24.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC week with all this and more - Ochre painting, nature play, bush tucker exploration and dreamtime stories.

24.01.2022 This week’s Bush Kindy adventures included exploring new landscapes, collecting and comparing sticks, and gathering berries to feed the ‘bears’. We love getting out of the centre and into nature with children.

23.01.2022 We are currently looking for casual Educators to join the Goodstart team in the Newcastle area. Please share with anyone who you think may be interested. https://careers.goodstart.org.au//BROADMEADOW%/521655800/

23.01.2022 Outdoor play offers countless benefits to children. This seems to be well understood in Scotland despite their harsh climate. The rest of the world is beginning to take notice. Australian children certainly play outdoors, but do they do it enough?

22.01.2022 It takes a village to raise a child. Come join our village in 2019 at Goodstart Gateshead. We have a limited number of vacancies left for this year, but they are filling fast.

22.01.2022 Today at bush kindy we found this big rock in the middle of the path. It wasn’t there last time, and was a real conversation starter. ‘Where did it come from?’ ‘I think it fell out of the sky’ ‘Yeah, I think it’s a meteor’ ‘Yeah, it really is a meteor’ ... ‘No, meteors have holes in them’ ‘Yeah, it’s not a meteor’ We find so many things to wonder about every time we go to the bush. 21.01.2022 A new element of our reconciliation journey.

21.01.2022 Outdoor play is an important part of our daily routines for many reasons. It provides endless opportunities for children to engage in active play. Toddlers (1 to 3 years) and pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years) should be physically active every day for at least three hours, spread throughout the day. We encourage children to participate in a wide variety of physical activities - the most important thing is that they have fun while doing it so they can develop positive feelings about exercise.

17.01.2022 Lately our toddlers have been engaging in STEM experiences - Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths. Here they can be seen experimenting with a pulley system to explore ways of using force to lift things, which follows on from their interest in cranes. They have also been exploring paddle-pop stick catapults.

17.01.2022 Some of our preschool children went on an excursion today to a nearby reserve. As well as a picnic morning tea, activities included some good old-fashioned tree climbing and hill rolling.

15.01.2022 You may not know that we are a not-for-profit social enterprise - founded with a strong social purpose and a belief that all children, regardless of circumstanc...e should have access to high quality early learning. It shouldn't matter where a child lives, where their parents live, what a child's family circumstances are, all children should be able to start school equipped with the skills they need to start school (and life) on the right foot. #everychildmatters #nochildleftbehind #supportingthosemostvulnerable See more

13.01.2022 There is no doubt that leaving your child at an early learning centre for the first time can be a stressful experience - for both your child and for you as a parent. We've complied a few tips to help. https://www.goodstart.org.au//easing-your-child-into-a-new

13.01.2022 Learning and play are a natural fit for children. A child’s curiosity really ramps up in their toddler years, and there’s no better way to capitalise on their growing interests than through play-based learning.

13.01.2022 Come in and see how we learn through play, every day at Goodstart Gateshead. If you would like a tour of our centre please call (02) 4942 4411 or visit https://goodstart.org.au/enrol

11.01.2022 What a wonderful opportunity yesterday for our educators, and an important step in our reconciliation journey.

11.01.2022 At Goodstart Gateshead we are always looking for ways to involve children in caring for our natural environments, whether it is watering the gardens, making compost, or raking up leaf litter. ‘When children have direct experience with the natural world, they learn about nature. They also learn how to take care of natural environments.’ (The Goodstart Practice Guide)

09.01.2022 'Loose parts', including everyday items such as bottle tops, rocks, pegs, boxes, and fabric scraps, are always available for children to explore in our nurseries. According to the Goodstart Practice Guide, 'Open-ended materials and loose parts encourage children to test out ideas and problem-solve. Loose parts offer open-ended play opportunities where children do not use any specific set of directions or instructions for how to interact with the available materials.'

08.01.2022 Over the last week we have been busy celebrating Book Week with dress-ups, excursions, and so much reading! A big thankyou to St. Paul's School for hosting us twice, once for a visit to the library last week, and today our preschoolers joined in the school's book parade.

07.01.2022 Come join our village in 2020 at Goodstart Gateshead. Limited places still available, call us on (02)49424411 to book your centre tour.

06.01.2022 Children begin to develop literacy capabilities in their early years as they engage with a range of texts. The best thing we can do to support this process is read to children every day. Click here to learn more: https://www.goodstart.org.au//everyday-tips-for-developing

05.01.2022 Dear Families, Due to the hazardous quality of the air today we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s party. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are really sorry to disappoint the children, but have had to prioritise the health and safety of everyone concerned.... Kind Regards, Goodstart Gateshead Team

01.01.2022 From birth throughout early childhood children use their five senses to explore and try to make sense of the world around them. It’s an important part of early childhood development, and providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through ‘sensory play’ is crucial to brain development.

01.01.2022 "When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos. L.R. Knost
