24.01.2022 NAIDOC week 2020 Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Uncle Rick Nelson tells a story of his people and their connection to the land.... How lucky are we to have Elder’s to share their knowledge and keep their culture alive. https://vimeo.com/423429830

23.01.2022 Symbols play an important role in Indigenous culture. They are often used in art, to tell stories and to share knowledge of the land and the beliefs of the Aboriginal people. The past few weeks the children have engaged in a recognition experience where they are able to explore various symbols and match them. This has created conversation around meaning of the symbols and how aboriginals use various languages to communicate and tell stories. ... Matching is an important early childhood math skill that helps in classification of objects. Playing memory games can improve other brain functions, such as attention, concentration, visual recognition and focus. Memory games give space to critical thinking and that helps children nurture their attention to detail.

20.01.2022 From early on, children are exposed to music. Singing lullabys, nursery rhymes and even made up funny songs are a big part of their lives. Introducing musical instruments for children into their play is a natural progression. Being able to play, touch and make noise with a variety of wooden musical instruments helps our children learn in so many ways. Pictured is Archie showing an increased awareness of sound as he manoeuvres the small instrument to hit the box and make d...ifferent pitched noises. We think Archie looks pretty proud of himself. Thank you Archie for allowing us to share your smile with the world.

18.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations.... Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories.

17.01.2022 This week we have been working on our classroom limits and positive affirmations to help build childrens sense of belonging and esteem whilst reminding them we need to follow certain rules while spending time together. After lots of discussion with the children individually and in groups, today we came up with our final agreement of how we should act and treat our friends while at Kinder. I can be kind, I can help, I can listen, I can share, I can be my best.... Thank you to our 3 year old kinder children for giving us permission to share your classroom limits on our socials. Learning Experience By Educator Courtney.

15.01.2022 Were asking people to stay home and save lives. But for some Victorians, home is the most dangerous place to be. 2 days ago the Victorian government announced the expansion of the Orange Door Network across the state.... Five new hubs where Victorians who need support, can turn to and feel safe. A place that can change lives, and most importantly - save lives. The message to every Victorian is that help is there if you need it. There is never an excuse for violence. And fleeing family violence is always a reason to leave home - restrictions or not. If you see or hear someone being hurt or intimidated, call 000. Share these numbers with the people around you. And remember that family violence isnt always physical. You never know who might need help.

15.01.2022 Excitement as we were treated to a science show of natural wonder. We could feel the cold air in the morning when we ventured outside. Later there was the noise of the wind swirling and then the sound of heavy rain. The children watching through the windows in amazement as pellets of ice covered the ground. We observed the ice melting as we brought a dishful inside. The children were able to see how ice dissolves to water. Some children eager to explore it further outdoors. ...Touching and scooping up handfuls, ooh its cold and stomping on ice with their gum boots. How lucky we are to have nature to provide us with such a valuable learning experience.

15.01.2022 At Goodstart we want to help give all of Australias children the best start in life and Child Protection Week is all about just that! We are always here to support you, as you support your family and communities. ... Here at the centre we also have activities that we will be doing with the children to celebrate Child Protection week! If youd like to learn more just reach out.

15.01.2022 Alphabet soup! During this learning activity we were able to practice singing the alphabet together and then practiced our letter identification as we added ingredients to the pot. Children work towards the ability to read an write by practicing particular skills through play. This includes concepts of text, tracking, building fine motor skills, comprehension of text and letter identification. ... By incorporating these concepts into play, children of kindergarten age can learn most effectively and also practice transferring their knowledge between situations. Thank you Brodie for giving us permission to share you learning on our socials.

14.01.2022 Some great up coming session!

Send some love and appreciation to our team or an educator that has made a difference in your childs life ... What pleasure it is to be apart of such a inspiring team at Bendigo Goodstart Early Learning 2020.

13.01.2022 Tinkering with loose parts is important because it can help children understand how things are made, enables children to have focused and unstructured time to explore and test ideas, and its at the heart of invention. This was an excellent way to exercise our hand eye coordination and fine motor skills as children manipulated the small nail in their hands and coordinated hammering at the same time. How impressive that this is a child made resource that we can continue to utilise within our learning environment for weeks to come!!!

12.01.2022 EVERY child deserves a champion

12.01.2022 R U OK Day and in support we are asking everyone to wear yellow in support of this very important issue. We encourage everyone to check in with their work colleagues, friends, family, etc and; Ask... I know it can be awkward to ask and sometimes you may not be sure what to say, but checking in to make sure someone is okay is one of the most powerful things you can do for another person. If youve noticed someone isnt themselves or you know that they have something going on personally, make sure you check in on them. All you need to say is R U OK? It can be a text, a phone call or a personal message, just something to let them know youre thinking of them. That one question can make all the difference. Listen Listening to another person, and I mean really listening, is one of the most powerful ways that you can show you care. This means putting down your phone, turning off any distractions and giving that person your full attention. You dont have to have all the answers but there are somethings you can say. Our friends at RU OK have put together a great video and resources on what you can say if you arent sure. You can find it all here: https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask Encourage If youre worried about someone after asking them if theyre okay, theres a few places you can suggest where they can get help straight away. Ive listed these below: Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 or online https://www.beyondblue.org.au/home Lifeline 13 11 44 (24/7) or online https://www.lifeline.org.au/get-help/ LifeWorks (for all Goodstarters and their families) 1300 361 008 (24/7) If youre worried about someones safety, please call 000 immediately for help.

12.01.2022 Everyday activities can be fun learning opportunities. Pretending, creating and helping allows your child to discover new things. Play helps children learn about themselves and where they fit in the world. Evidence shows that play can support learning across physical, social, emotional and intellectual areas of development. Let your child’s imagination run wild. Encourage them to play dress ups or pretend to be a favourite character.

11.01.2022 Please be aware of the weather warning for tomorrow. Please stay safe.

10.01.2022 Our 3-5 room have introduced sensory tubs as a mindful activity throughout the day. Children and even adults learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses. Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through ‘sensory play’ is crucial to brain development it helps to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways. This leads to a child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports... cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills. Pictured is Harmony, she is learning about our solar system, her favourite planet is the sun

10.01.2022 Our three year old kinder children have been learning all about space, they actually have their own space station set up within the room. How lucky are we to have Educator Greta and her creative passion for scrap booking, to go hand in hand with this learning environment.

10.01.2022 We kicked off our Mother's Day raffle this week! Our Mother's Day Hamper is located in the foyer. Have a sticky and grab your tickets from the front desk. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. All funds raised will go to one of our own families who were recently enrolled. Vanessa has been battling with AML Leukemia for 3 1/2 years. This is absolutely heartbreaking and devastating for Vanessa, her husband Falou and their two young daughters Havanna (5) and Haizel (3). 08.01.2022 Love and acceptance above all

07.01.2022 This week in kinder we continue to focus on and discuss the meaning of gratitude. We talked about what this word means and how it can make us feel happy when we are grateful for the people and things in our lives. As educators, we understand the power of positive thinking and a growth mindset in childrens learning and see these as important aspects of our program. Some of the children chose to share some of the things that make them feel grateful everyday!

07.01.2022 Elijah's last day of kinder photo, kindly shared by mum! It's the end of an era and we've loved you being a part of our little community, we wish you all the very best for your new adventure

07.01.2022 In education, there are a variety of different teaching methods all designed to help children learn effectively and thoroughly. Some methods work well together, while others do better when they are applied individually. Scaffolding (also known as scaffold learning, scaffold method, scaffold teaching, and instructional scaffolding) is a very popular method in early childhood education. One way to scaffold is to ask probing questions: This encourages a child to come up with an answer independently. In the sandpit, a educator could ask, "What do you think would happen if we added water to the sand? or how many scoops would it take to fill the pan?.

05.01.2022 On the first day of Christmas Our kinder children discussed how many families celebrate Christmas differently or how some families don’t celebrate Christmas at all, and that is okay.

05.01.2022 On Christmas Eve our children sent thanks to our local businesses that have supported us through the year of 2020. Thank you Cabbage Patch Kangaroo Flat, Central Vic Meats and Bendigo Foodshare Support local

05.01.2022 Focusing on practical life skills and self-help skills is an integral part of our kinder program. Recently we have been unable to practice some of our food preparation and serving skills due to COVID-19 restrictions and so have decided to focus on these skills during individualised intentional teaching experiences. Using our child-safe KiddiKutter knives, we practiced how to safely and hygienically prepare a banana for our snack. ... This experience involved fine motor skills to peel the banana and safely manipulate the knife. We discussed the actions we needed to take to be safe when cutting and important hygiene steps such as washing our hands and using clean tools. After Savannah had finished cutting her banana she counted 13 pieces which she enjoyed for a morning snack!

04.01.2022 Many people will not be able to catch up with friends and family members for some time. These are often the people who will first notice any changes in your ability to cope. For now, you need to do those check-ins yourselves. Here are six things you should check-in on weekly. 1. Feelings ... Set an alarm on your phone, or a reminder in your calendar, so at a set time each week you can quickly do a check in on a scale from 0 (not at all) to 10 (extremely) of how stressed, anxious or down you are feeling. It is normal for these scores to go up and down each day and throughout the week but if you notice the scores are increasing and remaining very high, then its time to prioritise your mental health. 2. Body Take a moment to notice any tension in your body like tight shoulders, chest, or jaw. Other signs that you might be feeling stressed include dryness of the mouth, difficulty breathing, and a racing heart. 3. Sleep Have there been changes in your sleep pattern? If you are constantly struggling to get to sleep, waking in the night or waking earlier than usual and finding it difficult to get back to sleep, these are signs your mind is unable to switch off and relax. 4. Thoughts Are you always worrying about the worst-case scenarios? Wondering if things will ever get better or if you will be able to cope? Focusing on the what if scenarios is not useful and it is best to try to limit this as much as possible. 5. Reactions/behaviour Every day brings challenges but its how we deal with them which shows how were coping. If you find yourself frequently snapping at those you love, finding it extremely difficult to focus, or always depending on things like alcohol or food to cope, it is time to prioritise your mental wellbeing. 6. Check-in buddy Choose a check-in buddy. This may be your partner, housemate or even a friend or colleague youre keeping in touch with via video messaging. Be honest about how you are coping. Remember that you are in physical isolation, not social isolation. When were at home, we may need to be creative about adapting the strategies we normally use. For example, if socialising helps your mood, schedule a virtual coffee. If going to the gym helps you reduce stress, try an online workout. If taking time out helps, find a quiet place, take a few deep breaths, go for a walk or listen to music.
