25.01.2022 Exploring MARBLE RUN game ( Stem : Engineering/ Science ) : The children were super excited today as they noticed their favourite MARBLE RUN GAME set up for them in our STEM area. The children participated in small groups as they build their tracks for marble to move in. Some children worked together to build their awesome tracks . The children participated enthusiastically in this experience and were engaged for quite sometime.

25.01.2022 Goodstart Families! Just wanted to clarify with you that the 'free childcare' package announced by Government today absolutely includes ALL Goodstart centres. I...f your child is enrolled in one of our centres and you are still working, studying or searching for work you will be able to send your child for free from Monday 6 April. We know you probably have lots of questions, and your Centre Director will share more tomorrow once we understand the finer details of how it all works. See more

24.01.2022 Communication can be so much more than just the words! Eryn tells Dad a really interesting story about her day using her voice and lots of natural gestures. Using gesture and sign can support children to develop their language, social skills and later literacy development. Here at Goodstart Parafield Gardens we love to help children to learn new ways of communicating every single day.

23.01.2022 Supporting fire fighters, thank you from all of us at Goodstart.

22.01.2022 Where does the rubbish go ? ( Stem - Science ) : We have been continuing on with our project about ‘ Sustainability ‘ as the children were involved in a sorting experience. Deepika provided the children with picture cards . She kept the wooden bins that were labelled as Recycling, Rubbish and Compost. As the children took each picture card, we talked about what it is and which bin it should go. Grace was quick in responding as she got the picture of a packet of chips. She said to a Deepika ‘ This is rubbish Deepika ! It goes in the red bin ‘ . We continued with the sorting experience as we discussed each picture card and put it in the right bin.

22.01.2022 The children had the opportunity to engage in some water and sand play in which they were able to discover different textures as they added dry sand to the water to make it wet. We also explored how we could mold the wet sand using our hands and shovels and of course we love getting wet and cooling off.

22.01.2022 Have your say on our 2020 campaign! Dear Parents, Welcome back to another year of laughter and learning! As a parent, you know firsthand the difference that quality early learning makes for a growing child.... Right now, the Federal Government is reviewing funding for preschool and kindy programs in the next Budget. One wrong decision, and Australian families will lose over $1,200 per child in funding. At Goodstart, we believe all families should have access to quality and affordable preschool and kindy programs. Thats why we launched the Smart Start campaign to ensure the Government continues to support children through those critical first years. But we need your help. Will you take a few minutes to have your say in the Smart Start Summer Survey? https://essentialmedia.az1.qualtrics.com//SV_1MTpAN6jBumm0 Our annual Summer Survey tells us whats most important to Australian families, so we can campaign for early learning that works for you. Its quick, easy, and completely anonymous! This year were focusing on childcare affordability, the child care subsidy and your experience with preschool/kindy programs. Your experiences will help shape what we campaign for in 2020. Dont miss your chance to have your say. Click here to take the Summer Survey now. https://essentialmedia.az1.qualtrics.com//SV_1MTpAN6jBumm0 The first five years of development are the most crucial, setting a child up for school and life. The learning habits they develop in these critical years can last a lifetime. No child should miss out on the chance to thrive. Help us secure quality preschool/kindy programs that all families can afford.

21.01.2022 Hi Goodstart families! As you know the Government announced today that the 'free childcare' package will expire on 12 July and that the CCS system will return f...rom 13 July, along with new transition measures (up until October) to support the sector and parents as they move back to the subsidy. This announcement is a little bit complex so we are working hard to understand what this means for our families and for Goodstart. We will provide an update to our centres and our families later today and over the coming days as we learn more. #5weekstogo! See more

20.01.2022 Dear families, Following the State Government’s announcement that a six-day lockdown will begin at midnight tonight, I wanted to provide you with some further information. Our centre will remain open for children of essential workers and those in vulnerable circumstances. For children who can attend, please be assured we have maintained the highest level of hygiene since the beginning of the pandemic, and further strengthened these measures as community transmission was ident...ified this week. This has included two-hourly touchpoint cleaning, health and wellness checks and limiting the number of non-staff adults within the centre. These measures will stay in place over the coming weeks. We also know that during uncertain times, routines and familiar faces are really important for children. We have and will continue to provide the best possible learning and care for all children in our centre. For those of you unable to attend or do not wish to send your child to care you can access our online learning platform Goodstart@home which is packed with fun, play-based learning activities. To sign up for free email [email protected] We know this week has been increasingly concerning for families but please be assured that we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to discuss the above. As always, I am here to help and answer any questions you may have. Kind regards Sarah

16.01.2022 This is an image weve come across that simply explains the latest advice from the Prime Minister around Australias response to COVID-19. Goodstart is well prepared and has been planning around COVID-19 since early January.... Our teams are highly trained in dealing with infectious diseases and we have Public Health approved infection control processes. We use hospital-grade cleaning products and have rigorous hygiene practices and protocols in place. It is important to remember that maintaining your childs daily routines and positive relationships can be beneficial during uncertain and stressful times such as these. 13.01.2022 Its Dental Hygiene Week this week (3 9 August), so weve created some fun activities you can do with your toddlers to encourage them to brush their teeth on our Goodstart@Home website. These activities are easy to do and a great way to support the development and understanding of dental hygiene and teeth brushing techniques. This years Dental Hygiene Week theme is all about sugar and How much sugar is hiding is your trolley? Wed like to encourage families to be mindful... of hidden sugars in food. Making healthy choices at the supermarket extends to making similar smart food and drink choices at home. Early childhood tooth decay can affect your childs health and cause pain, making it hard for your child to sleep, eat or speak. It can also affect your childs ability to concentrate and learn. Children who develop dental decay at an early age are more likely to suffer from it throughout childhood. To find out more about Dental Health Week visit the ADAs Your Dental Health website: https://www.ada.org.au/tips

06.01.2022 The year before school is so important for young children. It’s where they learn the skills to develop the confidence they need to make a smooth transition to school. At Goodstart the Kindergarten program is evidence based and is specifically designed for children aged 3-5 years. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework, which is delivered by degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers. This program nurtures children’s collaboration, communication, creativi...ty and critical thinking skills. Our approach gives your child the full benefits of a daily learning program while you are supported with the longer care hours we provide. That means your child gets the best start to their schooling, while you juggle the day-to-day demands of life. Find out more at: www.goodstart.org.au/kindergarten-sa

02.01.2022 Too often, I see children reprimanded when they're not able to control their behaviours and emotions. Theyre expected to remain calm and happy, not get upset, ...not display anger, and quickly calm themselves down if they do get angry or upset. If they cant do this, they may be referred to me for "self-regulation difficulties". Here's the thing. Self-regulation is a developmental process. Just as we wouldnt expect a child to run before they can walk, we cannot expect children to self-regulate until theyve experienced co-regulation time and time again. Unless a child has had it modelled enough, and their brain has developed enough, they will not achieve regulation on their own. Have a think - when was the last time you heard a 3 year old say Im so angry my sister hit me! I need to calm down. Im just going to take myself to the kitchen for a drink of water and do some deep breaths. Co-regulation begins from birth. When babies are unsettled and we cuddle them, rock them, feed them - we are helping them to regulate. When toddlers are angry that they can't have the toy they want, and we empathise with them, sit with them, get them a drink - we are helping them to regulate. When preschoolers are upset because they're not ready to leave their playdate, and we listen and help them take deep breaths - we are helping them to regulate. Self-regulation only BEGINS to emerge around 4-5 years. And whilst some 4-5 year olds may be able to regulate themselves, others may not be able to. Both are within the typical range of development. True self-regulation is not fully established until our mid-twenties. Even then, we often turn to others to help us feel better when we are feeling low. And we are often quite happy to help other adults feel better when they're feeling low, however when children need our help, we may be reluctant to give it, perhaps in fear that we will stunt their emotional resilience (amongst many other unfounded but understandable fears). When we ask a child to regulate themselves before they're ready, we risk shaming them, affecting their self-esteem, and affecting their relationship with us. Co-regulation needs to come first. You may not be able to help your child regulate 100% of the time, and thats okay. Just know that they may not be ready to do it themselves.

01.01.2022 Everyone has a story, knows someone who did it earlier than your child or has a strong opinion about when it should be done. However, what you do is dependent on yourself and your child.
