23.01.2022 At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. Using the COSP model developed by the Circle of Security originators, our trained Facilitators work with parents and care-giv...ers to help them to: Understand their childs emotional world by learning to read emotional needs Support their childs ability to successfully manage emotions Enhance the development of their child's self esteem Honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure See more

23.01.2022 "Sleep is the power source that keeps your mind alert and calm. Every night and at every nap, sleep recharges the brain's battery. Sleeping well increases brainpower just as weight lifting builds stronger muscles, because sleeping well increases your attention span and allows you to be physically relaxed and mentally alert at the same time. Then you are at your personal best." Essentials of Healthy Sleep Healthy sleep requires:... A sufficient amount of sleep Uninterrupted (good quality) sleep The proper number of age-appropriate naps A sleep schedule that is in sync with the child's natural biological rhythms (internal clock or circadian rhythm)

21.01.2022 'The Wheels On The Bus' Singing in the Early Years Singing encourages a child to express their emotions and sharpens their ability to communicate while exercising lip and tongue movement. But one of the biggest benefits of singing is the repeated use of the 'memory muscle'. ... The majority of children learn the alphabet not by simply saying the letters but singing them.

20.01.2022 Fine motor skills are the development and ability to use small muscle movements and are necessary for many aspects of every day life. From birth to eight years, children continually acquire, refine and consolidate their motor functions and skills and integrate their skills across domains (2016). The kindergarten children developed these fundamental skills by using their finger and hand strength to cut along lines drawn onto paper. The opening and closing motion of cutting with scissors helps children to develop the small muscles in their hands otherwise known as fine motor skills. These muscles are crucial for holding a pencil or crayon as well as gripping and manipulating objects.

20.01.2022 At Goodstart, we’re for not letting anything get in the way of early learning. We understand, and see first-hand the power of early learning in transforming children’s lives and that’s why keeping childcare affordable is very important to us. Here’s a video from our National Social Inclusion Lead, Penny Markham sharing our commitment to you and fee-relief options available to families facing financial hardship. https://vimeo.com/530602163/974526a7fc

16.01.2022 Two children within the kindergarten room constructed their own learning this morning as they selected and engaged in a cognitive and problem solving activity of cup stacking. Cup stacking is a simple yet rewarding activity which assists in several areas of development as it allows the child to use both hands in motion together (bilateral coordination). These two children continued to practice this activity and eventually turned it into a race of who could stack all their cups the quickest.

12.01.2022 A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal statement of commitment to reconciliation. Our early learning service has developed a RAP using the Narragunnawali platform to register and extend on existing initiatives or to begin a new journey. This is our second edition and is in draft and waiting to be published. We are so excited to continue on this journey of reconciliation.

10.01.2022 A nice little midweek reminder

10.01.2022 The kindergarten room are focusing on developing the childrens sense of place by exploring their community as well as their place within their local community. A sense of place comes from a feeling of connectedness, be it physical, emotional, or spiritual, to a specific geographic area (Relph 1976). Developing a sense of place through geographic experiences helps build the social and emotional foundation children need and will one day use as adults. To achieve this sense of place and understanding of community the children constructed their own town using photos of places they frequently visit and coloured paper.

10.01.2022 2020 has been a big year for the world, for Australia and for our Goodstart team. Over the past few months people, families and communities have been tried and tested in the most extraordinary ways. As frontline essential workers our Goodstarters rose to this challenge, stepping up to support our 60,000 families and 71,000 children through an incredibly uncertain and challenging time.... So here at Goodstart weve declared this week Thank You Week, a week in which we celebrate and recognise our 10,000+ strong team who have gone above and beyond in the face of adversity. From the bottom of my heart I can say its been a privilege to have been able to support our children and families over the past few months. So, while this week we are focusing on our Goodstart team I also wanted to say a big thanks to all of you. Thank you for being part of our Goodstart family and thank you for your wonderful support in what has been an incredibly life-changing year.

09.01.2022 Literacy is the basis for your child's ability to read, write, communicate and socialise. You can develop your child's early literacy by communicating with your child, reading, and playing with rhyme. Early literacy development is about everyday, fun activities like singing, talking and playing games. Today the Toddies read Goldilocks and the three bears and cooked porridge like in the story.

09.01.2022 This week the children in the Kindergarten room and across the centre will be developing their connectedness and cultural awareness as they engage in a variety of Easter themed experiences as the Easter Bunnys arrival quickly approaches

08.01.2022 Learning about diversity and various cultures which differ from our own teaches young children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children as well as helping them to understand and respect that we are all human despite differences in how we look, speak, dress, what we eat or how we celebrate events. The Kindergarten children have eagerly been learning about cultural diversity and today t...hey listened as their educator read them the Dreamtime story called How the Birds got their Colours told by Mary Albert and compiled by Pamela Lofts. According to the Dreamtime story, birds all used to be black and have no colour. One day, a bird landed on a sharp branch, which cut into his foot and made it swell, all the birds except the crow came to his aid and looked after him until the swelling broke, releasing colour into the world. Suddenly, all the birds who had helped the injured one were bestowed with bright, colourful feathers. The crow however, who had not helped the injured bird, remained black. As a follow on activity from the Dreamtime Story an activity had been set up at the group tables which required the children to use their imaginative, creative and fine motor skills as they created their own bird using playdough, googly eyes and an array of colourful feathers.

08.01.2022 Cooking Gamja Jorim ( ) This week in the kindergarten room we delved further into developing the children's identity and connectedness by focusing on exploring the world around us to promote an inclusive and multicultural environment. We ended our week by preparing a popular Korean side dish called Algamja Jorim, which are soy sauce braised baby potatoes. With the help of the children we prepared the dish and patiently awaited the potatoes to be cooked before enjoying th...em alongside our lunch. Learning about other cultures and diversity teaches young children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children as well as helping them to understand and respect that we are all human despite differences in how we look, speak, dress, what we eat or how we celebrate events. 08.01.2022 Say ’No’ to bullying! Be a buddy, not a bully!

08.01.2022 WHY IS TRANSITIONING SO IMPORTANT TO OUR CHILDREN? We know that happy, well settled children learn better and have higher well-being. We know that children need support to adjust and move from place to place, person to person. If we hold children in the highest regard and place highest priority on their needs, then a transition plan that caters for their needs is essential. A healthy and thorough key-person approach is essential. "Achieving excellence in the early years: a g...uide for headteachers" (page 85) states The role of the Key Person also continues to have great importance since he or she can provide emotional security for children and parents. In establishing a close working relationship with parents the Key Person can support children through the transition from home to school or setting. Failure to make such links places an unjustifiable burden on the child - who must then themselves act as a bridge between the two.

06.01.2022 ANZAC Day is one of Australias most important national commemorative occasions. ANZAC Day makes the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The children within the Kindergarten room celebrated together, a day early, by exploring the importance of ANZAC Day and why it is celebrated before engaging in an arts and craft activity where they made their own ANZAC wreaths. Learning about ANZAC Day builds a childs connectedness, sense of identity and sense of place as it helps them to understand the life and times of Australia and its people. The ceremony and traditions are such an integral part of our culture that it gives us an opportunity to talk to children about the importance of ANZAC Day.

06.01.2022 Did you know that every child in every room as well as all of our staff perform our acknowledgement to country each morning. Did you also know that our centre also has a fully published Reconciliation Action Plan that we did in conjunction with Reconciliation Australia and Narragunnawalli . Are we proud? We definitely are

04.01.2022 The kindergarten children have expressed their interest in bugs as they searched the yard to see what they could find. Iris and Roy found snails, Huey and Charlie found ants and Annie found a spiky caterpillar which make you itchy if you touch it. To extend on this interest Miss Toni-Anne set up an insect investigation table whilst Miss Emma planned to extend on the children's interest with a variety of programmed activities that link back to bugs and insects.

04.01.2022 Childrens Day is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

04.01.2022 Happy Monday to all of our families and friends! Some of Senior Toddlers came together with Miss Kath for a Easter story this morning.

04.01.2022 Wednesday and Thursday saw the children participating in another arts n craft activity but this time it revolved around recycling objects to create their own duckling out of egg cartons. We watched and listened before taking it into our own hands and using the resources to create our interpretation of Easter ducklings.

03.01.2022 Our 2021 Reconciliation has been published :-) Our RAP framework enables our organisation to contribute to reconciliation by: - building and encouraging relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, organisations, and the broader Australian community - fostering and embedding respect for the world’s longest surviving cultures and communities. - develop opportunities within your organisation or services to improve socio-economic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

03.01.2022 The kindergarten children displayed their interest in extending their learning around anatomy and the human body. Teaching children about the body system and how it works builds and promotes health and wellbeing and thus helps grow children into adults who want to keep their bodies strong healthy and safe so that they can continue to do all the things they love to do.
