22.01.2022 Winter and Mice Most people believe that mice and other rodents go into hibernation for the winter because the critters aren’t seen as widely during the colder months. But this is completely untrue. Mice don’t hibernate. In fact, the cold weather actually drives outdoor mice inside where they can stay warm and bunker down for winter by gathering food. Unlike other pests, mice mate and breed all year round, so there is no spring infestation explosion. And, the longer nights... of winter fit perfectly within a mouse’s preference for nighttime foraging. Temperatures Dropping = Mice Heading Indoors During summer, mice have no problem finding food outside. But, once winter settles in, it becomes increasingly harder for mice to find food outdoors, especially with the trees bare and the ground covered by snow. So, they migrate inside where they can find food in greater supply. In most cases, mice will live in the walls of a home or facility. Because of the distance between the nest and the food supply, you will usually hear sounds of scratching in the walls or muffled squeaks as the mice travel back and forth. It’s not uncommon for mice to raid pantries, tearing into dry good packaging and making a general mess of things. It is important to note that mice only need about three grams of food to survive and they drink very little water. So, there is a strong chance that you’ll never see a mouse scurrying along the floor. These are very clever creatures and they horde food so they don’t have to leave the nest frequently. The most common sign of a mice infestation is their tell-tale droppings, which resembles brown or black grains of rice.

08.01.2022 Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda, sodium bicarbonate) can remove some marks on your carpet, but only when used with an acid solution. If you use it without the acid (something like vinegar) it does little. The problem with this is that it depends on what you are trying to remove. A side effect of using this is that you end up with a white residue which can be hard to remove. While all the Google Searches talk about using this to remove stains, it can make the area worse than when you started.

05.01.2022 Red Cordial and Carpet The last few weeks, we have had a couple of clients with really bad Red Cordial stains, unfortunately this could be one of the WORST stains you will ever get in your carpets, red wine is a breeze compared to Red Cordial! If you have a red cordial you need to straight away rinse it with soda water and call a carpet cleaner straight away. If it starts to dry, its stuck there!... We do have a new product coming next week that our supplier wants us to try, a new go to product for red cordial stains and one of our clients has agreed to let us try to tackle one of her red cordial stains with it - we will share some pictures of the results (if they are favourable obviously). In saying that - kids... no red cordial on the carpet!! Easier said than done :)
