25.01.2022 Our Senior Toddler class have recently been very busy making some colour jars. These will look great in their room.

23.01.2022 "Wombat Stew, wombat stew, brewy, yummy, chewy, wombat stew". This was the classic story that was shared with the Pre Kindy class yesterday. As the children have become really familiar with the storyline they decide to make their own wombat stew. The children shared their ideas and thoughts on what should go into the wombat stew and then they all ventured outside to make their own wombat stew in the sandpit. Anyone hungry??

22.01.2022 We are having a bit of a crazy hair day today. A big thanks to all who took the time this morning to contribute to this day.

21.01.2022 Today It's R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say after R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK?... Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

21.01.2022 For the past few days the Kindergarten children have been discovering and using shapes in their pictures. They looked at the shapes you can see whilst looking at a person and used these to design their own. They used paper shapes cut outs to glue on their page and texta's to add the details to transform these shapes into people. If you are interested in your child attending our Kindergarten room for 2021 - you will need to come in quick as spaces are filling up fast. Please call the centre on (07)3204 6644 or email - [email protected] if you are interested in organising a tour of our wonderful centre.

21.01.2022 What better way to engage with our friends then with a tea party. By engaging in this type of pretend play, children are able to use a variety of different items to represent their ideas and to make believe.

20.01.2022 This week the Kindergarten class have been focusing on physical activity, movement and coordination through various planned experiences. If you are interested in attending our Kindergarten program in 2021 come see us now as places are filling fast!!!

20.01.2022 Wow what a fun day we have had today with our Talk Like a Pirate Day which supports families affected by Childhood cancer. 19.01.2022 Geoboards allow children to learn about shapes, practice their problem solving and spatial skills. They really help little learners to develop fine motor skills. Did you know that Geoboards were invented and popularized in the 1950's by Egyptian mathematician Caleb Gattegno.

19.01.2022 Some of our lovely learners had a great morning at their new 'big' school this week.

19.01.2022 Active play encourages children to use their large muscle groups, practise a range of different movements, experience a variety of play spaces and equipment and more importantly have fun and feel good about themselves and what they can do.

18.01.2022 The Kindergarten class had another successful visit to Undurba State School Library today. Every Tuesday from now to the end of school term our Kindergarten class visit the local school library to have a special story time. After a group story the children are then encouraged to navigate their own way around and choose a book to read on their own or with a special friend. At the end of today's visit the school Librarian came and talked to the children and gave them a special box that they could fill with any special books they wanted and then next week when they visit it will be there ready for them. How exciting.

17.01.2022 What makes a good centre great? The educators and the relationships that they build with the children and families in their care. We are so proud at our centre to have so many long standing staff members. Kristina, the Centre Director has worked in this position at the centre for over 16 years. Alongside her Pheona and Kimmy have been there for 15 years, Debbie for 11 years, Melissa for 9 years. Our lovely Pauline and Shahde for over 6 years with the remaining staff between the 4 and 2 year mark. We may not be all new and glitzy but we most certainly make up for it in creating a very welcoming, home like environment for the children and families in our care. If you would like to book a centre tour and join our family, please give the centre a call on (07)3204 6644.

17.01.2022 Woolworths Discovery Garden is back!! From this week for every $30 spent in store or online at Woolworths you will receive a seedling kit. There are 24 varieties of herbs, flowers and vegetables available. Our centre will gladly take any spare kits you may have available as we would love to refresh our community garden out the front. So please keep us in mind if you shop at Woolworths.

15.01.2022 Sand play is a fantastic early introduction to math concepts such as size, volume and capacity. Children can use trial and error and their problem solving skills through building, digging and creating. Sand play also offers excellent social experiences as the children have to communicate together and work cooperatively.

15.01.2022 It’s National Child Protection Week (6 12 September) Here at Goodstart Murrumba Downs we want to help give all of Australia’s children the best start in life and Child Protection Week is all about just that! This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the many ways big and small that everyone in the community can make a difference in the life of a child. ... We know that parenting is like sailing a boat; it takes skill and practice, anyone can encounter rough waters from time to time, and we can all do our bit to help build the safe harbours and lighthouses that all families need. We are always here to support you, as you support your family.

13.01.2022 Today we were very delighted to welcome Nanna Barbara back to our centre. Nanna Barb lives in the retirement home down the road and every Friday morning she visits our centre to read stories to the children. She has not been able to visit us inside the centre these past couple of months due to COVID-19 so it was wonderful to have her back with us. Both children and Nanna Barb have really missed each other.

12.01.2022 Sensory play helps children understand all five senses: touch, smell, taste, see and hear. When several senses are stimulated during play children get more opportunities to explore, discover and develop their own creativity at their own individual pace. Today the Kindergarten children helped to make and played with some goop.

10.01.2022 What better way to try and cool down on a hot day like today then with some water play! I'm sure we are going to be doing lots of this in the next couple of months. Water play is a great way to release energy and can be used in an emotional therapeutic way. It helps to develop motor skills, social skills and can stimulate creativity and imagination.

10.01.2022 Lest we forget.

10.01.2022 What is the best thing about rain? Mud, mud, mud!! Today the Pre Kindergarten children ventured outside to bring some of this mud inside. Mud is a great medium for us to explore and investigate as we added water and nature items to mould into shapes.

10.01.2022 This week our centre has been participating in various activities across all rooms as part of NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Each year a theme is chosen to reflect the important issues and events, with this years theme being - Always Was, Always Will Be.

09.01.2022 Building with blocks and other materials as a shared experience supports children's regulation of behaviour and attention and the coordination of roles. They also learn how the building materials fit together and become part of a balanced system.

09.01.2022 We Are Hiring!!!! Are you or someone you know interested in joining the amazing team at our centre? 09.01.2022 Next Wednesday 2 September is Early Childhood Educators' Day! This year it coincides with the start of spring and we thought what better way to celebrate than ...to say it with flowers! We are calling on our families to help fill our centres with greenery on this important day! It doesn’t matter whether you bring a plant from a shop, something from your garden or even a sneaky snip from the side of the road it will surely put a smile on the faces of our well-deserving teams! 08.01.2022 Our Kindergarten children have been busy this past week designing and making their own robot creations out of recyclable materials. They then got to paint their own robots. We currently have a few vacancies in our Kindergarten room for 2021, so if you are interested in your child attending our Kindergarten program next year, please contact the centre quickly as they won't be available for long!!

07.01.2022 For our families who have school aged children.

06.01.2022 Last night some of our centre educators attended the Local Network Forum for Early Years Transitions. These forums provide a platform where representors from Undurba State School, Griffin State School, local early childhood educators and community members can come together to help plan for successful transitions for all our little learners. Our centre has proudly been a part of these forums for the past couple of years as they a great way to network with our local community members and feeder school community. Last night's forum was about Child health and community services in our area and how we can best support our families with accessing these services.

06.01.2022 Painting is a satisying experience that allows children to express themselves. It can also be relaxing and helps to reduce tension. Painting experiences can also be very varied and offer children the opportunity to manipulate a variety of different tools.

06.01.2022 At Goodstart Murrumba Downs we encourage all our children to practice self-help skills by being responsible for their own belongings, packing away toys, applying their own sunscreen, making their own beds, serving their own morning tea and lunch and washing up their dishes after meal times. When children practice self-help skills they gain confidence in their ability to try new things and to build their self-esteem and to take pride in their independence.

06.01.2022 Fine motor skills is the co-ordination of small muscle movements - usually involving the synchronisation of hands and fingers with the eyes. Fine motor development is an important component of children's wellbeing, which is why it is so important that we provide experiences that help children continually aquire, refine and consolidate these skills.

05.01.2022 When educators frequently read to young children, they come to understand that the words spoken are being read from the print that is in the books. From books children learn new vocabulary, the perspectives of others and how stories are constructed.

05.01.2022 Threading is fabulous for developing essential fine motor skills, increasing concentration span and improving hand manipulation (which is good practice for holding a pencil). It also helps to improve bilateral coordination - using both sides of the body at the same time. Here our Senior Toddler class are using recycled pieces of material to thread through tissue boxes.

05.01.2022 Well done Goodstart Murrumba Downs Families!

04.01.2022 There's no better way for children to learn about the world around them by getting out into it. Bug hunting encourages children to explore their environment in an open-ended way that can lead to discovery, adventure and excitement.

03.01.2022 What an awesome adventure our Kindergarten class have had today! Their day began with their regular weekly visit to Undurba State School Library, where they read some Christmas Books. After the library visit the school principal and deputy principal invited our Kindergartener's for a picnic in the schools rainforest area. They each where given their own treat box from the school tuckshop which included party pies, a popper and a packet of chips. The kindergarten children loved the picnic and they also where able to meet the Prep Teachers. By doing this the children are becoming confident and relaxed in their new surroundings and are also building positive relationships ready for their prep school next year.

03.01.2022 September is the month to raise awareness for childhood cancer. Let's support those that we know are experiencing this horrific disease and for those that have been on this terribly relentless journey. Our centre will be doing a fundraiser on Thursday 17th Sept. https://www.talklikeapirateday.com.au//goodstart-murrumba-

02.01.2022 This past week our children have been making some special ANZAC Day lanterns out of donated empty milk bottles and some rosemary buttonholes. We then set up a pop up ANZAC store in the foyer for the families to purchase the items for $2, with all proceeds going to the RAAF Association Qld Pine Rivers and Sandgate Branch. On Friday afternoon, John who is the President of this branch came to the centre and talked to the Kindergarten children about his time flying jet fighter planes and we proudly handed over our $140 donation.

01.01.2022 Maybe a park to check out over the upcoming weekend?
