23.01.2022 Next Wednesday 2 September is Early Childhood Educators' Day! This year it coincides with the start of spring and we thought what better way to celebrate than ...to say it with flowers! We are calling on our families to help fill our centres with greenery on this important day! It doesn’t matter whether you bring a plant from a shop, something from your garden or even a sneaky snip from the side of the road it will surely put a smile on the faces of our well-deserving teams! 22.01.2022 Happy 10th birthday Goodstart!

22.01.2022 Today we received a new resource for the children here at the centre. The resource included an Aboriginal Symbols matching game. The preschool 1 children spent some time this morning matching the small wooden symbols with the playing board. They then engaged in a discussion with their educators about what the symbols mean. The children are becoming more familiar with these Aboriginal symbols and culture. Thank you to Marara designs for this amazing new resource!

22.01.2022 One sleep to Early Childhood Educators' Day! Whether it be taking flowers and plants to your centre tomorrow, or sending them a photo of a picture your child has drawn - let's all bring a little sunshine to some very special people

21.01.2022 Don't forget about our wonderful Goodstart@Home service.

21.01.2022 Wishing all of our beautiful Mums a happy Mother’s Day

20.01.2022 Want to know why the girls have committed to doing 10000 steps each day for the month of August? Here's why... In 2014 Emma was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. She had two surgeries to remove the tumor, 4 rounds of chemotherapy and 6and a half weeks of radiation. Thankfully Emma is now 6 years cancer free!! She still has yearly mammograms and ultrasounds which will probably happen for the rest of her life. But also these two beautiful ladies who, unfortunate...ly, joined Emma as a breast cancer statistic. Viv was diagnosed in 2019 and is still fighting everyday and Rynny was diagnosed this year and has had her surgery and is also now a survivor! They say 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with breast cancer... these 3 ladies work together, so we must be above average!! Early detection is the best defence at this stage, so get in the shower and play with your boobs! You don't need to know what you are looking for, ANYTHING that feels different should be checked!!! If all we achieve out of this is to create awareness and help prevent anyone else from going through this, then I'll have reached my goal x If you can donate please do so https://fundraise.nbcf.org.au/fundrai/emmamclachlan/step-up

20.01.2022 Event Reminder!! We hope to see you all tonight.

15.01.2022 Introducing Aboriginal perspectives into our Preschool space.

15.01.2022 Experimenting with perceptions through water! This morning a child brought in some iris’s to share. We placed them in a vase. A group of children were seen pulling faces at one another through the water while giggling. Conversations were overheard, while the children laughed as they explained that each other’s faces looked different. "Your mouth and nose look so big." To extend the exploration of magnification through water we intentionally added a large Perspex box to the ta...ble. As educators we are quick to attempt to scaffold learning. At times we jump in with our intentions before we allow the children to hypothesise and express their own theories. So this morning we allowed the group to explore on their own. It was amazing to watch and listen as the children investigated what could and could not be seen through the water. Reflection, magnification, size, the movement of the water and seeing double were all explored deeply by the group. When one of the children placed their head on the table beside the box, it was amazing to see the reflection across more than one side of the box. - We also noticed that at times the reflection blocked us from seeing through the water. - Objects seemed larger then normal on the other side of the water - we saw a rainbow through the water. - the water moved with the table, creating patterns. - the square box looked narrow almost rectangular. In this afternoon’s group time we focussed on our water experiment. We reflected on our findings from this morning experiment. One child shared with us "that a rainbow is caused when the light reflects off of the water, just like when it rains." We then used a jar of water to hold between two children. We encouraged each pair to express what they could see Verbally. We found that each face was distorted in size, shape and overall look.. We then used an arrow drawn on a piece of paper. Confirming with the group that the arrow was pointing to the left , the Educator then passed it along behind the jar. With the reflection of the jar on the curved glass jar, the arrow appeared to be pointing in the opposite direction. The group were amazed. We reflected as a group on the refraction of light. With out any influence from the group another child raised her hand and explained that like the rainbow it was how the light reflected on the glass and water. So from a small interest this morning we have turned our whole day into an investigation around a simple container of water. The children have been very enthusiastic participants in their own learning, proving they can think deeply and critically. We have provided the tools and opportunity today but the group have lead their own learning and investigation.

15.01.2022 Our yarning circle is a part of our daily practice in our preschool space. The children enjoy having their moment to speak to the entire group.

11.01.2022 Let your child explore, create and discover through messy play! Children are naturally active learners and can learn so much through play. Play allows them to explore, discover, negotiate, take risks, create meaning and solve problems- all important foundations for developing literacy, numeracy and social skills.

11.01.2022 Happy Educators Day!!! Thank you to our team for the amazing work you do each and everyday! #superhero’s

11.01.2022 Provocations for learning.... over the last few weeks we have been exploring gender and early literacy as mini projects within the P2 program. As educators our ultimate goal is to shape minds and make a difference and today we saw first hand how much impact we have on young children. Early Literacy Our P2 children have been exploring literacy concepts and story writing as an extension of our school readiness programs. The children authored and illustrated their own stories f...rom their ideas and we shared them with the group in the lead up to book week. Gender During our group experiences we read a series of stories. The books involved topics that challenged gender norms, identities and stereotypes to create a deeper understanding of acceptance. Research has shown us that the concept of gender predominantly forms between the ages of three and seven. We know that this type of gendered interactions could occur at school and we wanted to prepare our children for this. Sammy’s interpretation of the material from the two projects demonstrated the higher order thinking all children are capable of..... Please listen to Sammy’s story written and illustrated to match his book week costume.

04.01.2022 "Why do kids go up the slide? They are seeking risk and challenge in their play. Kids feel powerful scaling the slide. Going up the slide is fun. It's healthy a...dventure, often part of imaginative play. Climbing the slide helps kids test their strength, find their limits and gain balance, spatial awareness, and yes, social awareness and consideration." -Heather Shumaker Learning Through Experience (Sunflower pillar) #RememberPlay #SharedWisdom Join The Sunflower Circle: https://qoo.ly/33udfp
