23.01.2022 Amongst other things, one of my clients had a goal of (measurably) expanding their reach, connecting with wider communities on social media and letting them know about all the amazing things they are doing ! I wanted that for them as well. Over the years together we've organically added 4,000 new loyal community members (engaged following on social media).... On its own, the number may not mean much: is it many or is it not enough? We certainly need more data and some interpretation/meaning to make sense of this . Amongst improved engagement (800% ), their Facebook Page's reach jumped 1,250% since when we first started working together, with every second of third post going viral (which is a specific piece of Facebook data - message me if you'd like to know more) . Improved Facebook Page's following alone doesn't reach wider communities and bigger audiences. You need a loyal and engaged community who send your content viral to help reach more people . This is why there is no one piece of data or one templated tactic that gets you closer to your goals . Social media technology isn't a must-have or a guarantee of success (I know, annoying!) . Social media can be a powerful tool in helping you reach specific goals really powering your mission! The results aren't in social media gurues, million dollar secret formulas or another expensive marketing course. It's all in YOUR work (that's great news )! Social media can be a gun: it can either propel you forward fast and furious or kill your work all together. 23.01.2022 We may be bruised and tired but we made it to the other side. We survived a difficult year and many of us are ready to make a difference in 2021. And difference is what we are ought to make! We must drop down and rot rather than rise up and spin. We have been spinning all 2020! Many lost jobs, sanity of even lives and many rediscovered selves, their strengths and passions.... Many established not for profits and for-purpose businesses rose to their highest selves, innovating and supporting like never before. All these experiences are going to make our 2021 a different year. Social media can help us reach wider communities, share important messages, connect deeper with those who are in need of our work and build donations and relationships. Social media can help us be our truest self or drag us down the rabbit hole of guilt, exhaustion and inadequacy. We have a choice! Before you jump into content production and social media design, advertising and Instagram Stories, feel for who you are and what you want to create. Feeling is the key here! 22.01.2022 It’s becoming more obvious to me that some of the harshest disappointment arises from unmet expectations and our interpretations of neutral events. I’ve observed many broken relationships, business agreements and friendships due to our choice to never settle for what is. And why would we! There is a whole big world out there full of opportunities and rewards. We want it all and we want it now. Or at least, as soon as possible.... Over my decade long work as a social media strategist I’ve watched many humans struggle to accept what is. I am no exception. Social media technology, for example, is a slow burn marketing tool, which has been sold to millions of people and organisations as a quick fix sale tool instead. I am not surprised that as people started to realise that the promise was empty, they are feeling increasingly cheated and betrayed. There would be no day passing me by without someone sharing their pain and hurt of disappointment with social media. I am no exception. What I think I see differently is that now that many uncovered that social media technology doesn’t do what they’ve been promised, we are all liberated from the chuckles of illusion and can finally see what it can do for us. This is where it gets tricky.

17.01.2022 Anticipate you clients' and prospects' needs. Post regularly to to be seen. Be professional. STOP THIS! All these HYPED IDEAS aren't very realistic. And I'm sick and tired of being told what I must be to be taken seriously in business. Anticipating someone's needs doesn't just sound like a witch craft to me but it's prone to errors. Posting to be seen is a lie. And being professional... please define!... I've been hearing this sort of marketing advice all over the Internet. Almost every entrepreneur I meet tells me how they are trying to get their word out there, appear trustworthy to increase sales and maybe even go viral. I've been thinking ... ...instead of trying to acquire magical powers of anticipating people's needs why not ASK them about what they need? Instead of fearing being lost or forgotten on the Internet maybe focus on your clients and their IMPACT, and instead of trying to appear a particular way maybe come out as YOURSELF. I know, these are a litte outrageous. Stay with me for a little longer. I feel there is sometimes a gap between who we really are and how we appear online. We are breathing, thinking, we are quirky and amazing but once we are behind the walls of our organisations, everything changes. We become someone else. How come? I think we need more authentic SELVES and genuine CONNECTIONS. A little less focus on ROIs and KPIs and more HUMAN connections. Business is relationships. Marketing is relationships. More income, donations and impact often come with relationships. I'd like to offer a different perspective to test - come out of behind the business walls and share your gifts with the world.
