10.01.2022 As we know, our beloved denim has a dark side. It can require about 7,000 litres of water to produce a pair of conventional cotton jeans, and depending on where it’s grown this number can climb much higher. This water is usually not recycled and ends up polluting rivers and water ways. Then there’s the use of chemical pesticides, fertilisers and fungicides to produce such large yields of cotton to satisfy our denim habits. Production aside, as consumers we’re also ...obsessed with washing our clothes (?), buying into trends and looking for cheap thrills. We love our denim, and if you’re anything like us, you won’t want to give it up either. Luckily for us, there are still ways to enjoy our beloved Canadian tux. - Wash less. Try wearing your denim at least ten times before washing and hang in the sun between washes. - Mend your denim (we’ve saved a highlight on this. You're welcome!) - Buy pre-loved or repurposed. - If buying new, we obviously love hemp denim. Hemp uses significantly less water than conventional cotton and requires little to no chemicals in its production, among many other benefits. - Look for recycled zippers and hardware. - Love your pieces like a good pal and once you're done donate them or re sell (the jeans we mean, keep your friend). #goodstudios See more
