24.01.2022 Today was Early Childhhod Educators Day. This was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the amazing team we have here at Goodstart Osborne. This ye...ar has been a big challenge for everyone and we asked our families to help celebrate the incredible work and dedication of our team. The response was overwhelming, we consider our centre blessed to have such thoughtful families. Here is just a snippet. The response was nothing but overwhelming! See more
23.01.2022 Happy 10th Birthday, Goodstart.
22.01.2022 Dear families We’re sharing this poster with every family at our centre today as part of a reminder to ourselves that while we’ve been working to keep everyone ...safe from COVID-19 for nearly nine months now we can’t afford to let our guard down. We’re using this poster to take a moment each day to check we’re still doing all the simple things we need to do as part of the local community to keep ourselves and our friends and family safe and well. If your child isn’t feeling well, please keep them home and support us to reduce the spread of illness in our centre. Thanks again for helping keep everyone at Goodstart Osborne safe by following this simple guide because COVID-19 is still a thing.
22.01.2022 We are open and here for children of essential workers and to support vulnerable children. There are no new restrictions on early learning and care and we remain open and here to support you as we navigate through the next few days together. #COVID19 #Lockdown #Adelaide #StayingSafe #GoodstartEarlyLearning
22.01.2022 Today we enjoyed lunch at The Chippy, which was inspired by two members of our class who visited their family over in England last year. While looking throug...h their holiday photos they explained to us how much they loved the food over there and the chippys. Our class definitely enjoyed the fish and chips today too, at our very own Fish and Chip Shop! (See the comments below for some photos of our fish and chip shop, The Chippy!).
20.01.2022 Dear families, Following the State Government’s announcement that a six-day lockdown will begin at midnight tonight, I wanted to provide you with some further i...nformation. Our centre will remain open for children of essential workers and those in vulnerable circumstances. For children who can attend, please be assured we have maintained the highest level of hygiene since the beginning of the pandemic, and further strengthened these measures as community transmission was identified this week. This has included two-hourly touchpoint cleaning, health and wellness checks and limiting the number of non-staff adults within the centre. These measures will stay in place over the coming weeks. We also know that during uncertain times, routines and familiar faces are really important for children. We have and will continue to provide the best possible learning and care for all children in our centre. For those of you unable to attend or do not wish to send your child to care you can access our online learning platform Goodstart@home which is packed with fun, play-based learning activities. To sign up for free, email: [email protected] We know this week has been increasingly concerning for families but please be assured that we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us to discuss the above. As always, we are here to help and answer any questions you may have.
18.01.2022 Reminder to all families that SA lockdown restrictions will ease this Saturday 21 November at midnight meaning we are back to normal and open on Monday 23 November to support all our families with quality early learning and care!
18.01.2022 Goodstart Osborne's Kindy own music performance with Mia doing the sign language.
18.01.2022 HOW EXCITING! Our kindy class arrived in London yesterday, to start off their trip around the world! Then late this afternoon we were blessed with some cold, wet London type conditions with a hail storm hitting our Centre. Once it had passed we ran outside and explored the hail stones, also collecting some for the freezer to hopefully save for our friends who had already left for the day to see tomorrow.
18.01.2022 This week we are in the artistic hub of Paris, France. Yesterday we explored the Louvre and took in all the amazing art work on display. We looked at the different colours and styles of the art and sat and talked about our favourite pieces and why we liked them. We then set up our easel in the art gallery with red, yellow, green and blue paint and 4 different types of paintbrushes. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon painting our own masterpieces in groups of three while listening to calming classical music.
18.01.2022 To commemorate ANZAC Day, Goodstart Osborne prepared candle holders for the children to decorate, ready for Light Up the Dawn from our own drive way tomorrow.
18.01.2022 We visited the iconic London landmark Big Ben and decided to get our own tourist photos in front of the landmark like the ones Chantelle showed us from her holi...day to London. On our first day in London (18/5), Mia asked can we see Big Ben? Maybe we could make a Big Ben out of cardboard. So thats exactly what we did! We also learned that the hour hand on the real Big Ben is 9ft long and the minute hand is 14 ft long! So to better understand just how big the clock is we measured out the minute and hour hand with a tape measure and marked it with chalk on the ground. We then measured how many kids we would need to make a line as long as the minute hand and found that we needed 15 kids! We created a rough replica of the size of the clock face with loose parts and were amazed by how big the clock face is. We counted how many steps it would take to get around the clock face and it took us 48 steps!
16.01.2022 Have a look at what just LANDED in our Kindy room today! After finishing our lap of Australia last week in our Caravan and Adventure Bus, today we headed to "TRAVEL LAND" (named by one of our kindy kids) to plan our next holiday. Our class have caught the travel bug it seems, so now we will be taking our holiday international! ... NEXT STOP: THE WORLD!
15.01.2022 While our Kindy friends went for overseas journey around the world, Goodstart Osborne Toddlers went for a camping trip. So, we set-up the tents and campfire in the backyard and explored what we could do around the yard, and the Toddlers decided to do a bit of trekking through the rainforest. We then sat down at our campsite and talked about what we had seen and experienced. From the green of the forest to the blue of the sky, the white of the clouds, and how warm the sun was on our backs. After lunch, we climbed into our tents, wrapped ourselves up in our blankets, and drifted off into dreamland.
15.01.2022 We think its safe to say that 2020 has been a year unlike any other. For the world, for Australia and for our Goodstart team. Over the past few months people, families and communities have been tried and tested in the most extraordinary ways. As frontline essential workers, our Goodstarters rose to this challenge, stepping up to support our 60,000 families and 71,000 children through some incredibly challenging times. So weve declared this week Thank You Week! A week to c...elebrate and recognise our 10,000+ Goodstarters for continuing to go above and beyond in face of adversity. We have a few special surprises planned for our Goodstarters this week, but in the meantime, we'd love for our Goodstart families to get involved too! Please share your messages of thanks and support below and tag an educator or a centre who has really made a difference. #ThankYouWeek #InThisTogether
13.01.2022 Last week we visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France! We learned that it has lots of stairs and you are able to climb to the top, but there is also an elevator to get to the top. The class was shocked to discover that it also has 20,000 lightbulbs on it to light it up at night. Now that we are all Eiffel Tower experts, we decided to build our own Eiffel Tower using recycled paper. For the past few weeks our amazing sustainable class has been stockpiling all of their scrap ...paper and unwanted drawings, and some of our families have donated their catalogues and news papers for us to use in this project. We worked as a team to roll the scrap paper into lots and lots of tubes. Next we headed outside and set up our work space in our yarning circle where we looked at our blueprints and debated where to begin... "First we need to do the tunnel" said William, "lets check the instructions. I'm going to be the instruction helper". We worked in groups over the course of the day to build our tower from the bottom up. Our class of engineers collaborated beautifully. We discussed placement of the tubes, debated the structural strengths of different types of paper and explored a lot of language as we discussed length, size, weight and direction. But the most impressive part of our project today was the team work our class displayed! Once our tower was finished, Henry, William, Kiran, Mia, Bhyren, and Harli came to tell me that we had forgotten the elevator to get the people to the top. We researched some ways to create a pulley system and designed a functional elevator out of a recycled container and some string. Our brave doll tested it out for us and it worked perfectly! The excitement was palpable as everyone waited for their chance to give it a try. See more
12.01.2022 You don't go on a trip around Australia and not post your holiday photos to Facebook, are we right? Here's just a few snaps of our kindy classes Adventure Around Australia, we had heaps of fun and learnt so much along the way!
11.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators' Day! We hope that Australia's early childhood educators know how much they are recognised & appreciated - not just on the day, but every day. To each and every one of you, we say THANK YOU!
11.01.2022 As part of our exploration around Italy last month we also visited the accidental architectural icon the Leaning Tower of Pisa. First we watched a video about the tower so that we could get a little background information about the structure. Its heavy. Heavier than a dinosaur said Lachlan We learned that the tower is 55.86 meters high and there are 251 steps in the tower.... I cant even count up to that many said Mia, Too many agreed Mackenzie. We also learned that the tower leans at a 10 degree angle because it was built on a foundation of clay. See it was too heavy for the soft ground said Zara We then put on our engineer hats and thought about how we could fix the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Push it back said Lachlan We could use metal said Zara A stand! Exclaimed Kiran. Cement? suggested Henry. We could get a ladder and push it back. Mia explained. Put screws in it! Eilish said. Tilly embraced the lean and thought about turning it into a slippery dip. Maddison and Mia suggested we use the measuring tape to see how big the leaning tower of Pisa is. We worked as a team to measure the distance across our yard and tied string from our starting point to our end point so we could visualise our measurements. We had to stop at 48 meters because we reached the fence and then, as a group we walked the length of the string. Of course now that our class is aware of the magic of cardboard, we wanted to create a cardboard representation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We let the class take the lead on this one and worked together to cut our cardboard on a 10 degree angle using a protractor. After analysing the design of the tower more closely Mia noticed that the tower looks a bit like a big cake. We counted the layers of the tower, eight layers and 7 bells said Mia. We measured out 8 sections on our cardboard and then explored the new shape we discovered, the arch, as we filled each layer with archways like we observed on the pictures of the real Leaning Tower of Pisa. Lets go take photos with it Mia and Zara said in celebration of their completed work. Stay tuned for more pictures of our holiday!
10.01.2022 This is just a few ways that we promoted and brought awareness of Indigenous Literacy Day.

05.01.2022 Today one our class mates found a friendly visitor in our yard, a snail! We engaged in some hands-on exploration of this fascinating living thing as we closely observed our snail friend together. We explored a range of scientific concepts and ideas as we spent the afternoon documenting the different characteristics of our snail, focusing on what it looked and felt like and what it eats. After our observations on our slimy visitor, one of our class mates discovered she could make a snail with her hands, we then got creative with natural loose objects and created our own snails. We love days where we find little critters in our yard!
02.01.2022 Saturday was WORLD TURTLE DAY! The day was created as an annual observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing ha...bitats around the world. We had a very special visitor to our kindy, Bella the turtle! She was a great follow on from our interest in our snail friend Thursday, another shelled creature! We loved the chance to get up close and personal with such an interesting animal. We also were lucky to see Bella shedding a few parts of her shell which we could collect and look at under our microscope and magnifying glasses.
01.01.2022 Our kindy class spent our holiday in India last week. It was a very special holiday for us, as our centre has a wonderful Indian presence and influence. A numbe...r of our staff have diverse Indian backgrounds, giving the kindy class and teachers the opportunity to learn about their country and culture. We were lucky enough to have had many special learning experiences that Swapna had organised and brought in for us, helping us to further embrace her culture with hands on learning experiences. We explored the Taj Mahal, and learnt about the story of love behind this architectural wonder. We looked at traditional silk dresses and how they are made, with Swapna bringing in some outfits for the class to explore the intricacies of the design. We transformed our dramatic play area into a yoga space that encouraged our children to calm down and focus, self regulate and be mindful of our bodies, our emotions and our breath. We explored the Indian art of Rangoli, using rice flour as a medium to draw and create art patterns on the ground. Two of our staff, Swapna and Anusha, expanded this into the centre and created a beautiful piece of Rangoli art in the entrance of our centre. Swapna explained to us that every home would have a piece of Rangoli in their entrance to give blessings to the home. To finish of our celebration of this wonderful, interesting culture, we had Dhal and rice for lunch, with Naan bread that Swapna had prepared for us and we got to look at some intricate and detailed Henna art.
