23.01.2022 Djilba - Growing season (season of conception) August - September Djilba season is a time to look for the yellow and cream flowers starting on mass. Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two. This is the start of the massive flowering explosion that happens in the South West. This starts with the yellow flowering plants such as the Acacias. Also colours... that are around at this time of year are creams, combined with some vivid and striking blues. Traditionally, the main food sources included many of the land based grazing animals as in the season before. These included the Yongar (kangaroo), the Waitj (emu) and the Koomal (possum). As the days start to warm up, we start to see and hear the first of the new borns with their proud parent out and about providing them food, guiding them through foraging tasks and protecting their family units from much bigger animals, including people. The woodland birds will still be nest bound, hence the swooping protective behavior of the Koolbardi (Magpie) starts to ramp up and if watched closely, so to do the Djidi Djidi (Willy Wag Tails) and the Chuck-a-luck (Wattle Birds) to name a couple of others. As the season progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, we'll start to see the flower stalks of the Balgas (Grass Trees) emerging in preparation for the coming Kambarang season. See more

14.01.2022 2020 has been a big year for the world, for Australia and for our Goodstart team. Over the past few months people, families and communities have been tried and tested in the most extraordinary ways. As frontline essential workers our Goodstarters rose to this challenge, stepping up to support our 60,000 families and 71,000 children through an incredibly uncertain and challenging time.... So here at Goodstart weve declared this week Thank You Week, a week in which we celebrate and recognise our 10,000+ strong team who have gone above and beyond in the face of adversity. We have already had a few surprises today with promises of more to come for our centre teams! Needless to say we are feeling super excited! Say thank you on our Thank you Wall! Well be creating a special thank you wall in the centre where we can all share messages of love, support and thanks! In the foyer you will find little blank thank you notes where you can say thanks and shout out an educator who really made a difference. From us to you From the bottom of my heart I can say its been a privilege to have been able to support our children and families over the past few months. So while this week we are focusing on our Goodstart team I also wanted to say a big thanks to all of you. Thank you for being part of our Goodstart family and thank you for your wonderful support in what has been an incredibly life-changing year.

12.01.2022 What can Children tell us about Child Protection? Childrens voices lie at the heart of any of our work with children. When we are talking about childrens voices we are thinking about childrens expression of their meaning through their voice but also, other ways, such as art and crafts, dance, movement and behaviours, song, music, poetry, photography, drawing, drama and writing the hundred languages of children, to quote Loris Malaguzzi. We want to gather multiple ex...amples of children expressing when and how they feel safest and protected. #keepingchildrensafe Take the time to listen to what matters most to your child and share your child's voice with us via comments or [email protected]
