23.01.2022 A day in the life of our Nursery children

21.01.2022 National Physical Guidelines Australia | Physical Activity Recommendations for Children 0-5 years Being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth and development of infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. For infants (birth to one year) physical activity particularly supervised floor-based play in safe environments should be encouraged from birth. Before infants begin to crawl, encourage them to be physically active by reaching and grasping, pulling a...nd pushing, moving their head, body and limbs during daily routines, and during supervised floor play, including tummy time. Once infants are mobile, encourage them to be as active as possible in a safe, supervised and nurturing play environment. Toddlers (1 to 3 years) & Pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years) should be physically active every day for at least three hours, spread throughout the day. Young children don't need to do their three hours of physical activity all at once. It can be accumulated throughout the day and can include light activity like standing up, moving around and playing as well as more vigorous activity like running and jumping. Active play is the best way for young children to be physically active. Children younger than 2 years of age should not spend any time watching television or using other electronic media (DVDs, computer and other electronic games) and for children 2 to 5 years of age these activities should be limited to less than one hour per day. Television, DVDs and playing computer games usually involve sitting for long periods time which could be spent playing active games or interacting with others. Infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers should not be sedentary, restrained, or kept inactive, for more than one hour at a time, with the exception of sleeping. All children need some "down time but they are not naturally inactive for long periods of time. Sitting in strollers, highchairs and car seats (restrained) for long periods isnt good for childrens health and development. Try to take regular breaks on long car trips and walk or pedal for short trips when you can. While meeting these recommendations may seem like a challenge at times, a brochure that includes tips and ideas to help you include more activity in your childs day and further information on the recommendations can be found at National Physical Activity Recommendations for Children 0-5 years. (you can find more information on these guidelines at eatmovelive.com.au)

13.01.2022 How do we ensure sun safety in our Centre? "We recognise the need for a healthy balance of sun exposure in children, while ensuring children are protected from harmful UV rays. We implement sun safety procedures which are tailored to suit our climate. These procedures include things like:... Documenting the sun protection times on playground checklists. Setting up outdoor play areas to take advantage of daily shade patterns. Taking sun protection measures before engaging in any outdoor play on any day with a UV level of three or above. Monitoring children and guiding them to shade or indoors if they are not wearing or are removing protective clothing. Not exposing babies under 12 months to direct sun when the UV level is three or above, and only small amounts of sun when the UV level is lower. Being aware of the signs of heat stress and heat-related illness. Encouraging regular drinking of water. Taking an individual approach to sun safety and encouraging parents to supply their own sunscreen for children with known skin allergies, however, Sunscreen is supplied in our Centre. Learning experiences about sun safety awareness are also built into our educational programs, to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and families." Content www.goodstart.org.au If you would like to know more about our beautiful Centre please contact our Centre Director Brooke Clarke on 3217 9400 to organise a tour.

13.01.2022 Miss Parasto is engaging in a small group time with our Senior Toddler children. Here at Morningside - Junction Road, we believe in taking time to initiate small groups to help children feel safe, secure and connected. Toddler circle time can be tricky with short attention spans and lots of energy. Keeping them engaged is important. We do this by letting children self select what they would like to explore in their group time.

They help children perform important tasks like feeding themselves, grasping toys, buttoning and zipping clothes, writing, drawing, and more.

07.01.2022 Play dough is a great sensory experience which can be used by children of all ages to manipulate. They can squish it, punch it, thump it, roll it, press it and more. It develops a childs hand eye co-ordination, improves motor skills and sparks creativity. Our Senior toddlers increased their experience by adding natural resources for an even better textured experience.

07.01.2022 a wonderful quote to remind you of the importance of love and affection for children, building connections and trust, in assisting with children through their milestones and developmental growth.

06.01.2022 WE LOVE SLEEP! Most toddlers (children between the age of 1 and 3 years) need between 12 and 14 hours of sleep over a 24-hour period. This may be split up between nighttime sleeping and a nap or two during the daytime. It may take several weeks of experimenting before you discover what works best for your toddler.

06.01.2022 WE HAVE NATIVE BEES. Our lovely Pre Kindy teacher has organised some native bees for out center. The team at Native Bees have kindly donated some to our center. What an amazing learning experience. Sting-less bees, sometimes called sting-less honey bees or simply meliponines, are a large group of bees, comprising the tribe Meliponini. They belong in the family Apidae, and are closely related to common honey bees, carpenter bees, orchid bees, and bumblebees!

06.01.2022 A day in the life of Pre Kindergarten. Check out what the Pre- Kindy children get up to. Fine motor skills: Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, feet and toes. They involve smaller actions such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and even blinking. These two motor skills work together to provide coordination. Getting our hands dirty: According to the Hygiene Hypothesis, exposure to dirt, pets and everyday germs is good for the body and the soul. The health benefits of dirt include a stronger immune system, fewer allergies, better digestion, less heart disease, better stress management and a natural anti-depressant agent.

06.01.2022 What a day looks like in the Nursery at Junction Road. As you can see - loads of smiles, group time, singing and much more. The children enjoy indoor exploration as much as they do outdoor! Play is a crucial part of your childs development. Play is central to your childs learning. When your child plays, it gives them lots of different ways and times to learn. Play also helps your child/baby; build confidence, feel loved, happy and safe, develop social skills, language and communication, learn about caring for others and the environment and develop physical skills :)

05.01.2022 Children benefit from having multiple opportunities throughout the day to develop fine motor skills and finger dexterity using a variety of manipulative (e.g., magnetic letters, pegboards) and writing implements. A correct pencil grip will enable the writer to move the fingers, controlling the pencil or pen with efficient finger movements. In our Kindy room here at Junction Road, we are encouraging children to learn through creativity and support them in their writing journey

03.01.2022 Let your imagination soar! Children throughout the ages have enjoyed dressing up in costumes and engaging in dramatic role playing. Whether your child is a dragon, a princess, or a fairy, your childs brain is going into high gear when she puts on a costume! And although it may appear to you as just play, when your child dons that cape, crown, or pirates eye-patch, his brain is developing in more ways than you can imagine. As early childhood educators know, play is the work ...of the child, and children benefit cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally through dress-up play. Here at Junction Road Moringside - our Pre Kindy kids show us how its done!

02.01.2022 Our Pre Kindy room is designed for children aged 3-4yo. Here we extend on childrens learning in a play based envronment. If you would like to see our wonderful Pre Kindy room you can book a tour here https://www.goodstart.org.au/book-a-tour

02.01.2022 We had some fun in the sun in our nursery today! Providing babies with quality care and education includes offering positive experiences in the natural outdoor environment. No matter the season, outdoor environments afford unique and abundant opportunities for babies to engage in play based learning and sensory activities, which is critical for their developing brains. Outdoor experiences can provide an opportunity to explore, discover and appreciate the natural world, as well as be active, strengthen fine and gross motor movement skills, test physical limits and get messy. LINKS TO THE NATIONAL QUALITY STANDARD Quality Area 3 Physical Environment 3.2.1 Outdoor and indoor spaces are organised and adapted to support every childs participation and to engage every child in quality experiences in both built and natural environments.
