25.01.2022 The year before school is so important for young children. It’s where they learn the skills to develop the confidence they need to make a smooth transition to school. At Goodstart the Kindergarten program is evidence based and is specifically designed for children aged 3-5 years. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework, which is delivered by degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers. This program nurtures children’s collaboration, communication, creativi...ty and critical thinking skills. Our approach gives your child the full benefits of a daily learning program while you are supported with the longer care hours we provide. That means your child gets the best start to their schooling, while you juggle the day-to-day demands of life. Find out more at: www.goodstart.org.au/kindergarten-sa

23.01.2022 Dear families We’re sharing this poster with every family at our centre today as part of a reminder to ourselves that while we’ve been working to keep everyone safe from COVID-19 for nearly nine months now we can’t afford to let our guard down. We’re using this poster to take a moment each day to check we’re still doing all the simple things we need to do as part of the local community to keep ourselves and our friends and family safe and well. If your child isn’t feeling well, please keep them home and support us to reduce the spread of illness in our centre. Thanks again for helping keep everyone at Goodstart Sheidow park-young street by following this simple guide because COVID-19 is still a thing.

23.01.2022 21st January 2021 Before morning tea the nursery children had a play with new sensory wooden blocks. The children were excited by shaking them to see the coloured water, coloured sand and making noise with the ones that made sound. The children used different cues and words for the older children they said the different colours of what was inside the blocks, while the younger children pointed to the different colours.

21.01.2022 What is National Reconciliation Week? National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year - 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.... Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We invite you to join in the learning about National Reconciliation Week at home through Goodstart@Home which is free for Goodstart families. Listen and learn from the stories and activities on the site. Take a moment to explore how you can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia: athome.goodstart.org.au

15.01.2022 For the month of February/March the children have been learning about gardening and how plants keep us healthy. We also talked about what we needed to do to be safe when gardening. As a centre we created a space where the children and their families could watch the plants grow. The nursery room got the children to either paint or colour in bumble bees. The toddlers created some beautiful pots for us to plant the seeds in and the kindy room made some fantastic sun flowers t...o brighten our display. The children have also been learning about washing their hands after gardening. We also plan to do a herb garden that can be used in cooking and experiences. The toddler room children planted some seeds and were shown the children the life cycle of a plant. The children have also helped to water both the indoor and outdoor plants. The kindy educators have read different books to the children in regards to plants and the importance of feeding them to let them grow.

12.01.2022 Today the nursery children did some brush painting outside with coloured paper put on the outdoor windows. The children loved using the paint brushes with the water. They watched what happened when the water touched the different coloured paper. Other children used the paint brushes to paint over drawings on the chalkboard or use the chalk to draw over the water. Later in the afternoon the children explored and played with the new sensory board. They explored the different locks, a light stitch, door handles and many other items.. All of the children were excited when they saw the board and couldn't wait to test it out.

10.01.2022 Hi Goodstart families! As you know the Government announced today that the 'free childcare' package will expire on 12 July and that the CCS system will return f...rom 13 July, along with new transition measures (up until October) to support the sector and parents as they move back to the subsidy. This announcement is a little bit complex so we are working hard to understand what this means for our families and for Goodstart. We will provide an update to our centres and our families later today and over the coming days as we learn more. #5weekstogo! See more

09.01.2022 The bond between a child and their grandparents is such a special one. Help your families to celebrate these connections on Grandparents’ Day with activities on Goodstart@Home. What more perfect a way could there be for children to enjoy and celebrate their relationships with their grandparents than embarking on a learning adventure with them? Perhaps they could use the Send a Hug activity card to become pen pals? In these times when it can be hard to connect in person, this is the perfect way to give children’s early literacy and understanding a boost, not to mention making each other’s day when they check the letterbox and find a life-sized cut out of a hug inside! 09.01.2022 Next Wednesday 2 September is Early Childhood Educators' Day! This year it coincides with the start of spring and we thought what better way to celebrate than ...to say it with flowers! We are calling on our families to help fill our centres with greenery on this important day! It doesn’t matter whether you bring a plant from a shop, something from your garden or even a sneaky snip from the side of the road it will surely put a smile on the faces of our well-deserving teams! 07.01.2022 It’s Dental Hygiene Week this week (3 9 August), so we’ve created some fun activities you can do with your toddlers to encourage them to brush their teeth on our Goodstart@Home website. These activities are easy to do and a great way to support the development and understanding of dental hygiene and teeth brushing techniques. This year’s Dental Hygiene Week theme is all about sugar and ‘How much sugar is hiding is your trolley?’ We’d like to encourage families to be mindful... of hidden sugars in food. Making healthy choices at the supermarket extends to making similar smart food and drink choices at home. Early childhood tooth decay can affect your child’s health and cause pain, making it hard for your child to sleep, eat or speak. It can also affect your child’s ability to concentrate and learn. Children who develop dental decay at an early age are more likely to suffer from it throughout childhood. To find out more about Dental Health Week visit the ADA’s Your Dental Health website: https://www.ada.org.au/tips

07.01.2022 Father’s Day is on Sunday 6 September and Goodstart@Home has some great ideas for families who are looking for a gift that’s from the heart. One of the Father’s Day activities for 3-5 year olds is Building a Memory Jar. We would love to see some photos or videos of memory jars being created for the special Dads (and other males!) of the children at our centre. Other lovely activity ideas are a ‘Do you know how much I love you?’ photo book for babies, or for toddlers; creat...ing a ‘Helping hand’ book of coupons for help getting things done around the house or garden. We hope all the Dads have a wonderful Father’s Day!

07.01.2022 Our new look nursery room... Over the last couple of weeks the staff in the Nursery have worked together to come up with a design layout for their room that allows the children maximum play space and opportunity for engagement. Since moving the furniture around we have found the children are much more engaged and interested in the resources being offered. The children are participating in much more parallel play, even some cooperative play especially in the home space area. The children are able to further strengthen a number of skills and abilities in our more open spaces while still having the opportunity to participate in quiet time when they need their own space.

07.01.2022 Don't miss out on Kindy 2021! Enrolments are now open for our kindergarten program. Find out more: https://bit.ly/36tiReG

04.01.2022 Reconciliation week. Our Educators have displayed Indigenous Australian symbols that are often used in their art work. We encouraged children to use paint brushes to create their own symbols with the sand that was coloured using food colouring. The paint, children were shown the Indigenous flag where children designed their own flags with their hands. Sand was added to the paint to add texture and enhance the colours. #allinthistogether
