22.01.2022 Outdoor play fosters children’s intellectual, emotional, social and physical development. At Goodstart Wagga Wagga Morgan St our educators are aware that being outside and surrounded by nature, children experience an ever-changing and free-flowing environment that stimulates all their senses. Interacting with natural environments allows children to learn by doing and experiment with ideas. In nature, children think, question, and make hypotheses thereby developing their inq...uisitive minds. These boys were exploring how a snail moves along the log and began to make theories on how the snail can travel up and down the ends of the log and not fall off. As the snail moved along the log with the leaf the leaf was pushed back and they began to discuss how this happens and why there were bubbles forming from under the snail. These boys spent the whole morning gathering data on what surfaces the snail could attach to and gently moved the creature to each of the new surfaces ensuring that the snail was safe at all times. This snail was nurtured inside during quiet activities to explore with a magnifying glass a little closer to gather more information about their creature. The boys then released the snail back into the garden into his natural habitat as they believed that this is what the snail needed to survive. Often, when involved in the natural world, children may slow down and learn to focus on being gentle and explore empathy. This experience for the boys was independent learning and was facilitated only by the resources the boys needed to extend on gathering data and exploring their theories. We have limited days available at our Centre in our preschool space for 2021 and encourage you to call and talk to our Centre director. See more

12.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week 2020 Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians- whether we are as an individual, a family, in our communities, part of organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Inlander peoples. We strive towards a more equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another. On thi...s journey, Australians are "all in this together, everyone of us has a role to play" when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through out the years. Educators in our nursery provided the space for the children to explore images and prints related to culture. Using nature as our paint brushes we supported the children to explore artistically reflecting on these images. Providing children of a young age an opportunity to explore other cultures supports their ability to be unbiased and accepting of differences and respectful of their local community. The only way we can truly achieve reconciliation is if we are open to the truths of Australia's history and the steps that are required to move our country forward as a nation. See more

09.01.2022 Today is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. It is a time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and all Australians, celebrate the strengths and culture of our children. It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child. Children’s Day has... been run annually since 1988 and is the initiative of SNAICC National Voice for our Children The Children's Day 2020 theme: 'We are the Elders of tomorrow, hear our voice' honours our Elders custodians of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional knowledge, passed down to children through stories and cultural practice. Our children have explored music and the meaning behind this today at the centre in all age groups. The children have also a few weeks ago begun to use Wiradjuri language to count.

07.01.2022 Engineering is all about finding out how things are built and why. It’s about finding ways to construct things better, and it’s about solving problems through the development of new technologies. And for preschoolers, engineering is about play. With new blocks purchased with our funding grants the boys have been busy creating a ferry to go on the ocean. There was loads of a conversation around the need for their friends help and where the pieces were needed to create the seats for Joey the captain and the passengers like Harrison. Joey used a hammer to ensure that the pegs were secured in the holes correctly. Great planning and amazing constructions boys.

05.01.2022 For those that have not met our cook yet this is Tegan. Quite often Tegan will be found in the rooms having meaningful discussions with the children building relationships and educating them on healthy eating. This day Tegan was discussing with Maddie and Madeline the difference between sometimes foods and all the time foods. Tegan was looking for assistance in the way of art to share with families around these conversations. These can be found in the hallway at the Centre. ...Fruit and veg can be the ultimate fast foods packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre to help you feel good, fight disease and keep your weight down. Some tips from Tegan are to take these easy steps to fit more fruit and veg into your day. *Always carry a piece of fruit or veg with you *Have a plate of cut-up fruit and vegies ready in the fridge to munch on *Add extra veg to your curries and pasta *Order your sandwich with salad *Fill half your plate with vegies or salad *Include a serve of fruit and veg with breakfast. *Choose fresh fruit over fruit juice If you would like any more amazing tips contact our centre on 69211705 and ask for Tegan and she will be able to assist with them.

02.01.2022 Circle of security is an embedded practice at our service through our key educator relationships. Providing secure attachment relationships are the important foundations for social competence and promoting effective functioning of the emotion regulation and stress response systems for children. As adults im sure we all have at least one person that we have that we turn to when we want to share an achievement or need that emotional support, these are the skills we have learnt ...which resembles the theory or secure attachements and the practice of using the circle of security. "Intimate attachments to other human beings are the hub around which a person's life revolves, not only as an infant or a toddler or a schoolchild but throughout adolescence and years of maturity as well, and on into old age. From these intimate attachments a person draws strength and enjoyment of life and, through what he contributes, gives strength and enjoyment to others. These are matters about which current science and traditional wisdom are at one." (Bowlby, J. (1980) Please call us at the centre on 69211705 or email at [email protected] if you would like some more information around the circle of security. https://youtu.be/1wpz8m0BFM8

02.01.2022 The preschool children at Goodstart Morgan St were using their skills to investigate and explore the inate detail of the bugs captured in the resin cubes. With the addition of the magnifying glasses the children are able to observe and identify the intricate detail of each bug. Providing resources for the children to capture this supports their ability to express in their own way what they see. Children are theorists in their own way and moments like these are nurturing those connections for the increasing growth of intelligence.

01.01.2022 Restrictions and loss in hours of work contribute to this generation not being able to enjoy the simple pleasures we had as children like visiting a zoo. Follow the link to explore with your family...
