15.01.2022 The number of women over 50 who are couch surfing or sleeping in their cars has almost doubled in the past few years. This is so distressing, these are in most... cases someones mum, sister, daughter and they have nowhere safe to call home. This has alerted us to another issue in Australia and that is the need for incontinence pads. So while you are thinking of donating pads and tampons please we appreciate they are much more expensive, we would be so grateful for a pack of incontinence pads. There are thousands of collection points around Australia for you to donate to please head to https://www.sharethedignity.com.au/donate-pads-tampons/ #dignitydrive #sharethedignity #makingadifference

15.01.2022 COVID-19***IMPORTANT INFO*** VULNERABLE PERSONS We would like to connect with people who are self isolating, people with disability, aged persons and people who... dont have family support locally. We are compiling a list of names of people that need to be connected with services so if you know someone within the shire in this position please contact Tahnee Bird, our Community Development Officer on 9629 1101 to add people to the list. We will then try to connect them with the most appropriate services for their situation. EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF Is available Thursdays (fortnightly) from 10am-12noon (next date 19 March 2020) for small bags. The Shire and St Vincent DePaul are working together to ensure it is well stocked. If anyone is interested in volunteering to deliver, again please contact Tahnee on the above number. GOOMALLING MEDICAL SURGERY *Current service provision remains the same *If you have cold or flu like symptoms, have travelled interstate or overseas in the last 14 days or have been in contact with someone who has travelled or is sick, please contact the surgery before entering 9629 1166 or present directly to the hospital. *All patients need to bring their own magazines, books, toys, colouring in materials etc to minimise contamination. COUNCIL ACTIONS All non-essential events for the Shire of Goomalling are postponed or cancelled. Gooma Mess Fest (postponed) ANZAC Day Ceremonies (cancelled) As a local government we are reasonably prepared for emergency situations as it is a core part of our business: *Council manages the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) which coordinate recovery and assist with management of emergencies *Shire staff who have travelled, are ill or have been in contact with people who have travelled have mandatory self isolation (14 days) *Shire gym has been disinfected and extra supplies for users to ensure hygiene maintained (ongoing) *Shire is already actively sourcing to improve stocks of sanitation products *Shire is making plans for isolating staff and services if required e.g work from home, maintaining rubbish and essential services For now our social media platform will focus on providing up to date information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and relevant local information. We as a community, the nation and worldwide are in this together. Choose LOVE, care for each other, check in on people, share if you can Why is social isolation important? Australias current infection trajectory is like that of many other western countries, we are potentially heading for a significant spike that could see our health system really stressed. We simply dont have enough testing kits, ventilators, beds and people to manage a mass influx of possible cases at once. Hong Kong has been the best example by imposing school closures and strong quarantine controls, and has had a strong community response for isolation. This just reinforces the benefits of social distancing in the fight against this virus. (refer to COVID 19 trajectory by country pictured below)
