25.01.2022 Can solids affect sleep? Solids can be tricky and confusing but it doesn’t have to be! I’m going to bust the myth that introducing solids will make your baby sleep better incorrect. ... Actually, for the first time ever, your bub will begin to produce a range of new enzymes to digest food as well as produce new gut bacteria which can lead to some disruption of sleep. If you approach solids with some caution, the transition can be seamless and have little impact on sleep. make sure bub is really ready for solids. Past 17 weeks of age is a good time to start, they are chewing hands excessively and displaying hand eye coordination, usually sleep well but starting to wake up earlier and earlier, bub has doubled in birth weight and can sit straight (assisted). Starting solids at breakfast can create a milk imbalance that can keep your baby awake at night. If your bub isn’t getting the milk they need during the day, they begin waking at night wanting a feed to make up for it. Try solids for lunch at around 11am. This gives bubs plenty of time to digest the food before their nap and enough time before night sleep to see if there is any kid of reaction. once bub is used to having solids at 11am, you can introduce solids at 5pm. This will become dinner and remain as dinner time as they grow up. be guided by your bub when to increase the amounts. Bub will turn their head and become fussy when they have had enough.

21.01.2022 I don’t know who needs to hear this today but whatever you and your baby or toddler do is perfect. So many times we compare ourselves and our children to others- my child slept through the night from 4 months, my child began to crawl at 8 months, my child was talking in 4 word sentences by 2. I’m here to tell you that every child is developmentally different and will hit milestones at different points in their lives. ... Seek help because something is not working for you but not because your child is not doing what another is. Enjoy your bub and all that THEY do.

21.01.2022 I will always start a sleep consultant with looking at a clients goals. It is so important to know which direction you are heading in and if those goals are actually realistic. Part of my job is to manage expectations and give a reasonable overview of what can be achieved. What are some of your sleep goals? Sound off in the comments

20.01.2022 All of my children have an email address that I set up when they are born. I wrote them letters for milestones or when I feel like telling them something that has happened. Gabe is 6 months old today. Here is my letter to him. A letter to my 6-month-old boy: Is still pinch myself and wonder how I became so lucky to be chosen by you to be your Mumma. Thank you for your speedy entrance into the world and making my birthing experiencing with you the most positive one I have had... to date. I must admit, in the early days it was difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I thought by the third I would have this parenting thing down pat. You had other ideas. We spent the first few months of your life in and out of doctor’s rooms. Not because there was anything seriously wrong- thankfully, but because I knew something wasn’t quite right and it took a long time for me to feel heard. From your tongue and lip tie, suspected hip dysplasia, floppy larynx, congestion, blocked tear duct (which you still have), colic just to name a few, it has been a bumpy ride. But now, I have made it through the tunnel and out the other side. You sleep like a dream and have the temperament of an angel. I can see the early experiences you have with your brother and sister and how they stimulate your brain. I can see these positive experiences shaping you and how you are responding to the world around you. They are obsessed with you and fight over your first moments of the day with who gets to have cuddles with you in their bed first and your last moments- who gets to sit next to you in the bath. Your sister makes sure she gets every last second with you and sits with me, in your room, while I feed you before both kissing you goodnight. Thank you for giving me an abundance of unfiltered, unassuming love and smiling every time you hear my voice. It is enough to melt my heart. I did not think I would still be breastfeeding at 6 months but I have found this to be my favourite bonding time with you. It is my time to have you, all to myself, uninterrupted. My wish for you, my beautiful 6-month-old boy is to live up to your namesake. Continued in the comments...

17.01.2022 How can you achieve longer sleep for you bub? Only with the things we can control! You will not be able to control when your baby falls asleep or, how long they sleep for. Sleep is a biological need but how they fall asleep is a learnt behaviour. Therefore, while we can’t control when a bub falls asleep or how long for, we can control elements to assist them falling asleep peacefully and create an environment that will promote lengthened sleep cycles. ... Follow along in my stories (where I will demonstrate how) and posts (where I will present the information) on how to create the better sleep for your bub (of any age)! 14.01.2022 Over the past week, I have made a concerted effort to spend more time looking after myself and my needs. My self-care metre was running on empty, and I was not living up to the type of mum I want to be or hold myself to be. I find looking after myself very difficult. It takes a lot of time and effort but, I feel better for the effort and I can mum better too. My children deserve a happy mum and I deserve to be a happy mum. The changes I have made this week include: a Pilates... class on demand, in my living room. A massage at 8:30om so I can crawl into bed after. Instead of watching TV mindlessly, watching something that I am actually enjoying and find enthralling. Cooking to nourish my body rather than eating my kid’s leftovers and calling it dinner. So, my challenge to you is to spend the next week doing something each day for yourself while your children sleep. This can be during night sleep or day sleep (if you are lucky enough to still have a little one who naps during the day). Tag a mum, send this to a mum or save this for yourself and accept my challenge. Screen shot the challenge from my story, fill it in and repost it. Don’t forget to tag me so I can share it with all the other mums out there so we can support one another in this epic, judgment free, caring community. Happy looking after yourself!

14.01.2022 @belliesandbeyond put it perfectly when she said she’s feeling ‘life tired’. It’s not a type of tired that a good nights sleep can fix, it’s the type of tired where you need a break from the mundane activities of everyday life. I am soooooo life tired! From navigating life as a family of 5 for nearly 5 months, to transitioning to kinder and crèche, to running a business, to dinners, pick ups, drop off, ballet, swimming, feeding, tantrums, lack of sleep, cleaning up, making l...unches, washing to providing for everyone’s needs all the time! I am so grateful for everything I have and feel very lucky every single day, but my goodness am I life tired. Surely I’m not alone? Anyone else?

14.01.2022 Christmas is nearly here!! This means things to do and places to be, which is not always conducive to your little ones nap schedule. So, how do you make the day enjoyable for yourself without stressing and having an overtired little one? Let’s run through it:... 1 don’t put too much pressure on the nap. The more stressed and anxious you are about the nap, the more unlikely it is that bub will nap. They feed off our energy. When was the last time you feel asleep when someone clicked their fingers and said sleep? Rather, replicate the sleep environment that your bub has to home, on the go. This way you are giving them the cues that it’s time to go to sleep. Bring their sleeping bag, white noise, dummy/comforter etc. and complete your wind down routine- give them the signals that it is time to settle for sleep. 2 assisting with sleep. If you have a bub who is under 4 months, you can let them sleep on you to get the nap done. Be careful passing them around. This can often be very overstimulating for a baby and make it harder for them to nap. If you have a bub around 4/5/6 months old and their nap is shorter than usual, you can offer a 15 minute bridging nap so they are able to make it to their next scheduled nap or bed for the night. If you have a bub that is 8 months and up, try aim for one of their naps to be in their cot and the other on the go. Take a portacot with you and try replicate your home sleep environment. (If it is dark enough, they won’t actually know they’re not at home). If you have a toddler on one sleep that is cut short or they simply don’t manage to sleep, an early bedtime it is. Bring everything forward (including dinner, bath etc) and put them to sleep at about 6pm. Remember: tomorrow is a new day and life happens. Enjoy the festive season and don’t stress about something like a nap!

09.01.2022 Why will a swaddle help your baby sleep longer and have a more restorative sleep? A swaddle will help your bub feel safe and secure as it provides the same snug cuddle as they experienced in the womb. Their Moro reflex (startle reflex) is prominent until they learn to roll. That is, they have no control of their arms and their flailing arms can easily startle them awake. ... Every bub is developmentally different but they should be unswaddled between 4-5 months or, when they begin rolling from back to tummy.

07.01.2022 Day light savings is coming to an end on Sunday, 4th of April at 3am. Does this really mean summers over? I know what you’re thinking... this is going to ruin all the hard work I’ve put in to get my bub to sleep. But don’t worry, this change doesn’t have to interfere with your little ones sleep! ... A babies body clock (their circadian rhythm) is set by three things: food, light and social interaction. You can reset their body clock to match up with the hour lost by daylights savings ending in small 15 minute increments every few days. Helpful hints: You can actually make this change after daylight savings ends too Feedings (solids, breast or bottle) would need to adjust by 15 mins too as you set your little ones body clock with food. Exposure to sunlight first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon will help with the transition. You can distract your bub to stretch the 15 mins with a cuddle, game, chat etc.

07.01.2022 Am I right?!?! I once commando crawled to get out of the room unseen. What crazy things have you done to get out of your baby’s room? Share your hilarious moments in the comments with all the other Mummas out there
