25.01.2022 Captured below is Mackinley and educator Rhiannon, sharing a moment of learning through sign. Mackinley and his family use Auslan at home and this is something we incorporated into our program last year. This has supported Mackinley to communicate with educators when he sometimes can’t find the words. Auslan is short for Australian sign language. It’s a visual form of communication that uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning. While it was originally created for... the hearing impaired, when its incorporation into an early learning environment creates many exciting opportunities for engagement, inclusion and a richer shared culture. The EYLF states; ‘When early childhood educators respect the diversity of families and communities, and the aspirations they hold for children, they are able to foster children’s motivation to learn and reinforce their sense of themselves as competent learners. They make curriculum decisions that uphold all children’s rights to have their cultures, identities, abilities and strengths acknowledged and valued, and respond to the complexity of children’s and families lives’ (EYLF Principle 4; Respect for Diversity, page 14).
24.01.2022 Treasure baskets are wonderful ways for babies or children to explore sensory materials. Just put some items in a basket and let your little one explore them. Stay close by but let them choose which item they want to explore and for how long. You can talk about what they are doing with each one. How does the wool feel? Is it soft on your face? What else can you find in the basket? Thank you Dom for allowing us to share your learning on our socials.
23.01.2022 How many learning domains are covered in this one experience? numeracy and number identification literacy and language STEM ... fine motor development role play Truth is this learning experience can become anything, with the use of open ended materials.
23.01.2022 Competent and confident learners
22.01.2022 Loose parts are basically any loose, tactile materials and found objects that children can move about during play and exploration. They’re versatile, open-ended and can be added to any learning environment for children to adapt and to turn into anything their imagination allows. Children can use loose parts to make, build, experiment and invent. Loose parts have the flexibility to be combined, redesigned, pulled apart and put back together, carried around, manipulated, put into patterns or used as visual representations for children’s imaginations. Loose parts also invite children to explore and discover, imagine and create, enquire and experiment, play and tinker about as they build on their developmental skills in a supportive learning environment.
22.01.2022 You don’t need any fancy equipment for this art activity and the process is delightfully simple too. All you need, is to let go of your adult caution, and let your child experiment, explore, mix and learn. The basic transformation from primary to secondary colours is magical when you are making that change yourself!
21.01.2022 Learning body parts is a part of every day life with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. They are fascinated with who they are and the bodies they have. Creating an awareness of their bodies is also an important part of development. Toddler 2 have been learning all about the body and what parts are visible on themselves and one another. Mila from Toddler 2 is now transferring her knowledge of the body into her art work.... The picture below is Educator Jaime, Mila drew with great detail. Note - no art work was damaged in process the labelled picture is a photocopy
19.01.2022 What's happening now is impacting us all in different ways. Sometimes it's hard to know what to do, where to start or what to say. As we push through this together, we hope we can empower people to connect with others who are struggling and find the help they need now. We are proud to have already raised $300 for Movember. Every little bit counts. https://movember.com/t/goodstart-strathfieldsaye?mc=1
19.01.2022 Land Ahoy! Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day, ya scallywags!
19.01.2022 The first five years are the most important
18.01.2022 Cultural diversity in early education provides a range of opportunities for children and families to celebrate differences. It’s one aspect of diversity, which also embraces differences in gender, disabilities, age, social, and economic backgrounds. Cultural diversity promotes different cultures, racial and ethnic groups within our community. Educators show their respect for diversity by celebrating those differences. By encouraging families to participate in cultural activities and programs, it strengthens children’s self-identity and promotes an inclusive practice in early education.
17.01.2022 This is the face of our team leader Laura, in a normal year she is faced with challenges on a daily that most people wouldn’t be able to cope with. 2020 has proven to be the most challenging by far, staffing arrangements, supporting the unknown, rosters that change hourly, training casuals to be room leaders, being there to not only support our teams health and well-being, but also that of our amazing families and doing this all with a smile. So today and every other day we thank you Laura, we couldn’t of done it without you.
17.01.2022 Here is a preview of what’s coming up in September.

13.01.2022 Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day!!
12.01.2022 We shouldn’t underestimate how important it is for children to play and have fun it is incredible how much they learn through play! Playing in the sandpit is an incredible tool to help them develop great skills that go beyond sensory learning. There are basically no rules or instructions when playing with sand children can dig around, build with it, pretend with it, sift it, and explore. Their imaginations can run wild. Playing in the sandpit is not only a fun part of children playing, but a great way for them to learn many different skills.
12.01.2022 Collaborative learning involves children learning in pairs or small groups through different activities. It can be a fun way for children to learn and interact with their peers. It also plays a huge role in building communication and social skills of children. Our Toddler children are learning all about how water evaporates as it dries, experimenting on different surfaces and using different utensils.
11.01.2022 Risk-taking is an essential part of children’s play. Managing that risk is the key to providing opportunities that support growth and development and keep children safe from unreasonable risk and injury. The balancing of these two is vital for our children’s health and development. Each child is unique and so the level of risk and challenge they seek will also vary, yet most children will actively seek risk and challenge in play as they explore the world around them and thei...r own physical abilities. Life is full of risk. By providing children with opportunities to participate in risky and challenging play in a safe learning environment, we provide opportunity for the development of important life skill learnings such as making choices, problem solving, measured risk taking, and navigating their way socially and emotionally in group situations. These skills will be important right through life particularly in vulnerable stages such as their teenage years, so let’s send them out prepared.
11.01.2022 We hope all our families had a great day in the sunshine today

07.01.2022 The ability to discriminate between sounds is central to early language development. It is a vital foundation skill for the fine discrimination between speech sounds that underpins good phonological awareness. To assess children’s auditory discrimination, educators use enjoyable games at a variety of levels that can be played with individuals or small groups. Thankyou Jessica, Mackenzie and Jasmine for allowing us to share your learning on our socials.

06.01.2022 Babies love to play, and even more so when they can touch different textures with their little hands. Babies learn about about themselves and the world around them through hands-on activities. That’s why sensory play activities are not only fun for babies but also an important part of their development. Sensory play has many great benefits and it is essential for children’s brain development as well as gross and fine motor skills. Below Ledger explores the texture of the goop, unsure at first he pulls his hand away to inspect it a little closer. Ledger’s curiosity to inquire further into this new texture has him confident enough to revisit the experience to learn more.
04.01.2022 A little treat for the team today Supporting our local community, Strathfieldsaye bakery
03.01.2022 Creating time and space for independent exploration and creation of texts allows children to experiment with emergent reading and writing behaviours without adult support. Independent reading and writing can help develop children’s sense of ownership over their skills and provide some quiet time where children can work and explore uninterrupted, at their own pace. Pictured is Jaxon he is exploring written text in another language. Jaxon engaged with this book independently w...ithout assistance from educators and now wants to learn more about learning to speak Mandarin. Magical moments happen when the children have access to the right resources

03.01.2022 Muscle strength of the hands and fingers increases as children grow and participate in everyday activities. Activities such as climbing, pushing, pulling, pinching, pressing and squishing. It’s so important to develop and strengthen the muscles of the hands and fingers before we expect a child to hold a pencil
02.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day. This is a question that could save a life. Our centre has decided to wear yellow today to help start the conversation. Thank you to our team and children for participating. Who will you ask?
01.01.2022 Our Toddler Two room have a strong interest in dinosaurs, so for science week last week we explored the concept of hatching eggs. With a mixture of bicarb soda and hair conditioner to make the paste and then we wrapped it around the mini Dinos to make the eggs. The children used eye droppers with a container of vinegar and as they drip the vinegar onto the eggs, the paste bubbled and dissolved to reveal the dinosaurs inside. ... What a great way to explore cause and effect!
