25.01.2022 The Pre Kindy children have shown an interest in tigers, in particular the colours and patterns on the tigers fur coats. To extend on this interest the children painted their interpretations of tigers, choosing the paint colours for this experience.

25.01.2022 Bee Exploration We have continued our bug world interest in the preschool room and have been researching about bees. The children have showed such a strong interest that we decided to take our learning and document it on the wall. The children have sketched and painted their own interpretation of a bee. We have watched numerous educational videos on bees and read lots of stories. The preschoolers have gathered and retained a lot of information and their voices have been displayed on the wall for everyone to read.

24.01.2022 Goodstart Early Learning Kelso would like to thank Lions Club of Bathurst Inc for their generous book donation. Each child in our centre will receive a book to take home.

23.01.2022 We use Magna tiles in Toddlers to not only teach colour and shape but physics, design, math architecture. The children are able to engage in critical thinking skills and explore cause and effect.

23.01.2022 Book week 2020 Last week the children were able to extend on their passion for early literature as they participated in book week. The children were able to come dressed as their favourite book character while also bringing in their favourite book. The children were able to feel a sense of belonging and community involvement.

22.01.2022 The Preschool children have been talking about Christmas, how they celebrate with their families and what gifts they would like from Santa. Today we practised our writing and early literacy skills by writing letters to Santa. We visited our local Newsagency to purchase stamps then posted them to the North Pole!

22.01.2022 School Readiness At the start of the year the preschoolers were signing in and out of the room with name rocks. As the year has progressed and we are nearly half way through the year, it was time for the children to start signing into the room by writing their name. This gives them the opportunity to recognise their written name and develop their school readiness skills ready for school next year.

21.01.2022 On Friday the Pre Kindy children dressed as pirates for National Talk like a Pirate Day and raised money for children’s cancer. We even found a pirate map and went on a treasure hunt for delicious, gold coins!

20.01.2022 MESSY PLAY The nursery children have been experimenting with water, coloured rice, goop, cloud dough and other sensory play experiences. Messy play helps children to develop and improve their fine motor skills, co-ordination and concentration and also gives them an opportunity to learn how to work cooperatively and collaboratively with their peers. The children use all of their senses to discover and explore their environment, develop their imagination, creative thinking and problem solving skills.

19.01.2022 The Toddler room have recently been becoming interested in socio dramatic play in home corner, creating drinks and meals for each other and their teachers. This has lead to them becoming more interested in what Sam does in the kitchen. Recently we were lucky enough to have Sam come in and cook some Scones with us. The children loved to mix the flour and roll their own scone balls ready to put into the oven. The best part was getting to taste them once they were cooked with a splash of jam.

19.01.2022 This week in the Nursery, we set up a 'messy play' sensory experience. By providing an open ended material like shredded paper, children can feel confident to join in because it requires no predetermined skills or abilities. The children explored the shredded paper by throwing it up into the air, placing it on top of their head and feeling it fall dawn, and some even layed in it. You can tell by the smiles that we had lots of fun!

19.01.2022 Following our centre philosophy we, in the Pre Kindy room, believe that teaching the children about sustainability and how to care for their environment is essential. Throughout Enviroweek we have been discussing how we can care for our natural world through reusing, recycling and reducing waste. The children have been repurposing everyday waste to create new and useful creations for their homes.

18.01.2022 Over the last few weeks we have been busy in the nursery engaging with a range of resources to help develop our fine motor skills. Through these experiences, we are also building our social, emotional, problem solving and langauge skills. Have a look what we have been up to!

18.01.2022 In the Nursery room we have been busy exploring cooking. We have recently added baking utensils to our home corner which have been a hit with the children. To expand from cooking role play we have baked cupcakes and muffins with Charlotte and Jordan. Cooking actives are wonderful opportunities for children to have practical firsthand experience of exploring the world of food. Not only do the children learn how food is prepared but they are also able to extend on they vocabul...ary. It’s important to encourage each child’s language development through cooking by: talking to children about how the food smells, tastes, looks and feels, explaining how heat changes food, and the names of various foods. Cooking appeals to children’s senses and provides a wealth of learning opportunities. Each child in the nursery room had a special contribution to help bake the goods. What a yummy treat to have for afternoon tea!

18.01.2022 Lots of little helpers today putting some new seeds in our garden beds.

18.01.2022 Recently in the nursery we have been exploring our senses through touch, taste and smell. We have investigated with peas, oats, pasta, lemons and oranges. The children are using their sensory capabilities and dispositions with increasing integration, skill and purpose to explore and respond to their world.

18.01.2022 National Tree Day Today we celebrated National Tree Day. The Pre Kindy children planted a plum tree kindly donated by Bathurst Bunnings. The children worked together to dig a hole, plant the tree and water it. As we dug the hole we were excited to discover earthworms. The children were able to recall their knowledge from their worm farm and discuss facts on earthworms together. Thank you to the families who donated plants to our centre.

18.01.2022 BUG WORLD!! Recently the preschoolers have shown an interest in bugs, after a child found a caterpillar outside. We have researched and explored caterpillars and have now moved onto butterflies. We recently found that Bathurst has a native butterfly, the Purple Copper Butterfly. The preschools have been on the lookout to see if they can find one as they are now endangered. The children have been able to explore their world through our bug world environment set up in our room. We walked to the shops next door to buy some pasta for a butterfly lifecycle that we are going to create. Over the coming weeks we are going to continue to explore this interest.

15.01.2022 The Toddlers have been enjoying exploring colour and patterns with our light up blocks. These blocks change colour as you turn them, providing a great opportunity to explore cause and effect. The children are able to sort and catergorise the blocks as they change colour.

15.01.2022 OUR SOLAR SYSTEM Recently in the preschool room we have been learning about the solar system. We have been exploring planets through technology. We started by putting glitter stars on the projector and watched as the stars grew. The children were mesmerized as they watched the light project onto the wall and ceiling. The children watched as we made different pictures using a variety of loose parts including bottle top lids, feathers and Styrofoam balls. After we had ...finished making different pictures, the children asked if they could draw their own pictures to project onto the wall. Each child drew different pictures ranging from the whole solar system, the moon, stars and the sun, planets, rocket ships, meteors, asteroids and astronauts. The children are developing an understanding of the world in which they live in and the environment around them. The preschoolers have explored technology and science through STEM See more

15.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educator Day to our amazing team at Goodstart Kelso!!!

15.01.2022 At Goodstart Gilmour St we have been busy in the garden growing our own fruit and veg. Over the last two weeks we have been able to enjoy some of our delicious produce. The children love helping to pick and sample the apples and pears and have recently found some pumpkins and cucumbers starting to grow. Growing our own fruits and vegetables helps encourage the children to try new things and become aware of sustainable practices as we learn how to help our produce grow.

13.01.2022 With all this rain and beautiful sunshine our veggie patches are looking great. The children all love checking on their progress each day. Gardening is such a great way to let the children explore the natural environment. The opportunities for learning are endless!

13.01.2022 At Goodstart Kelso we have two friendly chickens who the children have affectionately named Coco and Violet. During the day it is the children’s responsibility to care for the chickens, including feeding them scraps and collecting the eggs they have laid. The chickens assist in teaching children respect for living creatures, responsibility and are part of our sustainable practices.

08.01.2022 The Preschool children explored the technology involved in sewing. Under the close supervision of our educator Di they each zig-zagged some material pieces. They discovered that it takes a lot of coordination to press the pedal with their foot and feed material through the machine at the same time. These pieces were then used by Di to create a special story apron for the Nursery staff to use in small group experiences. The Preschool children were very proud of their effort, and were eager to tell other educators which pocket they had contributed.

08.01.2022 Thank you Munch & Move - Western NSW for the $250 gift voucher. We used it to purchase resources to educate the children on healthy eating.

07.01.2022 Smart is not just ticks and crosses Smart is building boats from boxes Painting patterns, wheeling wagons Being mermaids or riding dragons... This week in the Pre Kindy room we have been reading the book All The Ways To Be Smart. This story has encouraged conversations with the children on how we are all unique individuals and that we are smart in our own special ways. To recognise our uniqueness the children drew beautiful self portraits. The children were encouraged to tell educators how they are smart or what they are great at....

06.01.2022 Today we had a special visit from the Carillon Junior Theatrical Society who performed Christmas carols for all the rooms. The children loved clapping and singing along!!!

05.01.2022 The preschoolers are able to create and use representations to organise and communicate mathematical ideas and concepts. They are able to demonstrate an increasing understanding of the names and orders of numbers.

04.01.2022 Our nursery educators are qualified early childhood professionals, experienced in caring for babies from six weeks of age. We know how important building secure relationships... is, which is why each child has a Key Educator, someone who is their primary person and attuned to their individual needs. See more

04.01.2022 In the Toddler room we have been busy exploring emotions. Providing experiences revolving around emotions is perfect for engaging the children with recognising, thinking and talking about their feelings. This is an important first step in the process of learning to manage emotions.

03.01.2022 Sea Exploration In the Pre Kindy room we feel it’s important for the children to have a voice in their environment as we believe children learn and engage more in a space based on their interests. This month after group discussions and brain storming the children decided on a beach. Educators set up a beach which sparked conversations and interests about sea animals. The children have been fascinated with the sizes/lengths of these animals and learning about different sea animals especially sharks!

02.01.2022 One of our beautiful preschool families kindly donated some balance bikes to the centre as we farewelled one of their children off to school this year. Thank you so much for your kind donation.

02.01.2022 Merry Christmas from all the team at Goodstart. We hope you all have a wonderful and safe Christmas.

02.01.2022 In the Nursery as the children settle in we have been offering process art experiences. Process art allows the children to experiment with making, exploring and discovering and focuses on the investigation of the materials and the discovery of the process. In process art, each piece is unique. We have been displaying the children’s completed artworks in our ‘Art Gallery.’ This allows the children to see the value in their work and gives them the opportunity to share these creations with their peers, educators, families and other visitors to the centre.
