24.01.2022 Today we had a visit from 6 chicks. The children thought it was fantastic! We learnt about where chickens come from, what chickens eat and where they live.

23.01.2022 Wow what a great week!! We all added to our Auslan knowledge. We finished our week off with purple on Thursday and orange today. We are now looking forward to loud shirt day on Friday October 23rd which is a day dedicated to children who are deaf or have hearing needs. Keep eye out for further information on this event closer to the time.

23.01.2022 Here at Goodstart Albury Banff Ave we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This week is NAIDOC week and we wanted to celebrate with the Nation's First People. The theme of NAIDOC week 2020 is 'always was, always will be'. I have included the key signs for 'always have, always will be'

20.01.2022 Tonights staff meeting was an absolute hoot! We had our second Auslan session for the staff. At the end of the session we did Chinese whispers using Auslan. By the time the Auslan phrase got to the end of the line parts had been forgotten and signs had changed. The end phrases were hilarious when interpreted. We were laughing so hard we had tears rolling down our cheeks....we had a hoot of a time playing Auslan Chinese whispers!! We are so lucky to have our beautiful Alison to teach us the Auslan language. We decided we are going to play this again some time as it helps us learn and was so much fun. Laughing with your team is fantastic, whilst learning at the same time.

20.01.2022 The children at Goodstart Albury Banff have access to their learning journals every day. This allows the children to revisit their learning as far back as the beginning of the year. The children enjoy looking back and realising how much they have achieved and learnt throughout the year.

19.01.2022 We have had an unexpected talking bird visit us the past few days. He has been as interested in us, as we have in him. We were extremely impressed that he could talk (see the video in the comments). I am sure meeting a talking bird was definitely a first for majority of the children. We wanted to help him get home so posted our new friend on the lost pets page. His family came to pick him up. We learnt that his name is Craig and he is a Long Beaked Corella. Craig likes a scratch on the top of his head and likes to show off his wings. It seems Craig is a very cheeky bird as he didn't want to go home today and flew off on his owner. We will most likely have Craig back for a visit tomorrow as he quite likes the fruit tree and walking back and forth along the brick wall talking to the children.

19.01.2022 Today is Auslan Celebration Day! As part of our National Week of Deaf People today we also celebrated Auslan. The colour of the day was yellow. The amount of families going to the effort to celebrate so far is outstanding - thanks for really taking the time to celebrate and raise awareness with us. Each and everyday here at GS Banff we are learning more and more Auslan.

18.01.2022 Last week we were fortunate enough to have a lovely visitor who taught us about the Persian culture. We learnt about the Persian New Year known as Nowruz (which is the first day of spring). We listened to the traditional story of Amo Nowruz and Nane Salma and how they celebrated the New Year. The children were also able to see a Haft-Sin table which is also utilised during the Nowruz celebration. On the table were 7 symbolic items that all started with the same letter - this was known as "seen". We also got to experience Persian dance which we really loved. Even the infants were mesmorized by watching the moves of the Persian dancing.

18.01.2022 Today we kicked off our colourful week in support of National Week of Deaf People. Today's colour of the day is pink. We have included the pink sign in this post for you to practice at home.

16.01.2022 The Nursery children have enjoyed feeding the birds. The project started when we had birds regularly visiting the Nursery yard, which sparked a lot of interest in the birds. Filling the birds feeders has been a daily ritual in the Nursery.
