25.01.2022 This mornings cooler weather had the children gathering to experiences set up in the warmth of the sun. Our outdoor block construction was a go to for many children this morning; catering for children from our Toddler children right up to our Kindergarten age children. Manipulative play helps build a childs sense of spatial awareness. Through manipulative use of block building activities, children learn how things fit (or do not fit).
25.01.2022 Clay- A wonderful, natural resource from the earth that provides sensory stimulation while helping to develop fine motor skills. Children receive immediate tactile and visual feedback from working with clay and as their skills develop they can use it is a medium to express their ideas. Clay was added to our outdoor environment today with the children experimenting with pinching, squishing, pulling and squeezing.

19.01.2022 Ever wonder whats going on inside those magical minds? At Goodstart Middle Park, we encourage open ended, hands on enquiry that sparks creativity and exploration. Todays water play episode sparked curiosity around measurement, colour mixing, comparison and experimentation. I used 20 lids to fill this jar

16.01.2022 Our sensory tables provide endless opportunities for discovery. Today we added shaving cream, glitter and our alphabet boards. Each child approached the tables differently; some were hands in while others took some time to build the confidence to get their hands messy. Not only was this a sensory dream but also a fun approach to exploring letter formation.

15.01.2022 Children develop understandings of themselves and their world through active, hands-on investigation. A supportive active learning environment encourages childrens engagement in learning which can be recognised as deep concentration and complete focus on what captures their interests. Children bring their being to their learning. They have many ways of seeing the world, different processes of learning and their own preferred learning styles.
14.01.2022 Developing social skills in children prepares them for a lifetime of healthier interactions in all aspects of life. Displaying good manners, communicating effectively with others, being considerate of the feelings of others and expressing personal needs are all important components of solid social skills. Helping children to develop these important skills requires a different set of strategies in each stage of development.
13.01.2022 We have some Dinosaur visitors in the sandpit this morning. An invitation for learning is usually set out by educators to intrigue or entice childrens further exploration and investigation.

12.01.2022 This week in Pre Kindy we began our exploration of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The children have enjoyed making play dough caterpillars, following pattern recognition, making caterpillar fruit skewers with grapes and strawberries, and completing puzzles to strengthen their numeracy skills.
12.01.2022 Todays invitation to play supports the childrens enquiry into road rules and road safety. Educators used our road set up to explore the childrens prior knowledge while looking for opportunities to extend and have discussions with the children.
12.01.2022 Investigative play ideas bubble up from within children themselves, not to meet an external goal but to satisfy their own needs. Children then choose how to play out their ideas. They direct and change play scenarios as needed. The end result is usually a rich, creative and deeply satisfying experience. After reading Wombat Stew, our Kindergarten children were eager to get their hands and feet dirty in our mud kitchen and create their very own Ooey Gooey Wombat stew.

06.01.2022 Social and emotional skills are at the heart of the Early Years Learning Framework: Being, Belonging and Becoming. Today we shared the story In my Heart by Jo Witek. This beautiful book is a great tool in building childrens knowledge around different emotions and is a great conversation starter. Putting feelings into words- As children learn to use language we can help them to put feelings into words instead of action. We might say, I can see that you feel sad and cross that someone took your toy but we dont hit. Tell Tommy how you felt when she took your toy and that you dont like it. We may have to give them the words at first and monitor the telling.
06.01.2022 Our Toddler Room’s programming focus this week is on sensory play to further develop fine motor skills and coordination. 02.01.2022 Loose part play Loose parts are basically any loose, tactile materials that children can move about during play and exploration. They are versatile, open ended and can be added to any learning environment. Children use loose parts to make, build, experiment and invent. Loose part play invites children to explore and discover, imagine and create, enquire and experiment, play and tinker about as they build on their developmental skills in a supportive learning environment. Today the children used our loose part wooden pieces to explore the shapes, lines and directions of the letters of the alphabet.
