.01.2022 Have a look at this great talk presented by Good For Manly, about creating more space for pedestrians, bike riders, e-scooters etc. Let us know what you think.

19.01.2022 Here’s a nice addition to Little Manly tidal pool, - a hand raíl to help people get into the water. Kids were already using it too, to climb onto the top of the pool enclosure!

17.01.2022 I wonder who was responsible for the funding for the new sign at Manly Village Public School?

17.01.2022 Theres always something going on at Manly Beach. Right now theres a film crew shooting a very cold looking beach scene, plus some warmer-dressed nippers running into the surf. No wonder we all love living here.

16.01.2022 This is great! Over 20,000 historic photos plus online access to a host of heritage items. Just launched by Northern Beaches Council.

15.01.2022 Working with Manly Community Forum we have been successful in 'saving' the special lighting along East & West Esplanade. The beautiful golden globes, which were specially commissioned by Manly Council in the 90s, have become a defining feature of Manly Cove. But because they're not an off-the-shelf item, repairing the lights as they wear out had become a problem. The initial solution was to replace them with a more standard article, but Council will now rewire & repair the lights & stands, while keeping the iconic look. Great team work by the community & Council staff. Image: John Cowper

15.01.2022 Manly Library has been transformed into a brighter, more open space. The kids' area has been relocated to the back of the library & once COVID restrictions are eased will be transformed into a wonderful space for our young readers. Unfortunately the lack of communication & the unavoidable delay in installing kid-friendly, bright furniture, has caused angst that children would end up worse off. It's not the case, with the kid's area twice the size it was before, with room for more activities & all children's books now in the one spot.

15.01.2022 Did you know that the Lifeline Shop in Sydney Road sells books upstairs? Adult fiction and all subject categories sell for just $2 and the kids' book area is full of treasures including gorgeous picture books, junior fiction and non-fiction plus puzzles for just $1 each. Check it out this weekend and support the amazing work of Lifeline.

14.01.2022 Plans have finally been released for Little Manly Kiosk. The eating area will be smartened up with glass windows replacing the existing rollers blinds. There will be 5 outdoor tables & a new take away area on the north side of the building. The kitchen area will be rebuild & a cool room and freezer room added. Hours won't change & there's no application for a liquor license. The upgrade to a "Ripples" style cafe is costed at $500,000. For details and to have your say on the DA go to eservices.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au//SearchApplication.as

14.01.2022 Do you you know someone who should be recognised for the work they do for our community? Council is looking for nominations for the 2021 Citizen of the Year; Senior Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Sportsperson of the Year and Community Event of the Year. It's such a wonderful way to recognise our unsung heros. Details on Northern Beaches Council website.

13.01.2022 It is with an enormous disappointment that people who regard themselves as deserving locals have yet again trashed our pristine North Head National Park. This t...ime with a fire, bottles and cans thrown and stuck in trees and shrubs, smashed glass into the shrubs across a 50m2 area with total disregard and disrespect for anything and anyone. This is a protected and sacred area. Thank you to those people who helped collect the rubbish into one area for national parks to pick up. #loveManly #litter #rubbish #trash #northernbeachescleanupcrew Pic: Ronia B See more

12.01.2022 Exciting News! We are getting a new weekly PRINTED newspaper from Oct 7 called The Northern Beaches Review. The glossy paper will be delivered every Wednesday to 65,000 homes across the Northern Beaches. Editor Kate Cox is former editor of the Sun Herald & Sunday Life. And there will be no paywall for online content. Look out Manly Daily!

12.01.2022 It's time to decide. Should East Esplanade remain alcohol-free, 24/7; or revert back to its former statues of alcohol permitted on the grassy area until 8pm? COVID restrictions still apply. What would you like to see happen?

11.01.2022 Want to repair a chair, or make a table stable? Join the free Bower Reuse and Repair Centres webinar for easy ways to fix wooden furniture. Mon, 21 Sept. 5:30 - 6:30pm.

11.01.2022 We are indeed fortunate to have a colony of Little Penguins in Manly although sadly their numbers continue to fall. Recent reports of a fox which killed a number of them, coupled with another likely killed by a propeller strike is sad. We are so grateful to our volunteer Penguin Wardens and the the team at National Parks who do so much to protect their habitats. (Pleased to report the fox is no longer around). 10.01.2022 Everyone’s on board to save our magnificent Manly Ferries. Here’s the Tele’s ferry spread. Page 1. Love it!

10.01.2022 How about these dolphins at Curl Curl yesterday performing Just Wanna Have Fun! Thanks to Brodie Birkett & The Manly Daily for sharing.

09.01.2022 What conversation should we start? Manly Talks has covered climate change, stem cells, mental health & transport solutions. We will get back to a physical format as soon as it's COVID safe, with an expert speaking plus Q and A. What would you like to discuss?

09.01.2022 Its Spring! And up at North Head that means there are gorgeous ball-of-fluff baby plovers (masked lapwings), AND echidnas in the undergrowth. What have you seen up there? Lapwing images: Peter Maciniss

09.01.2022 How would you like to wear this when you went for a swim? What year do you think it is? Thanks #hellomanlyofficial for sharing.

08.01.2022 Wild surf today at Manly. Huge dumpers, row after row of them.

08.01.2022 Have a look at this council plan to improve access to Queenscliff from North Steyne. The plan is to build a footpath on the north side of Greycliffe St, and continue it as a ramp to link to upper Greycliffe St. Many people would be happy to avoid the steep stairs that link the roads now, & bike riders & people pushing prams will be particularly chuffed. There are two design options. Pick which one you like best.

08.01.2022 The Catholic Church has backed down on its controversial $31M Fairy Bower development. The proposed 23 dwelling development (top image) was fiercely opposed by locals on the basis of its size, bulk, and complete lack of green space. There was anger that almost all the 56 trees on the site would be cut down, and fears that storm water would run into the marine sanctuary of Cabbage Tree Bay. The proposal was not supported by Northern Beaches Council, before it went to determining authority Sydney North Planning Panel. The Church now appears to have conceded defeat, selling (the lease to) the largest block on the site (bottom image). They are expected to sell the remaining three blocks as individual lots. It's great news.

07.01.2022 The For Lease signs have gone up at Billabong’s flagship store in The Corso. But the iconic surf brand may manage to ride it out, with negotiations reportedly still underway over the new lease. It’s been in the Corso for 20 years.

07.01.2022 School kids (and everyone else) are loving this Council installation to celebrate NAIDOC week. Colourful artworks by Manly Public School kids are brightening up the empty shop front on the corner of Darley and Wentworth, opposite the school. Great idea!

07.01.2022 This would have to be my favourite photo from this week taken by Ocean Extreme. Have you spotted any dolphins or whales this week?

06.01.2022 What a stunning image from Northern Beaches Living & @_g_b_photography. Thanks for sharing.

06.01.2022 This striking image from 1876 is one of the earliest known photographs of Manly. What do you see? Whats missing? Source: Manly Warringah Pittwater Historical Society.

06.01.2022 Theres a big focus on pedestrians & cyclists at the moment, as COVID-19 results in more people working & exercising from home. Sharing the space fairly and safely along the oceanfront cycle path is a big challenge. What are your suggestions?

05.01.2022 Flashback Friday: Who remembers the amphitheatre in the Corso? This photo was taken in 1979 as part of the Manly Jazz Festival.

05.01.2022 The heritage restoration of the Steyne Hotel, Manly is progressing well. I understand they have also renovated their accommodation which will be a popular place to stay this summer.

04.01.2022 Life in iso. Thats the theme of the two winning Peoples Choice images at this years NB Art Prize. Striking & evocative works from both artists. Well done!

03.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY. With our current world-famous large ferries under threat of replacement, this old poster is a timely reminder of the historic connection ferries have with Manly. Please take action to stop this decision here: www.goodformanly.com.au/ferries

03.01.2022 Watch the re-construction of the Little Manly heritage harbour pool as brilliantly captured by Matt Connor of Manly Drone.

02.01.2022 Batteries, paint, fluorescent globes, pesticides & a whole lot more, can be dropped off this weekend at Warringah Acquatic Centre. Its quick, easy & free. Items are sorted, re-cycled as much as possible, & toxic substances dont get anywhere near our creeks and waterways. Just drive up on Sat or Sun 9am to 3.30.

01.01.2022 We'll get more space in Little Manly park with the building next door set to be knocked down & the land added to the public park. It also means the zig zag access ramp can be straightened out, adding more space again. It's a big win for our little piece of paradise. While the decision to knock down the building at 40 Stuart St has been made, the council also needs to reclassify it from Operational Land (land held temporarily or to facilitate council functions - a works depot etc) to Community Land (public park, public library etc). You can have your say on this process here.
