20.01.2022 A FULL ROSTER OF PLAYERS TURNED UP! For possibly the second time ever the Goonbagz's whole team rocked up for the game against 50 Shades of Graylands - Official SRHL. Earlier in the day we had played a 10am exhibition game at the Vic. Park Collective Car Free Day street festival. With half our team the most hungover in recent memory we managed a fun game against the Stoneville Sloths on a section of road with a slope as slippery as a Tony Abbot speech. As their sweat smelt... more like beer than actual sweat after the game we sent them home for a 5 hour nap. With the team mostly well-rested we all arrived early to our 4pm game to give us enough time to spend 15 minutes putting on our skates and build up the courage to stand back up before a 5 minute all vs all warm up had us prepped for our game. Amazingly all teammates dragged themselves out for the second game of the day and lucky they did because we were versing a very good 50 Shades of Graylands team. It was a hard but fair game that was bound to be hard fought with 2 very evenly matched teams. With our more hungover team members feeling like 50 shades of yesterday we had to make our substitutions quick and often. Some afternoon goon was just the trick at the first break as the Goonbagz recorded their second victorious 2nd period in their existence. There were some long, hard shots by both teams with defense being integral to blocking the other teams advances. There were a few bruises by the end of it but what's a bit of pleasure without pain? In the end it was 50 shades of dismay for Graylands as the Booragoonbagz managed to cum out on top 7-13 victors. Big ups to new member Stephen Phillips who, although he's been with us all season this is the first photo we've got with him, and Nicole for coming back to us after recognising that if you want to 50 shades of play hockey, it's better to have a girl involved. 10/10 game. Good to have some subs.
06.01.2022 Sunday arvo saw the glorious Goonbags take on the marvelous Myaree mighty moles in what was dubbed the Slaughter at Bayswater. Jack slaughtered the concrete slab with his body after not realising his right skate was loose for the entire game, while the actual contest was a hard fought affair between two experienced team. The day was hot, the game was intense, and the $4 exports consumed pre-game were sweated out withing the first 5 minutes. MVP goes to Edward for losing the... blade off his stick in the first period after hitting the wall and then the opposition (naughty naughty). He continued to play one with just the shaft (like he does every Friday night ) and make us all look like amateurs as usual. Close second was Curtis for wearing underwear. The Goonbags scattergun defense worked a treat and restricted the oppositions scoring. Playing at a licensed venue meant that we were unable to consume our secret tactic of goon at the first break, yet we held the Moles scoreless in the second period much to everyone's surprise. The game saw almost everyone score a goal and a great storming break down the centre by Stephen. Score: 10-5. Much closer than the score suggests.everyone was cooked afterwards. Booragoonbagz march on towards the Canley (maybe just as spectators).
02.01.2022 THE BOORAGOONBAGS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!! After 7 seasons (probably, I don't know it's longer than any of us have been around) of competing in the Street Roller Hockey League, the stars have aligned and the goonbags have made it to the Canley Cup finals series. After some good recruits and all our regulars being able to play in the same season as each other at the same time, we had a fun season managing to get most of the close games our way. We only lost once and forfeited once... leaving us as the 6th placed team out of over 100. Time to fix our broken sticks and skates and sleep off any hangover ready for the first game.
