24.01.2022 Update regarding the planned service for Shaun O'Reilly. Due to the tighter restrictions, Shaun’s funeral and wake that was planned for this Thursday, 26th March 2020 have regrettably been cancelled. Due to the ever changing revised restrictions imposed by the Australian Government, only a funeral service will take place, details as follows: ... FUNERAL SERVICE: Norwood Park Crematorium 65 Sandford Street Mitchell ACT Saturday, 28th March 2020 12.00pm This further change allows us greater flexibility with number capacity, and all are welcome to attend. This advice from the AFP is current as of today. The service will also be live streamed for those who understandably can no longer attend. Further details of this will be provided in the coming days. A celebration of Shaun’s life will be planned to take place at a later date when there are no longer restrictions on social gatherings.

23.01.2022 **MEMBER UPDATE** In regards to this weekend's scheduled game against the Batemans Bay Seahawks, unfortunately, late last week, we made the difficult decision to formally forfeit the game amidst concerns over recent COVID 19 cases in the area. We were hopeful as recently as early last week that we would be able to facilitate a contest with the Seahawks but the recent emergence of new cases in the area made it impossible.... We acknowledge that, along with the bushfires earlier in the year, the Seahawks and their community have been doing it tougher than most during these trying times. We encourage anyone that is able, to support the Seahawks and the Batemans Bay community in anyway they can. We will look to support their Football and Netball club when the opportunity presents itself to do so. Lastly, this is a reminder that, whilst we are all battling to get back to some form of normality, there are many close to us that are still far worse off than what we are. Stick together, look after your friends and family and lets get through this in the best possible shape we can. Cheers, Josh Ebert GAFC President

23.01.2022 Massive weekend ahead for the Hogs! First up, congratulations goes to Team Gold from our Netball Seniors on their Grand Final this weekend. The game is at 3pm on Saturday against the Jerra Joeys White Team. Grand Finals are hard to make and even harder to win, but we know the ladies have what it takes to get the win this weekend, give 'em hell girls! From a football side, our 3rd grade side is playing their first final since 2015, which also marks the first time we have pla...yed a final as the Googong Hogs. It stands to be a massive day for the community and the club as it is the first time a Googong named team has played a final in Googong itself. Plenty of records set to tumble this weekend! The game is 1430 at Rockely Oval, against the Cootamundra Blues. Best of luck to everyone taking the court or field this weekend!

18.01.2022 Update: Rockley Oval is closed for another 2 weeks. Training will continue tonight at Town Park in Queanbeyan. We are following advice from AFL Canberra so where possible please bring your own drink bottle, sunscreen and hand sanitiser. If you are feeling under the weather at all please stay at home! For all of AFL Canberra's advice see the post below. Unfortunately the Hawk Cup for this Saturday has been cancelled. To ensure that we still get some game time into us we will b...e playing 'Intraclub Blue v Gold Round 2' this Saturday at Town Park instead. If you were available for the Hawk Cup you will be put onto a team unless you let Sam know that you cannot make it. The game will start at 11am so please arrive by 10:15 to ensure everyone has time to get strapped and warmed up. This game will follow the same advice from AFL Canberra in the post below. After the game we will be heading up to Top Pub for dinner!

The ACTAFL have informed us that season 2020 is being planned to start on the weekend of the 18/19th of July! This is not a drill people!!! If you haven't been to training yet, you now have a date for when your iso-belly will need to be gone. The season is alive and we cannot wait! Go Hogs!!!

15.01.2022 S E M I F I N A L S A big congratulations to our Cadets team, Team Navy and Team Gold for their amazing efforts in semi finals today. The cadets played the top team and made a MASSIVE improvement compared to their first game against that team. Team Navy fought amazingly hard to claw their way back up the ladder and played so well despite all that was against them. Both teams should be super proud of their final games today! Wishing Team Gold all the best for grand final day next week!

13.01.2022 Good evening All, The AFL CEO just announced that all state based and below Aussie Rules competitions will be delayed until at least the end of May. We are awaiting specific guidance from the ACTAFL as to the future of the season, but at this stage it is safe to say that given how quickly the situation with COVID-19 is changing we need to be patient and act in the best interests of the community as a whole. As it currently stands, we plan to continue training as normal but a...sk that anyone feeling under the weather stays at home. As solid information comes through, we will endeavour to make it available here.

13.01.2022 It is with sadness that we inform you that Hogs great Shaun O'Reilly passed away yesterday following a short battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time. Details of the service are still being worked through but will be communicated once they are known.

09.01.2022 After such a tough year for so many we feel proud and privileged to have participated in a charity match against the ADF Staff College supporting Legacy Australia this morning. The match was played in great spirits in trying conditions, much fun was had by all. Thanks go to Bendigo Bank, one of our fantastic sponsors, who along with the Googong Hogs donated $500 to Legacy after the game. The Hogs have a strong history with the armed forces, we hope that today's match marks the first of many in which we can show our appreciation to those who give their all in service of this great nation.

08.01.2022 To all of our members, supporters, sponsors and stakeholders. AFL Canberra have informed the clubs that the start of the season will be delayed until the 31st of May at the earliest. In accordance with advice from the AFL, we are also ceasing training, effective immediately. We need to acknowledge, that whilst this is disappointing news, we are sure that the decision was not made lightly. We must all do everything we can to limit the spread of this virus and protect the he...alth of ourselves, our friends and our families. The news on COVID-19 continues to develop daily. We will continue to communicate with AFL Canberra and will pass on any updates or changes that come through. It is our intention to recommence training as soon as possible. In the meantime, we strongly encourage all of our members to exercise where possible and safe to do so. One of the most important factors in our ability to combat this virus is being fit and healthy, so please look after yourselves over the next few weeks.

The 4th grade team made it a day to remember for the milestone men Brad Toone & Gerard Walshe with a big win to finish the season! ... Final score: Googong Hogs 16.15 - 111 Def Belconnen Magpies 7.8 - 50 The 3rd grade team are into their first finals appearance in years! But not just that as they also jump to third on the ladder to secure a home final! Final score: Googong Hogs: 10.8 - 68 Def Belconnen Magpies: 4.6 - 30 Bring on finals footy!

06.01.2022 Update: Council has told us that they will be doing work to Rockley starting next week. We are trying to find a new location for Round 2 of our Intraclub. Googong Hogs are entering a team in the Hawk Cup on 21 March 2020 at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval. All proceeds of the day are going to support the Bateman's Bay Seahawks and the South Coast community. Please let Sam know if you can make it and we will try to field a competitve squad. Our first game of the day will be at 11:20am so we will be there at 10:15am. Our second game is at 2:40pm. Lets make sure we are utilising Rockley while we have it! We are only around 6 weeks out from the start of the season. Make sure you get around all the boys to get to training.

02.01.2022 Next weekend, the Hogs will be playing a charity match against the ADF Command and Staff Course Team. The game will be played in friendly spirits and all proceeds will go towards Legacy. There will be a canteen and raffles on the day. It is a great chance to get out and enjoy the spring weather whilst getting a last look at the Stallions from the Hogs stables before we put them out to pasture over summer. Date: Saturday, 24th October Time: 1000 bounce Location: ADFA Oval... Along with one of our long-term sponsors, Bendigo Bank, the Hogs will be making a donation to Legacy on the day. We are proud to be able to support such a worthwhile cause and are supremely lucky that our sponsors feel the same way! If you are free, please head out to the game and support Legacy and the Hogs. On the bright side the Hogs were able to have a much improved year making their first final in 5 years! If you would like to celebrate the season that was please join us at the Top Pub tonight!
