22.01.2022 Book Week This week we participated in Book Week, an annual literacy based community event celebrated each year in Australia. This year the event was pushed back due to COVID-19. We are so happy to be able to take part this year by encouraging children to dress up and bring in a book from home. The children are able to express their interests as they participate, as well as make links between various types of media. They are fostering literacy skills such as reading, print and image interpretation as they engage with books.

06.01.2022 Mat session time the educator show the video to children about what’s satellite and how it help us to tell weather and maps. Telescope- The educator read a book the big book about stars and planets and talk about how telescopes work. How we can see the things that are far away we look lot bigger and clearer. Children saw through the telescope one by one. Using telescope children explore the world around them and beyond, they begin to ask questions. They want to know what they are seeing, how it was created and what it is made of. This not only boosts social skills, it also enhances vocabulary and comprehension skills. Children are also encouraged to research objects in space which expands their overall knowledge and language.

The more they learn, the more they’ll love learning for life! And if your child is starting school next year, an extra month or two of learning can really help your child’s transition. During this time, they’ll continue learning and building social and emotional skills, while staying in a routine, giving them a strong foundation for nex...t year. And while they’re at it, they’ll have so much fun with their friends! We’re open every day except the public holidays. If you’re already booked in 5 days a week, you don’t need to change a thing. If you’d like more days over Summer, talk to your Centre Director.

03.01.2022 Today we celebrated Talk Like A Pirate Day by wearing pirate themed costumes. Most of the educators and children came in dressed-up like a pirate. The children in all the rooms were engaged with different learning experiences. In the Kindy room, children spend time making pirate ship using cardboards with their educators and also involved in Pirate Treasure Hunt play. Children cut the cardboard into small rectangular squares that can be tape together to made a ship with th...e help of educator and the children engaged in cardboard pirate ships and enjoyed their learning. Through arts and craft, children learn to value and appreciate artifacts and images across cultures and times. Experience in design, art, and crafts enable them to reflect critically on their own work and those by others. They learn to act and think like designers and artists, working intelligently and creatively. Pirate Treasure Hunt play is designed to improve children imagination skills and story building abilities. It will also help them with map reading and following instructions via the treasure hunts. In addition, there are elements of art and craft and visual arts via costume design and creation of props. The educator showed the children a pirate treasure map as they sat around the table. The children took turns looking at the map, and stating where to start, which path to take and where the treasure could be found. The educator hid the treasure and the children used the map to guide them as to where to find it. The educator used the positional language like on in under behind etc to describe the position of the next treasure to children. A treasure hunt play is essential to the healthy development of children; play helps them discover and explore, solve problems, test new ideas and experience friendship, cooperation and teamwork.

02.01.2022 You know what's better than saying "this food is good for you"? Tell them what foods do in their body! Why do I keep sharing this message? Because we keep selling our children short labeling foods and good/bad, healthy/unhealthy. Here are some examples of messages I like for different ages: For 2-3yo children I usually break it down by color. Although it's not 100% accurate, it’s a good framework to get started. Red: gives you a strong heart Orange: helps ...you see in the dark Yellow: helps your body heal cuts Green: gives you super powers to fight off sickness Blue and Purple: Give you a strong brain White: gives you energy For 4s and 5s you can start being more specific - like carrots and sweet potatoes help you be able to see in the dark. Clementines help your skin heal cuts. Broccoli helps your night vision, your skin heal, AND your bones be strong. For 4s/5s and 6s you can introduce the idea that some foods do a lot of things in their bodies and some foods do a few things. For 6s and 7s you can introduce the concept of vitamins and minerals - tell them HOW carrots protect their night vision (via vitamin A). Learn about the body. For 8s and 9s - learn even more about different things in foods. And so on. All the while, model the way you want your kids to eat in your home and serve them the balanced diet you want them to eat. That's more powerful than anything you could ever tell them. See more

01.01.2022 One sleep to Early Childhood Educators' Day! Whether it be taking flowers and plants to your centre tomorrow, or sending them a photo of a picture your child has drawn - let's all bring a little sunshine to some very special people

01.01.2022 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day Today the Kindy children were recognising National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. To take part in this day the children and educators welcomed each other by saying ‘Kay’s’ a Noongar greeting, and followed it with our Acknowledgement of Country. The children listened as the educator read ’You and Me, Murrawee.’ This shared the comparison between contemporary life and life 200 years ago for the... indigenous population and way of life. This supports the children understanding of time, our history as a country, diversity and culture. To conclude the learning experience the children worked in small groups to use the rain sticks the children made last year. The Toddlers were engaged in dot painting learning experience. We used cotton tips for dipping into the red, yellow and black paint and making patterns with dots. Dot paintings are individual stories as told by the painter and the storyteller. Educators consistently strive to engage children in respectful conversations and learning experience designed to increase awareness and understanding of Aboriginal cultures.
