22.01.2022 Please can I ask all Brisbane friends to share this post? Thanks!

21.01.2022 We are closing for Xmas today, back on Mon 6th Jan 2020. Stay safe everyone xxx

21.01.2022 Just wondering if many of our existing or would be clients know how some of these Trade Seeking service pages work? If you post a job on "Oneflare" for example, did you realise that the supplier has to pay to find the details of the lead? For a builder it's roughly $15 a go. Now that might not sound a lot, but then if you factor in the fuel, travelling and quoting time then in effect we are paying a lot of money for what is often a very "half hearted/test the water" request.... For that reason you may find the response from the sites does not give you the best tradesmen. (DISCLAIMER - I am talking only about Builders here, for smaller works such as plumbers/electricians etc it may well be a different scenario, and of course sometimes if a lead looks genuine and well thought out we will follow it up). Of course we pay for all other forms of advertising on top of this too. If you just want a ballpark figure so that you can know if it is even feasible within your budget, then please JUST CALL. We're happy to spend time just talking! Your relationship with your builder is critical so if you make time to talk to us, we will be able to understand what your REALLY want and need - and advise you on the possible solutions, before you waste time and money on plans that may then have to be redrawn etc. Oh, and BTW - if you put comments such "won't charge like a wounded bull/cost the earth etc" it's an instant No from us! It's not that we do either of those things, but it's just that your comments give us the impression you expect us to - and that doesn't make for a good working relationship. Just some thoughts from us...hope they help!

20.01.2022 Morning all. If anyone is in need of last minute Pre Xmas internal work please let me know. The weather forecast is not looking favorable for all the outdoor work we currently have scheduled.

16.01.2022 We've got an extra "man" on site today. "Ssssssid" I think he said his name was.

16.01.2022 Some before and after shots of a recent renovation project for a rental property in Wellington Point. This property hadn't been touched for 30 years and required a lot of general repair work including fascias, eaves, tiling to deck, doors rehung, wardrobe repairs, skirtings and balustrades, demolition of kitchen,(ready for kitchen company to install), roof over rear deck, new laundry (previously the blue bathroom in the pictures) and study nook from the laundry which originally located in the middle of the house..... We're pretty happy with the results and so is our client! Please call GoodWood for your renovation needs.

15.01.2022 Hi All. We are receiving lots of enquiries for decks at the moment, and just wondering your preference for materials. When you choose one, why? We have done lots of work with both types but interested to know; Do you buy on price, colour, practicality etc? Please comment below, (if composite which brand for example). Share away - the more feedback the better!

15.01.2022 Happy New Year to all our new and old customers. We are now back from holiday refreshed and raring to go! If you are thinking about reno's this year and would like to be ahead of the game please contact us for a no obligation quote. We are happy to come and see you now, even if you aren't planning anything until much later on in the year - advice given now can save you $$$'s later!

15.01.2022 A few pics from a complete house recent renovation. From "tired and dated", to "Hamptons Classic". Love their choices.... And the quote from the client who kindly provided the photos: "Thanks again for everything - as you can see from the after pics, Bob really transformed our 'fixer upper'!! Thanks, M."

15.01.2022 To all my brave friends running small businesses. I just want to salute you and let you know we are all in this together. Since mid Feb I've seen my company's ...sales drop by 10-20% progressively each week. This week our sales are now 60-70% down. It's carnage out there and I know I'm not the only one suffering. It will only take a few more weeks of this to topple businesses like mine that maybe haven't given themselves enough of a buffer and it's overwhelming and terrifying wondering what might lie ahead. I thought a few people might benefit from some practical tips that may help some of you navigate through this time. I'm not an expert and I am not even sure if I will make it through in one piece, but here are a few things that I've been doing to try and keep my head above water. Feel free to share if it helps someone you know. 1. Call your bank's hardship line. They can put a halt on your mortgage, credit card and loan repayments. Some banks may have a dedicated hotline due to Corona Virus. Call them. Now. Stop the cash going out of your account as you need that to run your business. 2. Call the ATO. If you are on a payment plan or have ATO debt they can defer it 6 months and will also stop interest accruing over this time. If by then it's not better, call them again. Call 1800 806 218 for Corona affected businesses. Hot tip with the ATO, if you don't get somewhere with the person you are speaking with, call again. You might get a more sympathetic person the next time and that will make all the difference. www.ato.gov.au/coronavirus 3. Call the National Debt Hotline. 1800 007 007. They have advisors that can give you some tips and get information on the government's incentives a few days before the public. 4. Renegotiate your rent with your landlord. I've already had rents come down 75% in response to corona virus in the last few days, but even this is not enough in some cases. I would push as hard as you can for FREE rent until things start to normalise. It's better that you are there and trading and paying nothing for a few months and survive than for you to go under and the property end up vacant. There is no harm in asking. The best way to get rent concessions from my experience is to give them actual data and figures. Show them the decrease in turnover day upon day or month to month. Compare the figures to previous years as a point of reference or attach a P&L to show that your businesses is now sustaining losses. Be clear about what you want and be persistent. Everything is always up for negotiation. I can send you an example of some of my emails if that helps you. 5. Renegotiate your supply terms. Everyone is in the same boat and your suppliers want you to stay in business. They might write off some debt, or extend the payment term out for several more months, or you can suggest a payment plan. Be pragmatic about it, pick up the phone and see what can be done so you can both weather the storm. 6. Stop every non essential payment from going out. Apply for hardship on your credit card, your car repayments, phone bills, everything. 7. Cut down on wages. Communication is key. Change your trading hours, remove the cross overs, try to be as equitable as you can with hours and keep morale as high as possible. Maybe consider rallying your team together to collectively take a hit to their hours for the good of everyone. Without our teams' support during this crisis we won't survive. 8. Shift your business model. We have to find a way to adapt our products and services to our new paradigm. Can you bring your business, product, service to the customer if they can no longer come to you? Is there one thing you can focus on during this time, even if it's not the most lucrative, just something to keep cashflow going? 9. Consider all options. Talk to your accountant, talk to a liquidation specialist, talk to a business broker. Work out your options whilst you have some still. Just choose your advisers wisely. 10. Don't panic. Phone a friend. Look after your mental health. Try get some sleep. Go for a swim or a run. Don't let fear take over your decision making. Now more than ever we need to have emotional and mental clarity. Finally, if you have a friend that runs a small business that is affected by what's going on right now, here's a few things you can do to help them out. 1. Send them encouraging messages or give them a call. It's really scary and lonely out there! It really is so important to know that others actually care. 2. If you are one of the lucky ones with a stable income then actually use their service, buy their product, recommend it to others, do what you can to keep them in business. If businesses are temporarily closed then buy gift vouchers to spend when their businesses (hopefully, with your help) reopen. We need you now more than ever. 3. If you can help with your time, skills or knowledge then offer it for free. Isn't that what friends are for? It's times like this that we need our communities around us supporting us. It's not a time to try to profit off one another but help each other however we can. I hope some of this has been helpful to someone out there. Hopefully, after all this blows over, we will all still be standing with our livelihoods and sanity intact. Til then, stay strong, shop local, support your small businesses and share the love. Johann

14.01.2022 Last minute availability.... PLEASE SHARE. Due to a client becoming unwell we have had to delay the start date on a major project and consequently have availability NOW for work. Please call or email if you need any quotes doing - no matter how large or small. No time like the present and, depending on the job, you could even be finished for Easter!

14.01.2022 Another happy customer - photo to follow! Hi Val I would like to thank Nick for doing such a lovely job on the carport.... Kind regards JD

13.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS IMPACT POSSIBILITIES: Just wanted to make everyone aware that the Coronavirus may well have an impact on future job completion times, and possibly costs, if items have to be sourced elsewhere. Whilst a lot of materials are from Australia there are some where China plays a big factor, (screws, nails - steel products etc). Suppliers here will also be short staffed due to sickness quarantine rules no doubt so production times are likely to be affected. If you have ...definite deadlines for projects our advice would be to plan well ahead and get your contracts finalised now. GoodWood intends to operate as normal through this situation but obviously some things are outside of our control. Our main priority is to ensure the safety of our staff and clients though of course. Stay Healthy everyone. (Amazon have some great employees too! )

13.01.2022 Happy Easter from all of us at GoodWood Building.

13.01.2022 Some repeat clients of ours are busy restoring their Queenslander, and they asked us to build an arch to bring it back to its former glory. We're pretty happy with the results - and so are they!

12.01.2022 https://www.vision6.com.au/v/17545/1794646213/email.html Clarification on the 2 person in your home rule - trades are ALLOWED to operate as necessary.

11.01.2022 When your clients own a beautiful old Queenslander the entertainment area has to be a special as the house. This "stand alone" area is still in progress - awaiting the outside kitchen and the glass balustrade but almost good to go!

10.01.2022 Happy 18th Birthday to our Casual Jedd! He doesn’t look quite as smart on site though.....

10.01.2022 Another happy client sent us this email today - we must be doing something right! Hi Bob and Val Thank you so much, the door is fabulous! we love it!!! J** could finally work in his office today.... Warm Regards A** L** See more

08.01.2022 Happy Easter from all at GoodWood Building & Carpentry Services

08.01.2022 It is SO nice when we receive comments like this - makes all the planning and organising worth it. Who's next?! "Hi Val and Bob, just a short note to say thanks so much for your thoughtful card and gift for our new home. We are so thrilled with the transformation, thanks to the wonderful work of Bob, Luke, Jerome, and all the others. I have often joked with Bob about all the 'character' our home possesses, as I know it often sent his spirit levels crazy. I hope Bob's next job is far more level; he deserves a rest from the 'character' of our place!! Thanks again, M & N"

07.01.2022 This is worth bearing in mind if you are looking to renovate in BCC area - never known them to do this before!

07.01.2022 Please see the message below from our Plasterboard suppliers - costs across the industry are going up unfortunately, and ultimately this will filter down to consumers. _______________________________________________________________ Dear Valued Customer,... Please find the attached price increase notification we have received from USG Boral. Since the time of receipt of this correspondence we have been working with Boral in an attempt to reduce the impact of what is being seen across the market an attempt by them (and others) to recover unprecedented cost increases in the major elements which make up plasterboard products. Our understanding is that the major part of this increase relates to the increases they have experienced in items such as paper, gas and electricity. As our attempts to reduce the amount of this increase have been unsuccessful, we are left with no choice than to pass these increases on to our customers. You will note that the increases apply to all orders placed from 1st October 2018, therefore it would be prudent to ensure that the changes are factored into any work you are quoting.

06.01.2022 Lest We Forget.

05.01.2022 No, we may not always be the cheapest quote you get, but then again you may not really want the cheapest!

05.01.2022 Loving the new shirts! Thank you JT Signs.

04.01.2022 Happy New Year to all our customers and suppliers. We appreciate your support more than you'll ever know! Just a reminder that we are closed now until 7th January, please feel free to message or email in the meantime but responses will be after the 7th. Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous 2019.

03.01.2022 If you look below at our post from 5th April you’ll see the before shots - we’re pretty impressed with the afters and the owners are too! This house is an ongoing project, next stage early 2020. Watch this space!

03.01.2022 Happy Xmas and prosperous New Year to all our clients and tradies. Without you all we wouldn't exist, so thank you! Can I ask previous clients for a favour too please? Lots of work is now advertised on Social Media (FB in particular), if you see a request for a builder/carpenter please consider recommending us. A personal recommendation goes a long way! (If you'd like to write a reference to publish on our FB or Website even better!) Please just email to me and I will post up for you. We never publish full names, first or initials only, so anonymity is guaranteed. Thanks again Bob, Val and the team.

03.01.2022 I stole this from another site, but wholeheartedly agree! "... ...A lady wanted to purchase a beautiful handmade cake and spotted a cake maker who did absolutely amazing work, but she charged a good price too. The lady thought that her price was way too high so she approached the cake maker and in quite an abrupt fashion stated "I want to buy a cake from you, but I think you charge too much!"... The Cake Maker was a little taken aback but replied "Ok, how much do you think I should charge?" The lady replied I think you should charge X much, because the flour will cost this much, and eggs this much, and fondant this much etc. I have even factored in the price of a pan." The final price the lady had calculated was a lot cheaper than the cake makers original price, but she said "Ok, deal. You will get your cake in a week". The customer is very pleased with herself and she cant resist telling all her friends what a fabulous deal she has negotiated and how smart she is, and that in a week she will have her gorgeous cake. A week later her cake arrives. She opens it and inside is flour, eggs, fondant etc. and even a pan. Angrily she contacts the Cake Maker asking How could you do this to me? I asked you for a cake and you sent me a box of flour, egg, fondant and a pan?!" The cake maker quietly replies "My dear, you got exactly what you paid for, if you think that there is something missing, then you are absolutely right and you need to pay for it. Moral of the story, when you buy a bespoke service you are not just buying just the materials and goods you are buying the, time, effort, skill, training, costs of daily running of a business, but more importantly love, passion and dedication that goes into providing a bespoke service.

03.01.2022 If we all do our bit to help each other this time next year things will look a lot better for everyone. Shop local, eat local and employ local!!

01.01.2022 Telstra Issues - Once again our land line is down, (has been for a week and still awaiting a fix). Mobiles, (Optus!), are working normally though. Apologies......

01.01.2022 Hi everyone, strange request but worth a go; we have a client wanting to extend an existing deck but the product is no longer produced. Does anyone by any chance have any unused lengths of EKODECK Silver Ash for sale? (Bunnings were the sole distributor and they have none). Looking for approx 17lengths. Thanks.
