25.01.2022 How awesome is this The Very Hungry Caterpillar play space in celebration of Book Week

25.01.2022 Our fantastic chef, Dean, whipped us up some amazing platters for our Christmas Party this evening!

25.01.2022 Hands up who loves unicorns? Today is the launch of the Great Australian Storybook Collection and Thelma the Unicorn is the star! Head out to your local newsage...nt or IGA to grab your newspaper and free copy of the book, along with a free Collector Case to kick-start your collection! In the meantime, here's a little bit about Thelma... Thelma dreams of being a glamorous unicorn. Then in a rare pink and glitter-filled moment of fate (we're sure it's environmentally friendly glitter of course), Thelma's wish comes true. She rises to instant international stardom, but at an unexpected cost. Tip for families You can bring the story to life at home and encourage conversation about self-love by reading the book together and exploring with your child about what makes them special. Maybe they might want to draw pictures of the things they enjoy or are good at? For more info about the collection visit https://www.goodstart.org.au/storybook #KidsBookCollection

25.01.2022 During these uncertain times we want to reassure you that we are open, safe and ready to welcome all our current and new families. As Australia's largest provider of early learning and care with 665 centres we are here to support in every community, in every state across Australia.

25.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year - 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Reconciliation must live in the hearts..., minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We invite you to join in the learning about National Reconciliation Week at home through Goodstart@Home which is free for Goodstart families. Listen and learn from the stories and activities on the site. Take a moment to explore how you can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia: athome.goodstart.org.au

23.01.2022 Its Dental Hygiene Week this week (3 9 August), so weve created some fun activities you can do with your toddlers to encourage them to brush their teeth on our Goodstart@Home website. These activities are easy to do and a great way to support the development and understanding of dental hygiene and teeth brushing techniques. This years Dental Hygiene Week theme is all about sugar and How much sugar is hiding is your trolley? Wed like to encourage families to be mindful... of hidden sugars in food. Making healthy choices at the supermarket extends to making similar smart food and drink choices at home. Early childhood tooth decay can affect your childs health and cause pain, making it hard for your child to sleep, eat or speak. It can also affect your childs ability to concentrate and learn. Children who develop dental decay at an early age are more likely to suffer from it throughout childhood. To find out more about Dental Health Week visit the ADAs Your Dental Health website: https://www.ada.org.au/tips

23.01.2022 Fathers Day is on Sunday 6 September and Goodstart@Home has some great ideas for families who are looking for a gift thats from the heart. One of the Fathers Day activities for 3-5 year olds is Building a Memory Jar. We would love to see some photos or videos of memory jars being created for the special Dads (and other males!) of the children at our centre. Other lovely activity ideas are a Do you know how much I love you? photo book for babies, or for toddlers; creati...ng a Helping hand book of coupons for help getting things done around the house or garden. We hope all the Dads have a wonderful Fathers Day!

23.01.2022 Last week, Matt from our Junior Kindy Room was privileged enough to attend The Indigenous S.T.E.M summit through the United Workers Union. Throughout the week he was able to participate in a number of presentations, and has come back with some incredible ideas to implement throughout our centre. Some of the areas that were included throughout the week included;... -Science including biology and other areas -Technology including tools and other equipment -Engineering with a good discussion around fish traps amongst many other things -Mathematics with an introduction to indigenous number systems As our centre Cultural Specialist, Matt will be supporting the teams in all our rooms to facilitate the inclusion of Indigenous Australian culture into their rooms. Today Matt shared with the Junior Kindy children the story of the Emu in the Sky; The Emu in the Sky is a well-known Aboriginal Astronomical constellation that's outlined by dark areas of the night sky, not the stars. To find it, first locate the Southern Cross constellation above the southern horizon. Two bright stars directly above due south are the Pointers to the Southern Cross (photo of the Emu in the Sky (Information and image from http://www.abc.net.au) The children engaged in the story of the Emu in the Sky with Matt and were able to recreate this as a group throughout the morning.

23.01.2022 We think its safe to say that 2020 has been a year unlike any other. For the world, for Australia and for our Goodstart team. Over the past few months people, ...families and communities have been tried and tested in the most extraordinary ways. As frontline essential workers our Goodstarters rose to this challenge, stepping up to support our 60,000 families and 71,000 children through some incredibly challenging times. So weve declared this week Thank You Week! A week to celebrate and recognise our 10,000+ Goodstarters for continuing to go above and beyond in face of adversity. We have a few special surprises planned for our Goodstarters this week, but in the meantime we'd love for our Goodstart families to get involved too! Please share your messages of thanks and support below and tag an educator or a centre who has really made a difference. #ThankYouWeek #InThisTogether

18.01.2022 What more perfect a way could there be for children to enjoy and celebrate their relationships with their grandparents than embarking on a learning adventure with them? Perhaps they could use the Send a Hug activity card to become pen pals? In these times when it can be hard to connect in person, this is the perfect way to give children’s early literacy and understanding a boost, not to mention making each other’s day when they check the letterbox and find a life-sized cut out of a hug inside! 11.01.2022 Dear families, We’re sharing this poster with every family at our centre today as part of a reminder to ourselves that while we’ve been working to keep everyone safe from COVID-19 for nearly nine months now we can’t afford to let our guard down. We’re using this poster to take a moment each day to check we’re still doing all the simple things we need to do as part of the local community to keep ourselves and our friends and family safe and well. If your child isn’t feeling ...well, please keep them home and support us to reduce the spread of illness in our centre. Thanks again for helping keep everyone at Goodstart Mawson Lakes by following this simple guide because COVID-19 is still a thing.

11.01.2022 Were super excited to share our passion for early literacy with families all across Australia, by supporting the launch of NewsCorps Great Australian Storybook Collection on February 8. We know a book a day can make all the difference for a childs early literacy, and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to share our passion for reading in the early years with Australias families. There is nothing more special than sharing magical moments bonding over a much-loved book.... Research also tells us that in the first five years, a childs brain is rapidly developing and forming connections at a faster rate than any other time of their life - these connections are strengthened by language and literacy learning experiences. The more words a child hears through conversations with an adult in their early years really makes a difference to their life outcomes. The Great Australian Storybook Collection promotion runs from Saturday 8th February to Saturday 22nd February and will feature 15 books in total! The first book Thelma the Unicorn is available for free on Saturday 8th February, along with a free collector case when you buy a participating NewsCorp Australia newspaper. The rest will be released day by day until the end of the promotion, digital subscribers across the country can also buy the whole collection online. Together, we can inspire the next generation of young readers so lets launch into literacy today! For further information about the collection visit https://kidsbookcollection.com.au/

10.01.2022 We will be taking donations at the centre to pass onto the SES if anyone would like to drop off any medication supplies.

10.01.2022 This stage in your child's life is crucial. Make it count. In the first five years of life, your childs brain develops faster and more than at any other time in their life. Children need a stimulating and caring environment with many different activities to give them the best chance to reach their full potential. If you're looking for childcare, we have vacancies available. Book a Tour with our Centre Director now: https://www.goodstart.org.au/cent/mawson-lakes-avocet-drive

09.01.2022 Hi Goodstart families! As you know the Government announced today that the 'free childcare' package will expire on 12 July and that the CCS system will return f...rom 13 July, along with new transition measures (up until October) to support the sector and parents as they move back to the subsidy. This announcement is a little bit complex so we are working hard to understand what this means for our families and for Goodstart. We will provide an update to our centres and our families later today and over the coming days as we learn more. #5weekstogo! See more
