25.01.2022 One of the centre's focuses at the moment is our changing Spring garden. You may have noticed our trees have been dropping petals, this is a beautiful account of how the children are supported in this environment. "Another child and I were sitting on the step looking at the petals falling off the tree. Grace came over to see what we were doing. Grace went around and began collecting the petals and placing them in my hand. The wind caught them and they flew out of my hands. Grace went and collected more and placed them into my hands again. After she collected quite a lot the wind still hadn't blown them away so I asked Grace if I should blow them away. She said yes and as I blew them she watched. We looked at how many petals were still in the trees and how pretty they were. " Thanks Vanessa!

18.01.2022 Week 1 of the Kindy program was all about Australia! The children have been talking about the animals, singing the songs and making food that is special to our wonderful country. "We started the day talking about continents, what they are and the continent song. We discussed the continent Australia and how we will be exploring all about our continent. We looked at all the special animals we have here. We looked some beautiful Indigenous Australian artwork and painted some of our own on the shape of Australia. In the afternoon we made an Australian classic... fairy bread! The children loved making it, following the steps and practicing good food hygiene. They also loved the taste."

16.01.2022 Council’s $95,000 transformation of First Avenue Reserve in Ascot Park has won a prestigious state award. The upgrade has scooped the 2020 Australian Institute ...of Landscaping Architects award for Small Projects. The upgrades were unveiled last August. Improvements included a stage for kids to host mini plays. There’s also a swing, log tunnel, climbing poles, moasaic and mural. It’s an awesome park and we know the community love it as much as we do. Judges commented how the work successfully involved community groups and focussed on the use of natural elements and materials. Thank you to all the groups for their input, including the Miyurna Kumangka Men's Group, Westminster Preparatory School, and the Migrant Women's group First Avenue Reserve will now be entered into the National Landscape Architecture Awards. 16.01.2022 What is National Reconciliation Week? National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year - 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.... Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We invite you to join in the learning about National Reconciliation Week at home through Goodstart@Home which is free for Goodstart families. Listen and learn from the stories and activities on the site. Take a moment to explore how you can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia: athome.goodstart.org.au This is the youtube link to the story how the birds got their colours . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtRHtCa6GZ8

14.01.2022 The year before school is so important for young children. It’s where they learn the skills to develop the confidence they need to make a smooth transition to school. At Goodstart the Kindergarten program is evidence based and is specifically designed for children aged 3-5 years. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework, which is delivered by degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers. This program nurtures children’s collaboration, communication, creativi...ty and critical thinking skills. Our approach gives your child the full benefits of a daily learning program while you are supported with the longer care hours we provide. That means your child gets the best start to their schooling, while you juggle the day-to-day demands of life. Find out more at: www.goodstart.org.au/kindergarten-sa

07.01.2022 Its Dental Hygiene Week this week (3 9 August), so weve created some fun activities you can do with your toddlers to encourage them to brush their teeth on our Goodstart@Home website. These activities are easy to do and a great way to support the development and understanding of dental hygiene and teeth brushing techniques. This years Dental Hygiene Week theme is all about sugar and How much sugar is hiding is your trolley? Wed like to encourage families to be mindful... of hidden sugars in food. Making healthy choices at the supermarket extends to making similar smart food and drink choices at home. Early childhood tooth decay can affect your childs health and cause pain, making it hard for your child to sleep, eat or speak. It can also affect your childs ability to concentrate and learn. Children who develop dental decay at an early age are more likely to suffer from it throughout childhood. 02.01.2022 As a centre we have been working on ways to improve health and safety within the centre. We believe children should have an active role in this area as well, so the Kindy children have begun completing a "Yard Checklist" before play time starts. This checklist supports the list completed by the educator and encourages children to be aware of potential hazards in their environment. Well done Kindy friends!!
02.01.2022 Benefits of additional days for children Research indicates that children who attend high- quality early learning programs have a better outcomes in school and later in life than children who do not. Governments around the world, including Australia, are increasingly suggesting that between 10 and 15 hours of early learning a week optimises child outcomes. Developmental benefits... Language and cognitive development More consistent interaction with their peers and older children can more effectively support language development. Greater stimulation with a range of resource and experiences alongside other children. More consistent educational support in areas of need or development. Attachment to secondary caregiver Children become more comfortable with developing relationships with other new adult figures. Additional time allows children to develop secure relationships with their secondary caregiver in their room. Educators have a greater opportunity to support, guide, and teach children based on an understanding of the needs, interests, and abilities of the individual child. Social and emotional benefits Reduces stress in young children Attendance for more than one day per week allows the child to get comfortable in the environment, particularly those children who are feeling anxious about separating from parents. The child is able to become less stressed as the environment becomes more familiar more quickly. Children are able to adapt to change more effectively when they have a chance to get used to particular environments. Socialisation and peer relationships They have a greater capacity and consistency of time to build relationships with new children in their group. More effective relationships are developed with a range of adults and peers. Children develop greater empathy and understanding of others. From an early age a greater awareness of other children is developed. Children are better able to interact more effectively in group/classroom settings. Children have a better chance of developing effective social skills and understanding. Educational benefits Research suggest children who are confident socially do better at school In older children social confidence can be helpful in developing school readiness. Behavioural norms Children learn the rules of the group more quickly and are able to effectively interact within the group. Children have a better chance of understanding that different rules apply to different group situations. Understanding these types of rules and expectations allow children to be ready to learn in more effective ways
