18.01.2022 Layers of beauty. Our food forest (aka edible forest garden) banks are delivering on the production and beauty front. I have feelings of both stoke and relief they've worked. Perennial food systems are the best. Once established, they can improve/maintain soil health, provide habitat and food for beneficial insects and provide huge amounts of food for a small amount of inputs. ... Because of these reasons (and more), our property is planted out with around 70 -80% perennials plants and crops with a relatively small slither of annuals amongst them. Edit: For those asking, I'll pop up a blog in the near future complete with the plant list we're using here. . . . . . #foodforest #edibleforestgarden #goodlifepermaculture #gardeningaustralia #permaculture #steepslopegardening #fridamaria #organic

13.01.2022 5 months ago we were in covid lockdown - along with the rest of Australia and a lot of the world. So I tried to help folks by filming how to grow your own food at home - resulting in the Crisis Gardening YouTube series. You can still watch via the link below. . It's been feeding us (& our community) that whole time with radishes, kale, looots of silverbeet, and romanesco broccoli (pictured). . This pandemic is shining a very bright light on our fragile, un-just system we al...l live in. Sadly, we don't have the forward-thinking "top down" leadership required for a swift and just transition to a better way of life. *But* what we do have is the ability to have a crack ourselves at creating change from the ground up. This (of course) includes growing cosmic broccoli, but think beyond the garden and your fence line to see how you can grow a better world. The need and opportunities are everywhere . . .Youtube link here: https://www.youtube.com/GoodLifePermaculture . . . . . #goodlifepermaculture #romanesco #gardeningaustralia #organic #permaculture #urbanpermaculture See more

01.01.2022 When you're filming with @gardeningaustralia and make the whole crew stop and take a photo of you - because you need evidence of how organised your new raspberry patch is. . In anticipation of your questions.....In this photo there's one mound (they don't like wet feet) with new raspberry canes lying on top waiting to be planted. 01.01.2022 Winter pantry almost full of our (and other's) garden surplus. . But what I most love about this scene are those gumboots and the little girl who wears them. 01.01.2022 Big day today. It's my first official "start writing my book day" where I've had to leave my home for 3 days and stay in a cute cottage in the country to force myself to focus. Quite lovely really. . It's also my 37th birthday which feels big and beautiful. Amongst playing my new birthday ukulele (which i don't know how to play), I intend to spend it mostly here - in bed writing my heart out (literally), admiring distant snow capped mountains and erratic slashes of wind a...nd rain. . It took me a while to think writing a book would be a worthwhile thing to do. And then someone reminded me that we need more positive voices to tell stories of hope and practical pathways to living a good life for all - so that we can live them into reality.... So this is what I'll do . . . . . . #bookwriting #goodlifepermaculture See more
